- Something wasn't sitting just right with Rickie and how the boys were grooving to 'Danny's All-Star Joint'. (sounded good to me) And at about 1:55 she stops after saying "You guys are fucking this song up"....so she grabs her guitar and gets back into it from the top and sets 'em straight!
I regret that I only have one "Thumbs up" to give this. If she came to a venue near me, I would crawl over broken burning glass to see her.
Yes! Now that is a dedicated fan, people!!!
Yes !
Me too.
saw her a few years ago.... in Dublin Vicar street I only cried three times
I met her at a big NYC gala once quite by accident. After talking for a moment she invited me to her show that week as her guest and was super generous with her time and playful spirit after the show back stage. One of the most magical, joyful and serendipitous moments of my life. I don’t think Rickie has any idea just how good she is.
She's one of a kind. Awesome. Even after she corrected them they were still struggling with it. Almost got there by the last verse.
I saw Rikki Lee at this very venue, several years ago, and she said something similar to the band. Something like "You guys could start playing now..." It seemed they weren't keeping up. It was kinda funny and entertaining, and impressive knowing that she is a performer true to her art...wanting to always deliver a top-notch performance. The show was great, btw, as expected.
FanTAStic! Thanks for posting....I LOVE RLJ!
You're very welcome! Check out my other vid from this show, if you haven't already.
And be on the lookout for another RLJ vid coming soon! Its going to be the remaining footage I have from this show compiled into one very enjoyable, easy to watch vid. (About 25 minutes worth)
Should be posted by this week's end!
Love this! Fave Rickie Lee Jones song!!
Simply superb. Peerless RLJ.
Rickie's comment was because they weren't playing the correct changes. It sounds like it was going to follow a standard 12 bar blues, but, in fact, only one section almost follows a standard pattern. Right before the comment she was hand signaling the number system, but the guys just didn't catch it.
It's Rickie, & she has stops, & extended comping on various chords. The guys just didn't know the arrangement. That's why she stopped them & grabbed the guitar so the guys could follow the changes.
I agree, she could of stopped the guys in a less abrasive way, but, oh well... everyone survived.
I mentioned this on the 2013 live video. It's like these 2 bands never listened to the damn song before. The bass players never know where they're supposed to be.
It all worked out. A free lesson from a master.
Is that a fucking house band? Drummer and bass are clueless,
jeez what a waste of a live performance
Nothing abrasive about it.
Yes it was abrasive... Nobody likes to be disrespected in front of people onstage. Besides that, Ricki should've given out an itinerary of the song list so her pick guys would be prepared.
It's an artists responsibility to make their show the best, this was just a thrown together Jam... so in this case, she could played the guitar in the first place for the guys to follow her, rather than the way she handled it.
I so dig her!!
She’s always been as much a comedian as a musical performer. She’s always been all about the fun;)
Is that Sal Bernardi back there on bass?
She can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear! This ss proof. Rickie your are one of one.
Goddess
she says SHE is fucking it up. :) i think they were in a key that was messing her up
No, she said "you guys are fucking it up". And they were playing in E, the original key. And when she joins, it's still in E. They just couldn't get the feel and the changes, which are crazy simple.
@@bjdee1437 yeah, i can hear it now
tempo mostly... affecting vocal phrasing and breathing.. They're still pushing her in the middle of the song... it happens
Le coup du faux plantage c'est du fake préparé d'avance, Le gars est beaucoup plus fort qu'e!!e à la gratte, Ceci étant je l'adore, une voix unique (les dents en avant peut-être), une présence, un rayonnement.
This band just straight sucks during this song. If you can't get this right, you got problems. Such a simple song...essentially just a blues that's all about the feel and a minimalist fat groove. Guitarist was too busy, couldn't stop himself from "chucking" on every upbeat, which throws off the whole feel, even during the sections where only the drummer was supposed to be playing, i.e., "talk about your people in a wonderful way...". But that drummer just blows. And even with her hand signals telling the band when they were supposed to be on the V chord, they couldn't feel it. How they ever got to play with a legend like this is astonishing.
It's the drummer messing up everything!...his feel is awful!
hyper talented
this was so nice to see. thank you,

omg, I'm healed!!
She sure makes me smile bigly. Love love love to RLJ. #troydaniel921
Kbr
this wasn't out of banter this was rehearsed she just wanted to have a little bit of fun in her show.
so they arranged this to where they would play out of time and then she would basically put on her guitar during this part of the show and then continue with it
Uh, no. "Hey, I got a great idea...let's fuck up the whole feel of one of my most loved songs so we can have some playful banter." C'mon, dude.
Ouch, too bad she wasn't cooler about it. Luckily the guys laughed about it.
Yeah, I get what you're saying but I think it was more light-hearted than it appears.
She does later go on to praise them saying they're the best band she's worked with, which you can hear at the beginning of the other vid I have posted.
