Moving away from supermarkets to grow your own food is the best way.
I agree but many can't because they don't have the space or time. Made a video about that recently and we address the issue by suggesting an alternative could be to get to know a local grower or producer and try to eat what is in season
Brilliant video and envious lifestyle. Thanks for making the video and it would be great to see how Hungarians store their food and why not visit places of interest and Hungarian food growers.
Thanks for your comments! Traditionally Hungarians canned a lot of their produce. I have noticed that there is an increase in the way things have been done in the past as less reliance on supermarkets has grown. Many here use freezers but there remains the old ways including root cellars. We will look at these and adapt to our needs. At the same time we share our experience of ferment as that is growing in popularity here now

Thank you for the welcome. As with any location there will be things that are different and need understanding. The next video is a load of rubbish. Literally so because I am seeing a big reduction in the amount we now generate and impressed by the recycling options here. Plus I will also talk about how we keep warm too

Thank you for your kind words. My wife is Hungarian and we are close to one of her daughters and her family of 3 young children, plus the father is the local wildlife ranger who shares his expertise with me. They all bought me a parlinka machine for my first Christmas present but his boss makes the best Barrak (?) from his own apricots so I have an alternative use for it very soon. Bringing my knowledge and adapting it with things here continues to be very interesting even in these strange times

Hi which part of hungry is safer please, is purchasing on Facebook safe as-well please, does that mean if you purchase the house then someone from local area can over ride your money and then they get it plus what happens to your money

I get proof from UK my insurance is up to date which gives me the taj number you mentioned
Hi, you popped up in my feed, I am an expat Brit, own some property in the north-ish of Serbia (for many years though) and trying to get things going in the garden, the biggest struggle is the climate, it's so hot and dry in summer, I can't seem to grow anything annual very effectively, there's such a small window. Though you have a well which is a huge plus (I don't) I imagine many of your challenges will be the same as mine, will follow along.
Hello and thanks for your comment. Whilst we do have the well the climate is a challenge for sure. However Re-Gen has helped because we can hold onto the moisture far better because of the additional organic matter we have made. This year should see us harvest our first asparagus spears grown from seed and we do have other perennials local to here that I can't pronounce!

@@organicsimonadams Oooo, that's right! That's why you popped up I guess! I remember now, sigh, memory not what it used to be. Yes, I am trying to improve my soil, my challenge is with being on a hillside all the topsoil got washed down a long time ago but I am working on it!
I can imagine. Soil erosion by water or wind is an issue but I have found that adding the matter and keeping roots in the ground helps no end. We are surrounded by farmland here and dread it if nothing gets planted before winter otherwise just sand storms like a desert
@@organicsimonadams You could maybe do with putting up some protective hedging to reduce spray drift, I'd feel a bit uncomfortable about all the spraying that goes on in those fields and being right in the middle of it. I like how Shaun on Edible Acres does it, a thick natural hedge of hawthorn, elder, seaberry whatever, stops the deer and stuff getting in too. OK, I have to go back and watch your other videos now because I remember our conversation now but for some reason I didn't make the connection about you being so close in Hungary as this was the first time I heard your whole story about how you came to be there. And yeah, you can buy land/property pretty cheaply in Serbia too if you are willing to invest a lot in renovation, though 10 grand really is a bargain!
Hi. I'm from the Netherlands. I am also looking to buy a tanya in Hungary. I've narrowed my search down to Básc-Kiskun and Csongrád. I want to keep a few horses, so I was looking for a min of 5 Ha. I found out I cannot buy more then 1 Ha (because of rules and regulations). How did you manage to buy 10 acre?

There are many Dutch people in our area and some have land more than 1 ha but I don't know what the rules are
Just checked and to buy land over 1ha many have a certificate for some type of farming. Hope that helps you

You're welcome. We are in one of the regions you mentioned. Currently we are experiencing very high temperatures and will hit 40+ by the mid week. That plus low rainfall totals makes things tricky so I imagine you would need to provide decent shelter and water supply.
