I’ve been peripherally interested in this model for a few years and when I noticed they’d switched the steel to BD1N I grabbed one. I have nothing against BD1 and have a few knives with it but I really like BD1N. That made this knife irresistible for me.
Bought a cat after giving my meadowlark 2 to my brother. Very impressive at ~$40. I has become my most carried knife. Great size, low weight, good build quality.
I agree. I love the cat for its value. Its size, weight, and quality build make it one of the best knives for the money. It make a perfect EDC/Urban EDC.
Yeah, BD1 is a good steel for the price. I love BD1 for my user knives. I have always had good experiences with this steel. But everyone has their preferences. Thanks for checking out my vid.
Jack, BD1 blade steel holds up next to VG-10. I would say it takes a little more time to sharpen then 440C, but takes less time to sharpen then VG-10. It should only take 4 to 6 extra passes on your sharpener then what it takes for 440C.
yes, it should work. I sharpen in on a Smith's Pocketpal or on the Spyderco sharp maker. As long as you don't dull it up too bad, it should be easy to hone back to razor sharp. It is a great knife and by far my favorite EDC.
i just bought the cat.. couldnt flick it either way to save my life, but can flick the chicago just fine i dont get it... sent it back for another... it was kind of stiff. can you buy the bronze washers for the cat?
I actually replaced my spyderco persistence with this I needed a smaller knife this knife has better steel,an easier liner lock to use and the choil also helps sharpen the entire edge the persistence doesn't have a choil so sharpening the entire edge is harder. It is also very compact even compared to a small knife like my persistence.

My very first Spyderco was a 440C Cat -- still one of my favorites! Great review on the newer version!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked my video. I have to say that the Cat is in my top 3 favorite knives to EDC.
I'm new to knives and never new about the BD1 steel. Good Review on the Spyderco.

Great video! I love the Sypderco Cat and the cat in the background. You sound informed, hence I subscribed.
Thanks, I'm glad you know how great of a knife the Cat is.

Wish it had jimping. I thought it did. Almost perfect 2 incher.

Awesome! Yeah the Cat seems to hit a sweet spot for its size and features. It's been a hall of fame knife for me since I got it many years ago.
why did they get rid of the jimping?
the older model didn't have jimping either
i think the s30v with carbon fiber scales version had jimping, not sure tho
More dressy I think
