The influence of the Beatles went way beyond music! They changed everything! And how about Ringo's drumming on this track? SUPERB!! 😎

John came into the studio with a hastily written song for Abbey road. However, the song was almost word for word a Chuck Berry cover song (Can't catch me). Paul and George thought that was too close for comfort so Paul altered the bass line, Ringo found an awesome fill and beat, and they changed the tempo to make it more a "swampy" Beatles song. Paul is harmonizing, but this is a John Lennon song.

That "guitar sound" is George's Gibson SG guitar. Their humbucking pickups are punchy and bright.

John was always a slacker when it came time to record, and usually would write songs the morning of recording. Whether it is word for word newspaper articles (Day in the Life) or circus posters, or sometimes he just starts singing an old 50s song and warp it into something original. And you are right, anyone can PLAY this song, but only the Beatles could WRITE a song like this.

If you haven't already done it, of course there is always "I Am The Walrus." They actually have a "video" of the band put together for some reason that's pretty trippy. I would recommend it (it is the studio version overlaid), but for some reason at the end the sound gets muddled up--bizarrely it somehow sounds like the vocals got separated from the instruments--and then the end gets cut off. Probably best to stick with the recording only.

It started out as John's campaign song for Timothy Leary, but it did not come to fruition in that context.

I mean... that's what she knows him from haha. But yes, Nirvana and Scream before that. To be fair, he only drummed for Nirvana for 4 years. They were an amazing KICKASS 4 years, but yeah. Don't forget Queens of the Stoneage and Probot! Lol.

You may want to listen to Brothers Johnson's take on "Come Together". It's my favourite alternate version. I particularly like their musical phrase after the lyrics "...right now, over me".

They talk about how they write songs all the time. They start by just strumming chords for practice and if something interesting (chord changes or hooks) happens accidently, they start writing rhymes in time and skipping, humming, or replacing words line by line until they craft the best words and turns of phrase for the verses. Almost always, music and words at the same time. For months, YESTERDAY was originally "Scrambled Eggs' until Paul replaced the words from his breakfast time writing.

"Scrambled eggs, oh my baby how I love your legs, oh and yes I do love scrambled eggs oh I mmm mmm scrambled eggs......" There is rarely a theme or "meaning" to the lyrics. Just cleverness and coolness in the phrases.

John wrote this song for and to support Timothy Leary's release from jail. But, thankfully John decided to keep and release it instead.
(Timothy Leary was a psychologist and known for his strong advocacy of psychedelic drugs)
