Loved Outer Range, but Night Sky feels much more mysterious and intriguing. The portals give me a Myst vibe. The Caerul scenes are beautiful and alien. Cissy Spacek and JK simmons acting is brilliant and believable. As excited for season 2 as excited I am for The Boys season 3. Great work Amazon

We have a problem. A streaming tv service problem that can't understand a cult following. This show is strong. Just because they didn't have the numbers they want it, they immediately drop it. Forgetting it takes time for it to catch on. They keep pulling the rug out from under the viewers...
you are so right, so many series have been canned after the first season only to be "discovered" and really enjoyed by viewers who are then disappointed because there isnt anymore not everyone can afford every streaming service so it take time to get to know about these gems

This show has good production values, stellar performances by the entire cast, and a compelling storyline. At the end of Season 1, I was left vigorously longing for a season 2, or at least a novel I could purchase to continue the adventure, but this is not to be. There is no novel, and season 2 was cancelled only six weeks into production of season 1. From one writer to another, kudos to Mr. Holden Miller for a truly beautiful concept and story.
Just re-watched. From a marketing standpoint, I get it being canceled. It's too good. Audiences don't have the patience for this depth of plot anymore. More interested in 30 second, flash/bang Tiktok shorts.

I REALLY enjoyed Night Sky! As others have said, a big part of the enjoyment is watching the individual performances from JK Simmons and Sissy Spacek...these two are special actors! Their performances, from not only their words but their mannerisms, and how they deliver both, is outstanding. I appreciate that this is NOT an up-in-your-face, "aliens bursting from the chest", "little green men" sci-fi drama. The tension and suspense is VERY nuanced and keeps you involved. Not much blood and gore or "shock factor"...but more than enough intrigue to keep you coming back for more. I GET what's going on here but have been pleasantly surprised when I found out I had it wrong. That's far more than I can say for "Outer Range" which, IMHO, was simply too convoluted and confusing to fully enjoy. As a "seasoned" individual, I can readily relate to some lapses in attention, minor confusion and forgetting some minor details on occasion. Aging is a fact of life...doing it gracefully is an art form.
Excellent show! I have already binge-watched the entire season. It's literally a joy to watch Sissy and J.K. plying their craft. The plot is really intriguing too. This show is best enjoyed if you are a person over 45 because there is depth and nuance with character exploration. Younger folks seem to want a faster, shallower pace from the reviews I see here.
I'm 40 years old and I'm sitting here waiting impatiently for Season 2 to come on, it's so frustrating sitting here waiting for the next season I'm in love with this show
The show was more of a character driven piece or like a play with a sci-fi backdrop. Some have called it boring. I loved the acting. It kind of reminded me of old school movies where the characters are constantly wandering halls and contemplating the meaning of life. I liked the show a lot and I plan a rewatch. I'm sad that it's not going to get a second season.
When I search for "Night Sky Explained" why do I find all these videos with computerized voice reading a script? Why don't real people make these videos?
I binged the entire season over the weekend. It is GREAT! I found it to be a unique take on a sci-fi story with more depth, heart and intelligence than most if not all sci-fi shows. It is a story about relationships and love inside a thrilling sci-fi envelope IMO. The cinematography is beautiful & I plan to re-watch this on my huge projector screen to make the most of it. As others wrote, the acting is incredible. Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons are great, as usual. I loved the supporting actors, too, most of whom I've never seen before. It is not your typical fast paced, special effects focused sci-fi show, which many giving low reviews likely expected and want in a show like this. The Roger Ebert review was surprising and IMO misguided. If you only want mindless, big special effects sci-fi you will not like this show. If you want great acting & a unique story with soul and imagination, this show is for you!! Can't wait for Season 2!!
I loved Night Sky by Amazon! I’m sad I watched all of the episodes so quickly, and now it’s over for me! Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons were wonderful as always. Chai Hansen did a great job of making Jude kind, but mysterious, as well as, smart but childlike. I really enjoyed his character. The storyline has unlimited paths that it can take. It deserves a second season. I see that some reviews say that the pacing was slow, but I feel like that was intentional and coincided with Franklin and Irene’s lives. Great job, Amazon! Loved it!
This show didn't make any sense. In the beginning he said the mouse didn't survive when he put it out on the alien planet. Then portal is rarely used or known to the people that travel the portal that the old couple has chairs in there. Then if the Jude didn't know about the earth and what people did. how did he know they were in Bangkok. So many holes.
Those of us here watched the trailer for Night Sky early this morning and ended up setting aside errands, eating, and everything else to watch Season One in a day. Yes, it's that engaging. The leads are our ages and we've all loved them for decades; they are wonderful in Night Sky. I don't want to give anything away so I'll just say watch this! It's the best thing any of us old folks here have seen since long before Corona Virus fouled up TV and everything else. Kudos to the creators, actors, and everyone else involved. And shame on Ebert for saying the show is "hollow." I guess he has no soul.
Alien planet hmmm , i am thinking its probably Earth in the future or maybe even the past . Guardians are there to stop the corruption of the time line or something . Sissy and JK awesome .
I think Byron is okay. He saw the furniture. Then he saw the guy who knew Jude. At this point, Byron must have figured out that the air was breathable. The city is just a few feet away. Hopefully, Byron is okay. Unfortunately, we won't get another season.
Omg, a huge thank you to the director, producers and wonderful actors - all of them! How amazing it is to witness Spacek and Simmons in action - their acting was so natural. And the other actors were awesome, as well. This is tge type of sci- fi series I love - a tight script, no wokeness (fed up with leftists who have ruined many a good film and series)! A thoroughly good series with a balanced combination of action, a lil humor, a bunch of heart, and edge-of-the-seat thrill and chills! Please have a Season 2 and maintain the same brilliancy! Bravo, bravo!

This has so much depth, I LOVE IT, 2 episodes in. It’s classic sci-fi in that it explores theoretical/futuristic technology while presenting social issues and human nature. If you’re looking for Starship Troopers or Doom or Lovecraftian monsters, this sci-fi is not for you. If, however, you enjoy sci-fi that builds characters and plot, and does not rely on non-stop action sequences, you will enjoy immersing in this story. (As for the 1-star reviews, I can only assume they come from individuals with the emotional depth of a potato and the attention span of a squirrel on methamphetamines.)

Definitely a gem. I don't do much rating or reviews, but I'm going in for this series. Suspenseful from start to finish, and will leave you with two or more questions for every one that is answered. If you're looking for Michael Bay explosions, or some sci-fi alien action best to move along. Imo, thoroughly enjoyed the cruise control story telling used throughout the series with moments of white knuckle gripping suspense. I'll admit It kept me in for an all night binge.

Each episode seems to develop something fast, but in the end, it simply amplifies the viewer's curiosity and ends without a conclusion, like a squirrel spinning a wheel. If shows like Counterpart also with JK Simmons failed to gain popularity I wouldn't be surprised this at most ended in season 2 as well. I actually like this show but I feel the beginning was a lot better than the later episode. However I didn't like Denise's arc the entire episode, I guess it's leading up to justify her decision at the end but it just felt confusing. It felt very unnecessary, it never felt like her story was relevant, even at the end, I feel like it was too long. I was so confused at the many times there were scene of her looking upset, until she explained she was overwhelmed with the work and school. Byron had a more interesting arc getting along with Franklin because he was really annoying being so nosy at first, but I still don't feel the arc was grounded well. The best part of it really is the first few episodes leading up to Irene trying to walk out and kill herself. I mean at that point it wasn't even certain if she's going to die, but she knew she might. There was so much more mystery at the beginning than the end revealing the cult colony on that planet. I think if it focuses on that colony which I believe has a ruler and that ruler is jude's mother, I think it's going to be more action packed than the drama the earlier episode of this first season has. I hope if there's a season 2 they centre the story still around the couple and their decisions based on what was shown in the first season. I mean if they become just another main character when they go in the cult colony, it would've made all that story about their son Michael so irrelevant, which it already starting to feel like towards the end.
What? Over already?! Eight episodes...Season 1...sigh...Season 2? No word yet...will there be another season? Sissy and J.K., two actors who brought their A-Game to "Night Sky." The episodes slowly unraveled the storyline of their lives: grief, loss, longing, hope renewed, distrust, intrigue, fear, jealousy, sacrifice, and more. Sissy and J.K.'s characters' relationship with one another, though strong, is tested by a mysterious outsider, Jude, whom Sissy immediately embraces, and J.K. constantly resists his presence in their home but relents because of his wife's wishes...her happiness is his first and last priority, and anything that threatens that awakens the pit-bull within. I thoroughly enjoyed Night Sky, and I found myself feeling let down that I had already watched all of the episodes in what seemed like such a short evening. Thank you, Netflix, for this. Please disregard the one and two-star reviews...they do not reflect the majority of viewers who were rewarded by watching this unexpectedly well-acted and well-developed storyline. Too much Battle Star Galactica, perhaps.
Hubby and I LOVED this movie and loved Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons! We loved all of the characters and the intertwining storylines. Sure hope there's a season 2!!!

Well so far I can't stay with it and I'm finding this to be the case with anything written and produced after around 2019. Much of what is coming out of hollyweird and the new millenial writers is weak, maudlin, and mostly tasteless. When I see a cast, to include the traditional greats like Spacek, I have higher expectations, but I guess they'll be accepting roles for inferior works as they wish to keep working...so sad. Got a third of the way through episode 2 and I have to move on, and I guess the recent budgets don't allow for lighting either...sick of having to wait for the sun to go down or close the blinds to even see what's on the damn screen. Thank God for streaming that provides a whole host of vintage production that has actual entertainment value. I gotta add, I read the reviews and if you really think this is the best production in 60 years then you've gotta be brain dead..after that you've got to be a woke airhead to find this worth finishing much less hoping for more. Maybe I should remove 1 star but I'll at least give those to Spacek and her costar.
I think that’s the planet created for angels by God, after He decided to keep angels (apostates) separated from humans, see how they have “angelic-like” names, they even say something about the fallen, maybe the fallen are been punished by living on Earth?. Great show, the new planet aspect is sweet but, the cult/religious crap on this planet makes you think. People would still worship gods after discovering a new planet? To start over with all the violence that early man started with here. Enjoyed the show though.

Although this series was never designed to be fast paced, it should/could have been shortened to about 4 episodes.
It’s so stretched out that it’s obviously an attempt by the producers to maximize revenue.
So sad to hear that this sensitive and engaging Sci-fi series is not going to be renewed

If shows like Counterpart also with JK Simmons failed to gain popularity I wouldn't be surprised this at most ended in season 2 as well. I actually like this show but I feel the beginning was a lot better than the later episode. However I didn't like Denise's arc the entire episode, I guess it's leading up to justify her decision at the end but it just felt confusing. It felt very unnecessary, it never felt like her story was relevant, even at the end, I feel like it was too long. I was so confused at the many times there were scene of her looking upset, until she explained she was overwhelmed with the work and school.
Byron had a more interesting arc getting along with Franklin because he was really annoying being so nosy at first, but I still don't feel the arc was grounded well. The best part of it really is the first few episodes leading up to Irene trying to walk out and kill herself. I mean at that point it wasn't even certain if she's going to die, but she knew she might. There was so much more mystery at the beginning than the end revealing the cult colony on that planet.
I think if it focuses on that colony which I believe has a ruler and that ruler is jude's mother, I think it's going to be more action packed than the drama the earlier episode of this first season has. I hope if there's a season 2 they centre the story still around the couple and their decisions based on what was shown in the first season. I mean if they become just another main character when they go in the cult colony, it would've made all that story about their son Michael so irrelevant, which it already starting to feel like towards the end.
I thought the series is good, i love it. Why they leave it hanging??

I thoroughly enjoyed Night Sky, and I found myself feeling let down that I had already watched all of the episodes in what seemed like such a short evening. Thank you, Netflix, for this. Please disregard the one and two-star reviews...they do not reflect the majority of viewers who were rewarded by watching this unexpectedly well-acted and well-developed storyline. Too much Battle Star Galactica, perhaps.

Hubby and I LOVED this movie and loved Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons! We loved all of the characters and the intertwining storylines. Sure hope there's a season 2!!!
This show had so much potential with the cast it had. Unfortunately, it's a bore-fest of a bunch of fluff dragging out for 8 episodes. It's no wonder it was cancelled so quickly. It would have been better to cut out all the fluff and made it into a two hour movie!

I saw the recap then I went here to watch the ending. IMO it's not worth watchign the whole series anyway a recap and ending explained is enough for me at least for these niche contents.
i binged this show this week.. one of the few shows that didnt get me bored or mad yelling at the screen, .. aside from tiwtch , its my only reason i have twitch prime at this point.

Well so far I can't stay with it and I'm finding this to be the case with anything written and produced after around 2019. Much of what is coming out of hollyweird and the new millenial writers is weak, maudlin, and mostly tasteless. When I see a cast, to include the traditional greats like Spacek, I have higher expectations, but I guess they'll be accepting roles for inferior works as they wish to keep working...so sad. Got a third of the way through episode 2 and I have to move on, and I guess the recent budgets don't allow for lighting either...sick of having to wait for the sun to go down or close the blinds to even see what's on the damn screen. Thank God for streaming that provides a whole host of vintage production that has actual entertainment value. I gotta add, I read the reviews and if you really think this is the best production in 60 years then you've gotta be brain dead..after that you've got to be a woke airhead to find this worth finishing much less hoping for more. Maybe I should remove 1 star but I'll at least give those to Spacek and her costar.

I think that’s the planet created for angels by God, after He decided to keep angels (apostates) separated from humans, see how they have “angelic-like” names, they even say something about the fallen, maybe the fallen are been punished by living on Earth?. The guardians are there to keep the portals closed, because we all know what happened last time angels mixed with humans. If you don’t, well… Read the Bible.
Great show, the new planet aspect is sweet but, the cult/religious crap on this planet makes you think. People would still worship gods after discovering a new planet? To start over with all the violence that early man started with here. Enjoyed the show though.

If this gets a second season/series I’ll eat my hat. Nonsensical behaviour, ridiculous set pieces and clunky dialogue. Utter garbage (apart from the acting by JKS and SS who must have been laughing all the way to the bank)!
