It really is sad how society says they value art but force artists to focus on making money rather than art. Artists already provide society with so much to enrich their lives by simply creating works! If anything, society and the government should pay artists for simply creating. It really is their responsibility, being the creative-less creatures that they are! We as artists should stand together, since we are being discriminated against!
from my experience, one day of storyboarding tv commercials gets you the same amount of money drawing 4 comicbook pages which would probably take 5 days to finish. but i love comics so I storyboard for a week and draw my own indie comics for free the rest of the month
omg that woman is a fucking trouper, angel, and every ohter awesome thing inexistance ever don’t really hear about those who are that hard core with their vowes too often
My suggestion: Move to a poor country. I'm based in Brazil and I can afford to be a comic book creator only because of that XD (I wouldn't say it's a good suggestion, btw) However, one thing we have to keep in mind is, artists;creators/authors are like entrepreneurs. We don't have the same condition like in a 9 to 5 job. We have to deal with that, unfortunately. And, awesome video!
Pretty depressing. I’m in my 40’s and wish I could have an art career . But I hear a lot of stories about artist barely making it , so I wonder if it’s even worth it?
I really think that this is an important video for any aspiring comic book creator.
Yeah, the message is "don't bother!".

This is a great insight, thanks for sharing. So many comics pros I know do non-comics work to pay the bills.
Where is the best pace to start in story boarding?
@@jd6473 start in the advertising industry then build a portfolio to get into movies or animation.
Thanks!

Thanks for this very kind comment.
I really hope they're doing much better today. Blessings
comic work these days is appreciated and paid better than ever before. It’s still not enough honestly.
J h Williams is such an amazing god tier artist to me it’s mind blowing that he’s also a regular financially struggling human being
Jhwilliams is godlike in the art game
They are both so humble considering their genius!

"Well off"? It's hard to make a living in comics, period! As much as I love comics, I wish I left sooner than I did.
Man, keep this up dude. This will pay off in time.
How does this 2018 video has 3 comments, and all posted in the last 24 hours

Irish Republican Army?
What's an IRA?
@@christopherdeleon2095 Individual Retirement Account. I'm an artist and I set up a couple just in case.

I can't say I'm surprised.
