A good song, but personally I think "Far Longer Than Forever" is the best one; unless we count the end credits song "Eternity". What's nice about this movie is that, unlike other animated musicals, I can't think of one song in this movie that was genuinely annoying. And I think we can all agree that "You Gotta Love It" from Swan Princess 2 is one of the best villain songs ever.
I have to agree and I think the best one could be Practice. Speaking of Princesses on Parade, Sir Chamberlain did a great job leading the song, even if he’s taking his duties as head footman.
17:39 - 18:34: Well, Rothbart DID say she'll be revived if he's defeated, so her being awake after the battle would imply that Rothbart being killed is not out of the question.
While I still have a soft spot for this film, there is one major issue I'm surprised no one ever brings up, like, ever, and it's regarding the song 'Far Longer Than Forever'. (Though I did notice you kind of touched up on it) It is a very nice song, but am I the only one who felt like it should have been saved for the end of the movie when both leads were supposed to realize they really do love each other? Having it come up when it did basically gave the creators an excuse not to go all the way with Odette and Derrick's character arcs. Odette seems to have completely forgotten why she left the castle in the first place and Derrick's entire arc of finding the right way to express himself to her is completely tossed out the window, and this is mostly because of the poor timing of that song. That one moment kind of ruined what could have been one of the more believable animated romances of the time. It's like they wanted to go against old animated romance cliches, but figured that just bringing it up was enough and then after that, they could devolve back to the old tropes that Disney decided to stop doing around the time.
This is one of my favorite movies because first time i saw this movie i was 4 years old and after that, one day in kindergarten something magical happen, this was a wind with leaf dancing around me and this feel same way like the swan princesse and Pocahontas

Honestly, I think this film had some pretty neat concepts here and there even though in the end they either ended up being poorly finished. For example, I like the idea of turning the whole love by attraction alone element on its head. However, neither of our leads has much in the way of personality, or at least not enough for either of them to be in love with who they are past their looks. They don't exhibit enough character growth over the course of the film to warrant any change. In other words, the question of what else there is to the two of them beyond appearances is still left unanswered. I must admit that I do like the idea of the frog thinking he is a human prince and falls for the idea himself instead of the other way around, only it turns out there is no truth to this notion either. Yet again, it's a great set-up but has no payoff. What would've made it better or at least funnier to my mind would be if the frog is able to convince a woman to kiss him, only for him to discover that he was lead to believe a lie all along. Yes, it is shown to be fake, but the problem is he still thinks it's true by the end, thereby ruining the potential for a different result than what plays out. I guess I just think it would be cool to see one fairy tale have its magical nature remain while another tale within it is proven to be falsehood. In a way it would also depict the rarity of situations and events like what happened to Odette and Derrick, thereby showing how important and special those moments are even in an otherwise standard fairy tale setting. Either way, this film is basically well-executed beginnings with little to no satisfying resolutions. As I understand it, a lot of people like this movie, and while I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, I just can't give it full marks despite its merits. This is a total side-bar, but this film was (from what I've heard) The legendary actor Jack Pallance's last movie role before his passing. He was an excellent actor mostly known for his work in westerns as well as playing villains in general, but I can honestly say I still didn't expect him to be in an animated children's fairy tale film. I think he deserved to go out on a higher note and that his character in this had the potential to really stand out if they had given him more to work with. It may not have been the most fitting send-off for one of the greats, but it's still a neat tid-bit of trivia to know that he was there, even if most people (particularly those who saw this as children and likely didn't know or care all that much about who was in what movie) didn't recognize him at the time. Either way though, he is missed.
As much as I like this movie, I do have to agree on the good points you've made--it's kind of why I believe, if put in the right hands, it might benefit from being rebooted or having its story expanded a bit more. Maybe have the pair getting to better know each other through secret visits to the lake (maybe they decide to try and work together to break the spell, without resorting to bending to Rothbart's demands or going on true love being the solution by guessing, if Derek feels guilty about how their argument is how Odette is stuck in this situation to begin with and doesn't want to make things worse for her and her kingdom), which leads to them falling in love each other beyond first sight as they bond on a different level than they had during the visits as children (where both of them are more open and willing to talk to one another now). Maybe add in that Rothbart is also gunning for Derek's kingdom as well, possibly in setting up both Odette and Derek's Kingdoms against one another when he took her and killed her father (and keeping it close to the vest as an ace in the hole if Odette continues to be stubborn long enough, with the claim that he can bring the Feud to a stop if he marries her and makes him king). Not much, but it would at least compliment the well-written beginnings better.

It worked with Eustice (in the film version of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader) 3) If he wants to marry her legally, why not hypnotize her to say yes? 4) Why does he reveal the only way to break the spell when Derek's still about? 5) If Odette's human at night, what's stopping her from sneaking up to Rothbart and knocking him out? 6) Isn't there a law against marrying banished people? 7) Why does Rothbart do during the day? 8) Why doesn't he use someone Odette cares for as leverage to get her to marry him? 9) Why doesn't he disguise himself as the King? 10) Why does he need the kingdom when he practically has a resort of his own? 11) Why kill Odette if he still needs her to get his hands on the kingdom legally?
This movie's choice of a classic story kinda ended up biting it in the ass. Because of the changes they've made to it and their desire to make the 'insta-love' dig at fairytales and Disney movies of the time. But they kept all the other story-beats exactly, and didn't think too much about how their major change and dig would changen this particular story. Swan Lake, more than any other fairytale relies heavily on 'love at first sight'. Zigfried(which is the name of the prince. I guess they changed him to Derek for the English-speaking audience. It's much easier to pronounce) only met Odette once on that lake. So, when Rothbart sent Odille in her stead, it made sense he made the mistake he did. Odille gave him her real name, which is pretty similar to Odette, so Zigfried easily assumed it was the name given to him...and that he must've missheard it. Here tho, Derek knew Odette's name too well...so there could be no change of names. But that then makes no sense for the curse....because Derek says Odette's name. Yes, it's not her standing by him, but that's also not that woman's real name. So, he actually did what he was supposed to to beat the curse. But it's still at work. I think that it would be the best if Odette went to the ball, but Rothbar followed her and cast one last spell on her, by making it so, Derek would have to fight and kill him to save her.

I remember that you appeared in a story of Logan's Adventures based on this movie. Seriously, the part where Mirage from Aladdin: TAS sang Yzma's song (Snuff Out the Light) is my favorite.
The Swan Princess makes no sense. For starters, Derek is older than Odette, and yet, they look more or less the same age throughout childhood and especially adulthood. Not to mention the animal sidekicks talk underwater while breaking Odette out of Rothbart's dungeon. But I will admit the "No Fear" musical number was a fun sequence.
And yet it still has less sequels than Land Before Time. It's amazing to think both those films still have sequels being made even now. (I give LBT some credit for having not gone the CGI route yet, but that's about it, and even then, I wouldn't be surprised if they made a fifteenth instalment in that style)
The first two are tolerable but not great as the first one. They should stop doing sequels and do a live action re adaptation but include new characters like the new character like what they have with Cadenza in live action Beauty and the Beast and call him Maestro Oliver, depict Lord Rogers as a butler but still retain his position as counselor (like with Lumiere being a footman while still being a maitre d’ in the BATB remake), make Rothbart a chancellor before becoming a warlock (since he is referred to as Sir in several sources), include Odette’s mother, include Odile, backstory of Derek’s dad and Odette’s mom, and have the film explicitly set in UK.
And now...Everything wrong with Rothbart's plans: 1) If Odette did agree, what's to stop her from changing her mind once the spell's broken? 2) If Odette's a swan by day, what's to stop her from flying away and communicating by writing in the dirt? 3) If Rothbart wants to marry her legally, why not hypnotize her to say yes? 4) Rothbart tells her the only way to break the spell is make a vow of everlasting love. Why? Seems counterproductive to the plan. 5) If Odette's human by night, what's to stop her from sneaking up behind Rothbart and knocking the moron out? 6) Is there no law about marrying banished people? 7) Rothbart disappears in the day doing nothing...so why doesn't he do SOMETHING? 8) Why doesn't Rothbart use someone Odette cares about as a hostage to get her to marry him? 9) If he could change anyone into anything, why doesn't he do that by making himself look like the king or make someone else look like Odette? 10) Derek saying that he loves Odette even though an imposter is taking her place means the real Odette dies so how will this solve Rothbart's plan of taking over her father's kingdom? 11) Why does Rothbart even NEED King William's kingdom when he's practically living in a resort?
10:15: Buddy, Diva of Musical Hell already addressed the elephant in room about "Villains with Childish Attitudes" 5 years before your video: ruclips.net/video/qpm-jOML-oo/видео.html the point she's trying to make is that it's not the concept that's bad, it's how you use it; and what she said about how Laird doesn't do anything horrific beyond endangering the Heroes, can be applied to Rothbart, thereby making your point still stand. Just thought I would clarify.
7:42 As a kid, I always thought it was super random that Rogers gave Derek a score out of 52, as opposed to something more normal like 10 or 5. But rewatching as an adult, I realise that's literally the joke - that you expect him to say 52 out of 100, but instead Derek got full marks.

The swan princess has way too many sequels!
The first two are nice.
Exactly
13:29: Oh yeah, that's good out of context material.
7:36 PHYSICS, PHYSICS, PHYSICS!!!
And now...Everything wrong with Rothbart's plans:
1) If Odette did agree, what's to stop her from changing her mind once the spell's broken?
How did this slip under my radar?
Can you review South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut
Can you review the Pebble and the Penguin?
10:12 I just realise, they forgot to paint his scalp red as well.
Can you do Dino King?
10:15: Buddy, Diva of Musical Hell already addressed the elephant in room about "Villains with Childish Attitudes" 5 years before your video: ruclips.net/video/qpm-jOML-oo/видео.html
the point she's trying to make is that it's not the concept that's bad, it's how you use it; and what she said about how Laird doesn't do anything horrific beyond endangering the Heroes, can be applied to Rothbart, thereby making your point still stand.
My take away is they've done the catch and fire practice 52 times and Derrick has yet to fail or miss
Another movie you were a part of in Logan's stories.
That makes me laugh 7:00
you know I really getting tired of leaving comments if you not reviewing the jungle book 2 or review Goosebumps movie
Just hope you won't have to do any of the squeals?
Don't you mean sequels? LOL
@@Hewylewis I lost after track at 8
Bit of advice if you tackle the sequels: BRACE YOURSELF.
At least the media hunter did better of the swan princess than the nostalgia critic
Where Your alpha and omega review
Media Hunter Reviews: I warning you!
This is the worst Animated Movie Franchise off all Time. In many Sequels the Prince and the Princess aren't even the Major Characters.
Well...to be fair it was relatively decent for the first two sequels...but then came the Swan Princess Christmas..
Eh, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Norm of the North, Open Season, and Alpha and Omega are also franchises consisting of multiple films.
The butler was and his name is Lord Rogers.
@@matthewhedrichjr.5445 What?
