Just discovered this young lady by accident....Folks, this is what music is all about! I have listened to (and played) rock off and on for 45 years. Luna Lee rocks!!!!!
It's now almost 4 years since this Gayageum performance of Mark Knopfler's Dire Straits masterpiece was posted by Luna. But I stumbled upon it for the first time today. For those who think RUclips is the work of the Devil, Luna's performance is uplifting proof that unbelievable talent exists everywhere. I hope she achieves all of her aspirations in life.
So incredibly talented! This instrument has longer stringers and more flexibility to bend and release it to really "mold" the tone. She does it so skillfully and gracefully -- it's a joy to hear it. I'd say this sounds more melodious than a guitar or any other musical instrument cover, simply because the Gayageum offers such fine control over the tone. The bends and vibratos are exquisite! Also notice she is also occasionally re-adjusting the pegs which keep moving, in order to keep the instrument in tune.
Asians do (time to time) better instrumentals from western world's music than we can, and we (in the rest of western world) cannot adopt and develope their music.
I just finished watching your version of Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child. You are so incredibly bold in your playing. Mark Knopfler and Jimi Hendrix are such unbelievably hard musicians to follow because of the smoothness and power in their playing. Way too many people have failed to breathe life into their songs when covering them. A great musician makes the difficult seem easy and effortless. You have achieved that. Thank you so much for bringing this to the world!
Jimi hendrix is the most overrated musician of all time. Mark Knopfler is a superior guitar player and light years away as a composer. And many other are aswell. Even during hendrix's time there were much better guitar players.
@Outcast...."How many good songs did Hendrix made?"...As far as you are concerned probably none, as far as I am concerned quite a few. You are conflating style with talent...I don't listen to a lot of Les Paul's tunes, simply because I'm not into his style of music, on the other hand I'm not going to say that he has no talent simply because I don't dig his style. Can you understand what i am saying?
WOW!!! being a guitar player myself for 20 years, you have just blown my mind seeing this. that is AMAZING!! BRAVO to you! BRAVO, ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!! and NEVER let anyone tell you otherwise Luna! Bravo ; )
what the fuck is this!!! just 4 minutes ago I didn't even know an instrument like this even existed and now I am having ear-gasm. this is absolute GOLD!! how can someone have this much talent ????
Bruce, this is a Korean instrument. It's better known (in the west) in its Japanese variant, the Koto. There is also a similar instrument in China: the Guzhen. Yes, this is very well played and a really creative interpretation.
Wow, this is the perfect song for this instrument, which is built for really bending those strings to slide the notes. She's got hundreds of covers but this is the best one in my opinion. She does her own improvisation at the end, a different melody but seriously capturing Mark Knopfler's style. If anyone knows him personally, get this to him.
Thank you for an extraordinary experience, Sultans of swing on a thousand year old instrument. This just shows how close everything really is to each other, and that her strings vibrate with the strings everything is made of.
