I was just there today! It's rare to find these in the GTA nowadays as they've all been modernized over the past two decades. And the vanishing indicators? This is the only location I know in the GTA that has them. It's very unique.

I figured by the mid 70's most elevator drive machines would be AC powered so as not to have to use a DC generator.
I don't think they figured out variable-speed AC drives until the 80s... so until then, DC was the only realistic variable speed option
