- In this video, Jim Jasinski describes how to set up and check a pheromone trap to monitor for squash vine borer. Also covered are identification of the larvae and adult, damage to plants including entry holes, frass and severe wilting. Management of SVB using traps is also covered.
The base/main stem of the plant is not the only place the Vine Borer will lay its eggs. They will also lay eggs higher on the plants branches/leaves where it's easier for them to bore into the hollow branch and then move down to the main stem.
Flowers fruit stalk stem leaves top and bottom and tendrils any only pace I haven't found eggs is the damn roots
What insecticide i have always been led to believe the eggs hard shell is impenetrable by insecticide
when does the svb stop laying eggs, thank you .
What pesticide do you recommend for the treatment you mentioned? Many thanks.
I thought that you use Sevin, but maybe that's for cucumber beetles. BT would probably work.
@@elmerkilred159 doesnt...sorry to say...what farmers can use is evidently extreemly toxic and not available to home owners....and even for farmers hard to get a permit to buy it...what ever it is they keep.a lid on it...probably the REAL reason so home owners can not grow it
So where can we get these traps? Which foliar or systemic pesticide is safe for use on food vegetables? You omitted the most important parts of the topic. You can do this without fear of endorsing any particular vendor and giving a selection of food safe foliar/systemics to use. Otherwise, this video is practically useless.
Thanks for the heads up..pbs local state garden show did the same thing about 5 years in a row.
yeah, we know they are a problem, so what's new?
