Hey Stephen, nice to see you again! I was in your class with Otis at IU. I always admired your amazing playing and insight on reeds. Thanks for putting this video together. Glad to see that you are at Texas...congratulations!

Gerry!!!! What a thrill to hear from you; I could never forget our good times together at IU. Thanks for checking this video out; I hope it will keep helping many for years to come! Texas has been great, and I love being a part of the community here at the Butler School of Music!

Ok. I was skeptical. I had a reed that was very stuffy and played several bum notes over the range. All I had on hand was 1000 grit sandpaper and a granite countertop. I sanded the table a little. I lightly sanded the whole vamp. Then sanded the rail edges close the shoulder...a little more on one side as needed. Wow! It's totally playable now! Great video, thank you!

How long after your first time testing a reed do you wait before you begin making adjustments?

Nice guide, thanks, Stephen, but maybe You know how to adjust sax reeds to avoid casual squeaking. It is my problem with natural reeds. That happens while playing natural reeds but never plastic reeds.

Without playing the reed first? NUP

Thanks for the comment. You're correct, these adjustments are meant be done after identifying the issue(s) with a reed through play testing.
