Thanks, Dave, for this reminder of Goldmark's Rustic Wedding. The only time I have heard this work it was in public and conducted by no less than Sir Thomas Beecham. We were seated in the choir section of the hall where the public were admitted when no choral works were programmed. I vividly recall the fascination of watching Sir Thomas conduct with grimaces and joyful shouts as well as elegant gestures when appropriate. Paradoxically it is the only one of these works not in my collection. I must remedy that. I believe Beecham made a recording. I must look out for that.😊

I love all four of these works- they are definitely 'programatic'. I probably like the Britten the best. I also like your series of the top 10 essential works for various symphonic types. One that I think would be good, especially for this time of year would be one of the best classical Christmas works. Besides the obvious ones (Nutcracker, Messiah, Chistmas Oratorio) that everyone already knows, there are plenty of other lesser known ones. One of my favorites is the Respighi Laud to the Nativity (which should be much more well known than it is), the L'enfance du Christ, Rimsky Korsakov's Christmas Eve, Saint Saens Christmas Oratorio, Vaughan Williams Hodie, et al. Also just got the new Ormandy first box of stereo recordings. I'm sure there will be at least one more for the Sony stuff, and I hope they'll go ahead and do an RCA one too. Really amazing that for a 5 year time span, there are 88 recordings- unheard of today. Can't wait to start getting into it. As always, thanks for your helpful reviews.

You will also like Appalachia and Brigg Fair by Delius. Copland‘s Appalachian Spring IMHO is an hommage to Delius (there are structural similarities). Thank you Dave for another wonderful video!
