When you break down Slipknot riffs like this and actually see what they're playing, it shouldn't make sense. But when they're played through the recordings or live shows they really come to life and hit so hard. Jim and Mick are absolute riff machines.

Exactly. What sounds like a cacophony and open chugging to me is actually fairly complicated riffs. It's just that there's so much else going on you can't really hear them until they're singled out like this.

So many people tell me when ever I listen to slipknot that they're just a bunch of guys screaming and playing stuff too fast and loud and that literally anyone could do it. I like to show them live footage of them and this video in particular. When they see Gematria they're mouths drop. Most people who say metal is garbage done play an instrument and dont understand the complexity in some of its music

Gematria (The Killing Name) is the hardest to play.

Its either that or sulfur. You have to downpick Sulfur's verse which is a pain in the ass.

I'm a bass player but holy shit man, Slipknot keeps amazing me with killer guitar riffs, makes me wanna learn guitar.
How much different is learning bass compared to guitar? (Don't know much about either).
@@generalaspergers4205 Guitarist here. I alternate between playing both. Guitar for my band and Guitar + bass for my own solo music (synthwave music mostly). Not very different from each other, you just need to understand the roles of the two instruments properly

@@generalaspergers4205 physically there is a big difference. And in tuning is different in terms of octaves. In standard tuning bass is just 4 thickest strings on guitar 1 octave lower. And the scale of bass is 10 inches longer.

Gematria is perhaps the hardest slipknot song to play on guitar
Some of my favorites come from AHIG: Gehenna (all time favorite) Vendetta, This Cold Black and a very unknown bonus track called Child of Burning Time. If you never heard them, then take a look, I'm sure you'll like it. Anyways, I'll be hoping for a Part 3

1 day i was messing around and found a riff thats half way into a song, but i play it in standard tuning, it was cool, i showed my bro he said it sounds similar but it wasnt it, so if it isnt a slipknot riff its mine now, been playing it for about 5 years
