- ✦ About the video
In this video I go through my first year using ue4 and ue5. I go through all the games that I made or started during that year. Previous to this I had only used unity 3d for about a year maybe. In this year I made anything from horror games, rage games, fighting games and 2d games.

Yo, I'm Jens and I'm a solo independent developer trying to make games and entertaining devlogs about how I make my games. I'm self taught in 3D modeling and game development with only some basic Java knowledge from university. I do this in my spare time as I work full time as an engineer so bare with me if my upload schedule is not as frequent as you (or I) would like it to be.

How did you learn blueprint which tutorial you followed please tell sir I am a lost soul trying to find some actually good tutorial for blueprints
@@rockeyplayz8477 Just do it
Just think of every abandoned project as a learned experience
All mine are just a stick
@@Firestormanimations everyone loves a good stick
yes, the several random blank projects were all "learning experiences" 😂😅
Take a page from dwarf fortress, losing is fun
maybe experience, but a waste of time. game development is so demanding that you don't have time to waste. Live is too short! 🤣
bro kind of went backwards.
😂😂😂😂 The fish one must have been the first game
Wow this video really hit home. I started to feel guilty about having so many unfinished projects in my unreal library, but I guess I’m not the only one :) You made great progress!
This genuinely inspires me to start using unreal engine 5 to make some really cool shit
I've learned that 90% of game development is problem solving. So if you're good at or can learn to solve issues quickly then you're already ahead of the curve!
Dude your first game you made looked solid!! You should finish that one out 😁🤘
Do you have a course you teach or one you recommend for beginners?
Really crazy ! Nice progress. I'm just struggling with Blender, never could create stuff like that 😂
I am also a game developer and have studied for over a year. You did a great job, keep working hard.
I'm most impressed with the dance animations. Did you create them by manually keyframing rig positions?
Man if you could let me know what RUclipsrs you watched to learn Unreal Engine i would appreciate it. I've been watching tutorial after tutorial for a month and feel like i am not getting anywhere at all
*Jens you so pixelated yo daddy SOLID SNAKE from **_METAL GEAR SOLID 1_*
I need you to help me make a game! LOL the game is going to be a small open world game in a small town in the USA. the first phase of the game is going to be all melee PVP brawl ! like have you ever played the game The Warriors made by Rockstar that's the type of fighting I want the game to be like. We LOL have to nail down the fighting the mechanics just like the game The Warriors. We LOL will start off with hockey sticks, baseball bats, and small knives, trash cans. After we LOL get all that finished and nail down we will start on the second phase which we LOL would start to add guns and demonic creatures to the neighborhood. I want the characters size and shapes of the game to feel and look just like the game The Warriors but updated to a modern neighborhood in the United States. We Can do this! LOL
keep making the vids, love your progress brother! merry christmas and happy new year
Thanks a lot, merry christmas and happy new year too you too!
Where's the " Santa's Journey Home " game? I bet you could have made 200,000 dollars from that if it was on Steam
This is inspiring. I actually tried UE several times installing and uninstalling since 2018. But still couldn’t make a habit of it.
please continue the horror game! need something actually scary to play w friends!
Your recreation of yourself looks great! It reminds me of those old SCP:Containment Breach d-class human models!
I’ve been getting ready to make a game and this video was very motivational! Spent 9 years developing all the concepts and now it’s time to build. Looks like dreams can come true!
Boy did that pay off 😜
👏 Man. Sounds like you are a Ninja! Guess you were a pretty good coder before you jumped into Unreal, yes?
This is inspiring me to give this a try. I have this crazy horror game idea and I wanted to see if I could make it.
You probably should sue Unreal for being Gate Keepers and not allowing you to make any money from your creations.
Damn man you made a lot of progess in game dev. I remeber watching your first video!!! Time flies man
"Game artists need not be worried at least for a while" Here we are one year later and now we have programs that can AI Generate a 3D model based on AI Art!
The progress is increasing Frighteningly fast!
is it okay or favorable to use a Mac running on M2 for basic game development in UE5?
do you need to be familiar with coding in order to make your own game? Im very curious how these modders make all these game improvements in their spare time.
lmaooo at game devs not needing to be worries for a while. the absoluted breakneck pace ai has developed over the last year and the way its only accelerating, game devs are low hanging fruit for AI. its a good day to be a dev savy with AI right now tho. definitely dont want to be a dev at a AAA studio tho
I’ve never tried to make anything so it all looks great to me 😊
On a plus ou moins déjà tous abandonnée des projets, ça peux venir du faite que quand la hype redescend et qu'on rencontre une difficulté, on cherche une alternative.
Should've called it Smashing Skulls
Damn you and I started our Unreal journey's around the same time!
I'm quite jealous you've made quite a few things, and I haven't uploaded in almost a year 😅
We should be friends.
JABOIII
Are you working on something you haven't posted? In any case I'd love to see it 😄 I could use some more friends, don't actually know any other devs haha
As an aspiring UE5 user, I have a legitimate question. Why do most of the games in this video look less than 1080p? And sometimes a little stuttery on the frame-rate? I'm not putting down your work at all, just genuinely curious why it doesn't look crystal clear like I expected from the engine.

Do I really need to learn Blender to Model all the things?
Bro made only up with Santa
i am about to start using unreal for the first time
i also wanted to make a game in unreal engine
hei mate,With your PC spec listed in your video description, is it good to handle unreal engine? especially 5? do you have some issue with that spec to run UE 5?
Just thinking about making another game myslef stresses me out cus i already know im not going to finish it
I like spagetthi too 😂❤️
😂 good video entertaining
38k views on this video.. your getting up there haha
nice tutorials man, but i wonder, why do you create your own models instead of just downloading or purchasing them ? isn't it much faster and more practical ? i reckon everything is available, and lot of stuff are free.
Thanks! Well there are a few reasons, mainly that I enjoy making models and if I make them myself I can make exactly what I want/need. However, I'm not totally against using other models, depending on the project I might purchase other assets. As you said it is more practical, especially when time is limited!
@@JensDevYou didn't finish your game because of The a.i? Was it something very difficult to do? Is it harder than programming or learning data science for example?
i'm sorry but there's not enough place in this world for 2 gamedevs named jens
Could you link any resources that helped you actually learn blueprints? I've been at it for 2 months and i don't feel i've made ANY progress, I'm very much more environment and mood.
Why arwnt you uploading new videos😢
Very soon 😅
Q
Well at least you made something. I just got back to the game i started 1.5 year ago that i lost from a windows reinstall. I started all over again and it sucks trying to create something big when you only made 1 single shitty game where the enemies chase you but not even scary. 😂 Oh yeah that was made for a one week to make a game competition but i lost the project so i can't improve on it even if i wanted. Idk maybe there is a way to turn a game back into a project. 😂
Do u prefer Unreal over Unity ?
Seems Unity is more lightweight and fits for indie games. I prefer the coding experience in C# too.
In Unreal, blueprints seem weird and cant code inside ?
Can you provide links for the tutorials you watched, I’m trying to get familiar with unreal engine as well but I don’t know where to start
I'm starting to learn unreal engine 5 and i apply to some heavy course to improve my skills
Fantastic to hear about your projects!
You should just do small map projects instead of going for a full game.
Did you do all the animating, rigging and so on in Unreal itself?
No, I do all of that in blender (or sometimes use mixamo). however, i sometimes adjust animations in unreal!
Pls reply
Is blender better or Niagara for game fx
What methods you use to make your games online ?
please I really need to know that cuz I suck at it - _ -
You sayin you made only up that didnt sparked??? Shit is crazyyyyy
I start to make film props films and hardest thing for me is water and landscape so help me. 😛
Not 4 beginners
Keep up the good work king! your uploads really motivates me even more to work on my games.. tysm!
Thanks a lot, glad to know they're motivating you! Good luck with the games!
@@JensDev Thanks! i will be looking forward for more videos from you to keep motivating me as well :))
At your new prototype do you explain how you uesed that quixel antique wood and stuff
0:55 My mango is to blow up.
i am too enjoying your vido so i subscript it lol
How Much Money You Make 😁😁😁
Stumbled onto your video whilst chilling from learning UE5 by watching tutorials about UE5 to relax XD Anyways, seems that our approaches to learning are totally different. That being said, I am a lvl/env artist so it totally makes sense. Cool video, looking forward to seeing what you come up with nest!
if u need a 3d artist let me know
Abandoned projects is becoming a curse of our life
MAKE MORE VIDEOS!!
Approximately how many hours did you work on UE that year?
I am not sure, but I spent an average of maybe 1-3 hours a day I would guess. Some days 0 and others I could do 8h. Periodically I spent a lot of time editing videos instead
bro you are so funny
You said unreal did not release your game. Why is that? Is thre any rule unreal decide to give permossoon at the end?
No you can export anything technically. Putting it on a storefront however is a whole separate issue. It sounds like he was getting a pretty nasty error when he was trying to export and he didn't find it worth the time to try and fix since the game was a hobby project for him.
I like how tou express every single of ur experiences realistically including the ‘abandoned projects’ which is also part of the progress
awesome video man, love it.
Hope you do something bigger and releasing it on Steam ✌️
Thank you i saw that you had done it
These types of videos give me motivation
Great vid
Is your games public, and if so, could you send me the link/game to me?
greetings from denmark.
The games that he has released. And which is possible to play, are linked under their specific games vidfeos. 😁
You can find what I’ve posted in the itch link in the description. But yeah, I’ve had problems with exporting the games many times so most of them arent actually posted, because Ive prioritized getting videos out 😅
Sweet video ❤
Did you make the assets for the horror game?
I made the assets for the PSX style game, the other more realistic come mainly from megascans library!
as a fellow Jens this is very motivating
i agree
Amazing content!
great job, Jens!!!
Can you list down the resources you used to learn UE5 please
Are you wondering for UE5 specifically or just unreal engine in general? For unreal I use a lot of different resources but I would say Ryan Laley has a lot of great tutorials in regards to unreal. A lot of it is for UE4 but works just as well for UE5. Good luck!
@@JensDev UE in general, thank you for the the recommendation I’ll make sure to check out Ryan Laley.
Looking good. Can’t wait to see further improvements On the *newer horror game*. Im myself have been dealing with AI just inside of unity, and I can 100% relate to the frustrations. 😂
Yeah AI is a beast of its own! Will figure it out one day hehe!
