  • The Penrose Stairs Illusion, was published in 1958, and created by Lionel Penrose , a British psychiatrist, and mathematician, and his son Sir Roger Penrose, a British mathematician, and philosopher of science.
    This impossible staircase, is a two-dimensional image of a staircase that goes in a continuous loop.
    Note how the stairs appear to ascend in one direction, and descend in the other. but no matter the direction, a person will always end up at the same level they began.
    This illusion illustrates how the brain can perceive something that appears physically possible, however is not in reality.
