DrCullenPHD's video: • What is AI: The Somniu...
I'm six months late to the party! As usual! But I made it!
I still have several games from 2019 that I want to talk about but I also don't want to rush it, so I'm going to take my time and just talk about what I want to talk about. Since that's what is the most enjoyable for me to make (and hopefully the most enjoyable for you guys!)
music:
▶️ AI: The Somnium Files OST - Automobile Interior
▶️ AI: The Somnium Files OST - Delegation
▶️ AI: The Somnium Files OST - Appearance of Intelligence - Игры
KINO TIME
You can't say that on RUclips bro
@@sunburn8273 yeah huh
Ai or A.I. ?
This games concept seems interesting but the gameplay and look of it is a pretty big nope for me , I'm on the fence here . Should I or nah?
@@Moody.Smiruai ye as sophie and I both say in our own videos it's worth going into with an open mind because it's great
Finally, another youtuber talks about my favorite game of 2019
My favorite game of 2019 Aiba is too pure for this world
Aiba is too pure for Date.
Aiba: Date, can you look at hentai stuff with your right eye instead?
I love it when she geeks out over insects it's so adorable
WH- I literally JUST finished this game myself. Perfect timing. Anyways, if I discovered this game last year, this would've been my GOTY.
Same here how did she know :)
@TooLateToTheStory I do, actually. I've played all three games, and I've loved them entirely. Yet, despite that, AI: The Somnium Files goes beyond all expectations I've had since the Zero Escape games and turns it into one of the most amazing stories with incredible characters to the point I could cry about their backstories. (Looking at you, OTA End)
sleepy unoriginal name same here dude 😅
This game is criminally underrated! I'm glad you're covering it, really deserves the attention.
Also, this has some of the best voice acting I've ever heard (in both languages). Special mention for Greg Chun, the dude is a legend.
Probably my favorite Uchikoshi game so far, i love how well it handles the balance between seriousness and total dorkniness
Me:another boring day
Valkyrie uploads video with her beautiful voice
Me:oooooooooo yeas
played this game so much during november-december! absolute killer soundtrack and lovable characters!
Omg i literally finished playing this a few hours ago!!! ty sophie!
I wasn't keeping track of this game, so I ended up forgetting about it. Now that you've reminded me, and have talked about its greatness, i will definitely be buying it. It looks right up my alley
Hope u did....the sequel is on the way soon🎉🎉
Finished this game last year. By far, my favorite part of the game was the soundtrack and how it was so weird and out of bounds which really caught me off guard because I came in knowing nothing about the game, not even playing Uchikoshi's previous works (which I'm working through now). A great game I'd recommend to anyone who likes a good story and is willing to sit down for hours at a time.
I saw this game in the Switch bestselling charts for a while and I was wondering what it was. Thanks for the video, Sophie, I'll have to see about picking this up at some point.
Just finished it myself a couple of days ago, so I was amused by the timing your review popped up in my subscriptions! An excellent game with a compelling story, can't recommend it to people enough. Very nice spoiler free review that I can use to try and convince more people to play it!
Holy crap, you reviewed AI! Seriously, probably my favorite game of 2019. I love this game!
And yes, DrCullen’s video is amazing too :D
I played (read?) through this game in November-December with one of my friends and it legitimately became my GOTY for 2019. From the characters, the mystery, the music, the twists, this game is something special and it disappoints me so much that it didn't get nearly as much attention as it should've had. Seeing more people talk about it in the last few weeks makes me really happy though.
need to get around to this, i really liked the zero escape games, so i don't know why i haven't played it yet
That's the series I couldn't remember, zero escapes were interesting. I remember them crashing on me repeatedly in the same section when I didn't have a save for awhile so I gave up on them.
I was looking into AI though so I think I'll try it sometime later now
This was such a good VN last year and I'm glad that it's getting more coverage.
I love this game. Its incredible. I'm glad you decided to talk about it.
Yes! this masterpiece deserves more recognition!
This was my GOTY and probably one of my favorite games of all time so I'm really glad you made a video on it
A Stream and an Upload on the same day, what a time to be alive.
Played it like 2 weeks ago, loved every second!
This was my favorite game of last year. I love these characters so much
Also Invincible Rainbow Arrow song of the year.
Your intros are a work of art, love your videos :)
Finished just now and watch your review! I'm completely agreed with you on everything! This game really deserves more attention!
Okay, I am sold ^^ I played the demo today and kinda enjoyed it, which is why I was looking for a review. And your review just made me want to play it even more now.
Hey I've been wondering about this game. Awesome!
thank you so much for another wonderful video sophie :D
Yes! I loved this game. Definitely one of my 2019 favorites.
I'm actually playing AI at the moment, and I would've appreciated if it took my brain out to dinner before fucking it as hard as it has. Love the game, hidden gem that i didn't realize i needed till i played it.
I am so intrigued about this game now thanks for the review of the game I'm looking forward to playing this
Oh my God you're alive!
I appreciate you giving an honest look at the game without spoiling the whole thing.
10/10, will probably watch your review again once I finish the game ;)
Thank you for this! I didn’t even hear about this game until I saw your video and I decided to buy it and I love it!!! Thank you for the great recommendations and your great videos!
Glad you got a chance to play it. It was one of my favorite games I played last year! 💖
Ty for the review Sophie always wanted to try this game out. I'm looking forward to play it now
KOZAKI MY BOI I LOVE HIS ART STYLE SO MUCH AAARGHHH.
I think I'll play it again to see those perfect bone structures, Thanks for the Review!, great as always ;)
i am always happy to see your videos it had great quality and beautiful and amazing voice so thank you for this great content please dont stop and i hope you get well
Yay! we need as many people as possible to talk about this game
I really really missed your voice! ty for upload. I have tried 2 atelier games so far because of your 'games to help you through the holiday season' video.
Oh my God I'm halfway done this game right now, can't put it down and everything that you said in this video is 100% the truth.
You nailed it! A very good review.
Just finished this game. Beautiful. Great review.
This game is such an overlooked gem, Uchikoshi deserves the world. I'm really happy you decided to talk about it, great video!
I LOVED this game and so glad to see some more attention paid to it
Nice time to review this, with the review bombing stuff it suffered recently
Loved AI:Somnium Files! Zero Escape and Ever17 have a very special place in my heart as they were the first 'VN' series I ever read/played so I knew I was going to enjoy AI. Even then, I was worried it would be another Zero Time Dillema and not have a proper ending to the story. Thankfully, those doubts never became real thanks to the great closure that AI had.
The characters are actually amazing, even though Ota and Mizuki got on my nerves from time to time, they are so well writen and have such tight stories that by the end I cried for them. Date and Aiba are the best characters in the game, don't even try to change my mind. They are funny, they are cool, they are likable and they have awesome designs.
Sidenote: After playing these games/VNs I always get that empty feeling of finishing something and I imagine a lot of people also are left feeling like this.
If you liked AI and you want more of these crazy Sci-fi VNs then I definetely recommend you check out the Zero Escape series, Ever17, Root Double and the Science Adventure series(Chaos;Head, Steins;Gate, etc...). Both Zero Escape and Ever17 are written/supervised by Kotaro Uchikoshi, Root Double is a great VN full with twists about an incident that occurs in a nuclear research facility; and I think the popularity of Steins;Gate speaks for itself, amazing characters, amazing world building and a great approach to the time-travel subject matter.
I'm so happy you and superbutterbuns know about this game
Thanks for Publish your video again
A gift from Valhalla!!! Thanks for the heads up Valkyrie, I'm pumped to play this with my niece.
This game is amazing! I have always been a fan of the Nonary triology but man this one is on a next level. The characters really has the best conversations. The turn and twist at every endings are so mesmerizing really made me say "WHAT!" out loud. I'm really glad that I went to the left route first
I bought the collectors edition of this but have yet to play it, once I’ve watched your review maybe it may help me find the time xd
I loved this game. Bought it off the eshop in November and I knew absolutely nothing about the game. Didn't even knew it existed. Good call on my part as it became one of my favorite games from 2019 alongside FE:3H.
I am happy it's getting more coverage as of late.
this was probably my favorite game of last year
Yes, finally someone gives love to this game!
This legit looks awesome and I had no idea it existed.
Why is Ur editing so good 😥
Thanks for the review. This sounds like a perfect game for me :D
I will buy it if it's on sale or a little cheaper at least.
man i STILL need to pickup AI: The Somnium Files i watched a playthrough of it a few months ago, but i wanna play through it myself, such a dang good game
Alright, I bought this a while ago but have finally got around to playing it. I'm finished and I can say I'm glad to have had this experience. I held off on watching or reading anything about it until now and I'd recommend that other people do the same. If you like story-driven games and aren't turned off by a game with minimalistic gameplay, then you might want to give this one a try.
Nice recomendation 👍
I absolutely love this game. Wish more people would give it a try! Thanks for the video
Stop me if you've heard this one before: I finished the game literally just a few hours before you uploaded this video, and I loved every moment of the game. Thank you for spreading the word about this game!
A little reminder: you don't know what word ‘literally’ means and use it in a completely illiterate way.
Awh man I love laughing, crying, and feeling genuine confusion towards things. It's one of my favorite pass times *stares at most of the anime I watch*
The characters are so beautiful.
I loved the Zero Escape series so naturally I loved AI Somnium, though I really hope more games are made that are like those.
Shout out to Jackie Lastra, the English voice of Iris/A-Set. Crushed it.
The quality of these games has been going up significantly within the past two years. This one blew me away.
Holy fuck about DAMN time SOMEONE did a video on this game. It feels like the whole internet slept on it.
Thanks to your reviews I now own this and 3 of the atelier game. I literally heard 0 about this game and it would off completely flown under my radar if not for this video. I'm 10 hours and its a wild ride so I just wanted to show some appreciation
Aaaah I love this game! I bought it the very same day it came out, and I remember I had to spend 2 hours looking for it on several stores around the city because most of them didn't sell it for some stupid reason
Then when I found a store where they sold it the seller told me "hey, do u want the standard edition or the special edition? Because if you don't buy the special I'm definetly gonna buy it myself once my shift ends" XD
Another one for my wishlist >:)
Thank you for not butchering the Japanese names and terms, one of the many reasons I love your channel.
Saw this on sale today for 30 dollars, looks like an awesome game. Glad I came across this review to help in my decision to buy it
i come from the YongYea on the video about the guy who review bombed this game,
looks good , probably gonna buy it.
sometimes, I just rewatch your videos for that bomb intro.
God AI is an absolute masterpiece. I was turned off by his last game, Zero Time Dilemma, but this game has so much love to put into it, and money. It's so absolutely wonderful
I'll have to look into this game now.
i noticed that shade on zero time dilemma there when you were talking about zero escape :3
One of my all time favorite games. It's practically what would happen if a visual novel's presentation and writing were made specifically for my taste.
I remember hearing some people taking issue with how the dream puzzles play out, but honestly they make some sense to solve. I felt the puzzles operate on the dreamer's logic. Or at least as logical as you can get with the underlying feelings of the subconscious mind.
Soapies vids are back!
It's almost 2:30 am but I guess I'll stay up 12 mins longer :P
I'll have to check it out
I consider mywelf reasonably well informed about video games. How the hifl do you always make these kinds of cideos about games I've no idea about?!
Mega sick
Yup. I go buy it real quick
Thank you for showing making this video, I bought it when it was on sale a few weeks ago and finished it. I wish I can wipe my mind again to forget evrerything just so I can experience it once again. The characters have left an impact on me. Also, Mizuki and Aiba are best girls. (I'm sorry to A-Set but I like her character design)
I loved AI! Some really good character writing, and an interesting plot, I feel like I was expecting some deep conspiracy because of the developer's roots in the Zero Escape series, but the game actually calls you out on it at one point. It's a game which understands its audience, and was a different beast from the Zero Escape games.
I do have the sinking feeling the game was definitely carried by its writing, though. As far as puzzles go....mechanically, it could really learn from its escape room competitors. A lot of times, the steps aren't shown intuitively, and because of the time limit, you're forced to brute force through a lot of things. It's less deductive reasoning and more 'try-shit-until-it-works'. If you were looking for an escape room game...this wouldn't be on top of my list.
But yeah, as a visual novel, grade A writing. I bought the game just for that, and got exactly what I wanted. I just wish the gameplay could tie in better.
Well that's kinda the point. They are dreams. They aren't really supposed to make sense. You can get a general idea of the dream world rules and go from there, but not every puzzle should make sense
the game clearly wants you to just tinker with shit and mess around, because that is genuinely where some of the game's best gags are, so I'm honestly fine that the solution isn't always very clear
With the mechanics that the game offers you're encouraged to brute force it and see what happens, especially with the saves and the easy re-dos of puzzles; you can tinker with them and then reset as soon as possible and have the answers, usually it's easy to do both dream routes , only difficulty was with Iris' dream about shovelforge tbh where the separation wasn't as clear
Ive always been meaning to get into the Zero Escape series. Though I first gotta get through Danganronpa!
Thanks for bringing this game to my attention! Its right up my alley!
i just got done playing Judgment and Lost Judgment , this game will give me my fix until the next one !!! Love mystery games!!!
🦀🦀 When Valkyrie uploads 🦀🦀
Bless you sofia
Now we need a review of shovelforge
Should have played Falco's theme at the end. Other than that, good review!
I bought this when it came out on PS4 but bounced off of it after one of the more heartbreaking deaths. I have waaaaaay too many visual novels. This video reminded me I have 999 and VLR. Thinking about all the VNs in my backlog gives me an anxiety attack, it's in the double digits.
Weirdly enough around the same time this video went up, AI Somnium was in the news for a one man effort to review bomb it. It went from an 8.2 down to 1.9 userscore in less than a day and now it's back up at a 9.0
This game is awesome 💗💗💗
I am once again engaging with the video oh great algorithm overlords.
I think the main reason I loved this game so much was because I didn't spoil myself like I usually do. I'll try do the same when I play the sequel.
Love this game I've never been into novel games but this one caught my attention 👍
@Whitney Laylah there's actually a part 2 coming this year too 👀👍
I didn't get any crashes on Switch but there were times were there was a bit of lag when loading up the "picture in picture" bits that happen.
