ALLELUJAH is a warm, humorous, and deeply moving story about surviving old age. When the geriatric ward in a small Yorkshire hospital is threatened with closure, the hospital decides to fight back.
ALLELUJAH celebrates the spirit of the elderly patients whilst paying tribute to the deep humanity of the medical staff battling with limited resources and ever-growing demand.
Directed by Richard Eyre (Notes on Scandal, Iris) from a screenplay by Heidi Thomas (Call the Midwife, Cranford) based on the stage play by Alan Bennett (The Madness of King George, The Lady in The Van), ALLELUJAH features a powerhouse cast led by Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous) and newcomer Bally Gill, supported by Judi Dench (Notes on A Scandal, Iris), Derek Jacobi (I Claudius, Frasier), David Bradley (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones), Russell Tovey (The History Boys) and Julia McKenzie (Cranford, Marple).

I have always said that Jennifer Saunders, apart from being the obvious comedy genius that she is, is also capable of incredibly moving dramatic performances. This will prove that.
Those who can make us laugh can also make us cry
Same as Dawn French, pure talent.
Holy crap! What a cast!
Can't wait to see THIS!
😁😢😁😢😁
Simon I concur with your sentiment 100%♡
Australia
I’ve yet to see her perform anything other than her three stock characters. Perhaps this movie might change that…
I managed to get into the premiere of this film at the London Film Festival so let me tell you in advance this is an absolute MUST-SEE!
The entire auditorium was crying tears of both laughter and heartbreak, Alan Bennett’s writing is exquisite as always and Legends such as Judi Dench & Derek Jacobi never fail to enchant!!
Thank you Sam for your insight ♡
Australia.
Is it what it seems? A love letter to the nurses and carers who care for us everyday and never get a break and are always underappreciated?
@@freesimorgh ‘Love Letter’ wouldn’t be exactly correct (there’s quite a big plot twist which you need to see to understand what I mean), but it really does highlight how much we need healthcare workers as well as care from each and every one of us!
Thanks a ton for the info.
India.
The marigold hotel was a brilliant all star cast. Derek jacobi was brilliant in Last Tango in Halifax.
Just seen this in the cinema. One of the best most moving films I have ever seen. An incredibly moving homage to the NHS and to the care of the elderly.
As a daughter of caring nurses and also done care work admire nurses doctors and now youngest daughter qualified RGN must see this film.
BRING ON THE AMAZING AND WONDERFUL SENIOR ARTISTS WHO ARE EXTRAORDINARY AND FECKING AMAZING! Sorry, I didn't mean to shout, but these actors have paved the way to greatness. They need to be celebrated and respected, as do all senior artists around the world who teach and inspire those who are coming up through the ranks. Be decent to the crew, to your other actors and find absolute joy in what you do.
Dame Judy Dench is simply one of our best actresses, I adore her, saw her interview recently with Louis Theroux and it was just amazing.
Nurse here, having worked in long-term care/geriatrics for 9 years, and I have to say, the trailer alone brought me to tears. I can not WAIT to see this !
Bless you.
As a nurse who worked with the geriatric community and long time lover of anything cinematically British I’m absolutely chuffed to curl up with film.
That 'from first cry to last breath' line tells you why we must support our nurses
Your 'wonderful' NHS nursed killed my partner.. God help me the last place I want to end up in at the end would be an NHS establishment. Neglect and downright cruelty. Dying of starvation and thirst is a heartless thing. The sooner the NHS is overhauled or got rid of, the better.
@@chrish7975 You have suffered a terrible experience that I imagine you have taken, in full, to the authorities. I hope you are getting the justice you deserve. It is also right to express that the vast majority of nurses, doctors and carers are tireless advocates for those in need and give way more than they ever recieve.
@@chrish7975 what happened?? This is horrible. I've done care for 22 years and am now a student nurse. Back when I first started I saw some horrible care homes and not much being done about it. I have to admit though, no matter how wonderful, if there isn't enough staff, neglect is impossible to avoid, no matter how good you are at your job.
We need to pay the care workers as well. Care system is broken in the UK. Also not all nurses are great, my mother died from a bad one. We got compensation, she got a slap on the wrist, would have preferred my mam.
@@somniumisdreaming So sorry to hear of your incredibly sad experience. While I am glad it was recognised and you were compensated it does not make up for the loss.
This shows that the older generation are clever, funny, passionate and should be respected.
The cast is wonderful and Alan Bennett knows how to write in a way that is real and humorous.
Jennifer Saunders is a theatrical Dame in-waiting.
Also, anything with the incomparable
Dame Judi Dench in is always going to be brilliant.
Long live the old people!
At first glance I thought Jennifer Saunders was Pam ferris , both hugely talented 😊
This looks beautiful, it really proves why we all must support and respect both our elderly people and our healthcare staff
My mum spent her last 5 years in a care home and the staff were so kind to her this film for all those carers. Merry xmas
Such an all star cast! I'm at work now so I can't properly watch this trailer, but I will be back in several hours.
What a fantastic film and Wakefield looks fabulous too - I live opposite the Duck pond that is featured in the film - It's a beautiful part of the country and much overlooked/ overshadowed- Thank you for bringing us out of the shadow's and into the light- and what a plot twist 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏MORE !!❤
I started to cry.....and then I burst out laughing.....
Oh yes this is gonna be worth a watch ♥️♥️♥️😜😜🎉🎉🎉
Me too!
Our elders helped build what we now enjoy...we must respect and cherish them!!!
I've always been a fan of Alan Bennett's writing, and am very keen to see this. Seeing Julia McKenzie in a hospital bed reminds me a lot of my gran near the end.
"He has no interest in my penis either!"
Beyond hysterical with a stellar cast.
I now have a hernia from laughter.
Australia
It's a hell of a line.

I concur with your sentiment 100%♡
Australia.
I think the best advice is to take a box of tissues for both the crying with laughter and the heartbreak moments ❤ British cinema at its finest 🇬🇧
Lmao Jenny Saunders literally stole my mums look!!!! She's a palliative care nurse and I know she will love this
how do i get into this hospital?
would love nothing more than to spend my final days with saunders, jacobi and dame judi
I AGREE! Also with David Bradley, and visits from Russell Tovey. That would be a wonderful las chapter. 🙂
As a Nurse..This looks fantastic 👌 💟Humanistic..and funny...
Nurse here as well, LTC for 9 years. I can not wait to see this!
Can't believe it took this long, literally decades, for Jennifer Saunders to become the star of a major movie supported by legends like Jacobi and Dench. Loved and admired "French & Saunders" for 30+ years. About high time!
I do hope this reflects reality rather than a sanitized version of care. However I love AB's writing so shall hope for the best and that the research is also spot on. Been an unpaid carer for 16 years and while I wouldn't swap the emotional benefit of being with my loved one I would trade the pressure, stress and drain on personal resources caused by dire communication, dangerous care companies and some of their personnel (they are not all angels), a lack of support both emotional and financial but above all practical.
It's probably a whitewash... I think care workers in homes were treated abysmally during the lockdowns, enforced vaccination, etc. The homes were treated as dumping grounds for the elderly, shameful, I bet AB will not go near the reality. I'd rather watch last of the summer wine without compo in it, than this.
This needs to be a tv series on every week
Cripes. I cried at the trailer! And I’m known for never crying!! Not sure I dare risk the film!!
This looks wonderful! I hope I can view it in the US
Oh my heart! Lots of my favorite actors all in one film, and in a movie with a theme that is speaking loudly to me right now. I can't wait!
Amazing movie ❤ I wish I could find a nurse like that, to help me in the end.
Going to see this today with my mum for Mother’s Day worried it’s not going to be great.
Hey Allan, if you get the chance to switch I would watch another movie with your mum; I saw it yesterday and it is not really a feel good movie and there is quite a strange plot twist! It's not horrible haha, but thought I'd let you know :) Wish you a nice time!
@@paula_hi I went to see Allelujah with my mum. My mum really enjoyed it she thought it was really good. I thought it was good as well. Surprised Judi Dench was only in a couple of scenes. I think it was an alright film for a Sunday afternoon.
@@paula_hi Hmmm yeah I took my mum to see it Mother's Day too and I must say we were expecting a feel-good, uplifting film and it... isn't, but that's just my opinion
@@allanford7767 Hey I'm glad to hear that you had a good time :) and I agree with what you said about Judi Dench
@@endurance-adventures Yes I agree :D
Jennifer Saunders
Just watched….. flipping eck! I didn’t expect that!!! Phenomenal
As soon as I saw gorgeous Russell Tovey I thought “ I’m
In” 🥰
This film went from tame easygoing NHS documentary to a sharp medical whodunit in the spec of a moment and I LOVE THAT. No spoilers but the end scene had my jaw open as I didn't see that filmography coming. Excellent acting, producing and filming
That looks really good....I actually laughed out loud twice...which is probably more times than watching the last 20yrs of tv comedy.
Saw this yesterday, wonderful movie ❤
I love all these great British actors /actresses ... I will definitely see this in the theater! I recently saw something with Jennifer Saunders where she played the best friend of the main character and she was killed half way through the series. I forgot what it was called, but it was quite a dark show but really worth watching.
Merci Mary 💖.je deed het juiste.
Love Judi Dench. 💖💖💖.
Having worked in a care home this looks great !
Elders have wisdom and stories to tell!!! Deserve respect x
I agree spending a week in Cleethorpes is hell, I'd rather die 😂
I would watch Jennifer Saunders read a phone book. Love that lady.
What a great cast!!!!
Quality cast.
Looks excellent, what a cast, can't wait.
I will be for sure watching this, for those who arent familiar with Alan Bennetts work, watch The Lady in the Van ( 2015 ) and The Madness of King George ( 1994 ) amazing movies based on his work :)
Yes! And also History Boys.
Am so looking forward to seeing this!!!
Wow!!! What a cast!!!!
nice to see who Irish/ British Cream of the crop of actors in this movie I hope we see more right now and in the future of Irish/British movimoviesalive and will not ask other real actors who are not British/Irish even though most of the actors in this movies are British actors but I am sure you get the pictures
Nope. No Irish in this picture either
@@Belfastboi did you just skimmed the first part of my comment or did you read all the commit
Heartwarming
What a cast
We are going to watch this movie tonight. We want to learn surviving aging. Must be humorous...
Looks a real tear jerker
“TRAILER STARTING NOW” well I should hope so after I clicked on it.
Definitely want to watch this.
Looks wonderful!
1:22 does anyone know if I can listen to that song??
Edit: the song is called happy heart by Andy Williams
As a huge Alan Bennett fan, I was lucky enough to see this live in the West End a few years ago. Can’t wait to see the film. The cast looks amazing. 😊
I am looking forward to watching this 😊
Russell Tovey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!
This looks amazing 👏
I know it’s just a trailer but it’s weird to see Russell Tovey in so many scenes and not so much as make a noise.
Please, when will this movie be released in France ?
Nice to hear Andy Williams singing "Happy Heart" near the end of the preview.
I cant wait to see this!
I love a British film, can't wait for this one
Can’t wait to see this 🏆👍♥️
Judi Dench and David Bradley York’s Finest ❤️
Mr Bradley was fine in the Harry Potter films, but since seeing him as the father in After Life and hearing him as the voice of Geppetto in Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio, I have an even greater respect for his talent.
(BTW - The new Pinocchio is nothing like the old Disney version. Do not hesitate to see it just because you don't have kids, though frankly, I believe many kids would like & understand it. It is worth seeing for the artistry of the stop-action animation alone. It is a beautiful film in many ways & Mr Bradley's contribution only adds to the beauty.) Please see it. You will be glad you did.
@@wsc1018 Beleve me he’s a lovely bloke too, fame has not changed him one bit
So much greatness. Wish I could thank all of them for the joy they have brought to life
Looks ok to watch on the tv, makes me wonder why they make all these kinds of movies and put them in the cinema where hardly anyone watches them..non of them make money or profit
Denchie is back!!!!
Omg I know it's going to be brilliant!
Great cast. Looks amazing!
1:36 imagine Edina doing that
This movie was VERY good. I thoroughly enjoyed it
This one hits a little too close to home for me.
Oh come on. This is the whole damn film in 2 minutes
Yes! Yes! And Yes! ❤️🔥
I kept thinking I saw David Tennant
Judi Dench .🌺💖.
Looks a fantastic film British cinema at its best
Looks like my kind of film.
Saw the film today and I'm not sure the trailer is an accurate portrayal of the plotline...
I was liking this right up to the final act such a miserable downbeat ending I get this was a love letter to the NHS but villainising the nurse and closing it off with the start of the pandemic I hated the end.
Does anyone know the song between 0:50-1:20?
Happy Heary, Andy Williams.
@@abcdef-bx2zo *Heart
What's the name of the background song?
This seems fun.
That looks like a total riot. Was a little disappointed in the actual stage play of this, but fingers crossed for this amazing cast!
Does anyone know the song in the trailer?
Happy Heart, Andy Williams
I can't wait to see this..love all of them
Can anyone tell me the song that start from 1.20 ...thank you
Happy Heart, Andy Williams
Thank you abc
This is such an amazing cast.
Thank god for British films. They are such a relief after the American dross that passes for their film industry these days.
What song is at the end? Is it Tom Jones singing ?
Andy Williams happy heart
Anything with Jennifer Saunders is bound to be a hit, at least with me.
You know when people get sad that our favourite actors are turning grey? Aging like fine wine, more like.
I have a feeling this will be a smash, 🙂
There’s always a shortage of nurses.
Is that Rishi Sunak again? Feeding the homeless & now helping old people.
That Indian guy is so gorgeous! I hope he will do more films!
