Almost every audition video I've watched is people playing along to Primus tunes, nothing more. This guy took it to a new level showing more of his diverse technique. So far he's got my vote to take over the throne for the band.
He also seems to be the only one that actually lives in SOCAL. What are all these Midwest drummers going to do? Move halfway across the country? Fly in every time they have to do rehearsals or write original songs? And don't even get me started on the international contestants...
@ I don’t know but I imagine there are some who would happily move across the world to play with Primus. Job relocation 🤘🏼. But who knows! Thanks for watching.
So far I only watched two videos for the Primus audition. After watching this video I have come to the conclusion that I would not have to waste anymore time watching these video auditions. Awesome performance!
Great work, Greg! PRIMUS... This is your guy! An outstanding, well-versed drummer, multi-instrumental talent, mad visual effects skills, industry awareness, and seems like an all-around great guy who exudes positivity!
This man is perfect for Primus. I have had the distinct pleasure of watching Mr Russell perform several times. It is magical. The hard work that has been invested shines like fire and to play in Primus would absolutely require extra special talents. I firmly believe that Greg Russell would be that person. Les and Larry, this could very well be your guy...Give him a shot. Best of luck Greg, Ralph Espalin
Wow! I’ve watched a few of the Primus Audition videos and I’m quite impressed by all of them, but YOU certainly have my vote! Very impressive drumming and personally. (Les, if you’re watching.) 😊
I do not envy the members and staff of Primus choosing their new pick, I have seen so many amazing talented drummers out there, Greg Russell has a very special advantage with his experience in the overall industry. Les and Larry, ,,, this is your drummer, let's go!!!🤘
Dude, I was there at Woodstock in 94. Front row for Primus. The whole crowd was screaming "PRIMUS SUCKS! PRIMUS SUCKS!!". Every time I see that old video I can see my fat head sticking out of the crowd. Drove all the way from North Carolina with no tickets. Made it through the roadblocks by telling the cops who stopped us and asked us for tickets that the people 3 cars ahead of us had our tickets and they let us by. We parked and camped in the Jamesway (maybe it was "Safeway") grocery store parking lot right outside the festival. I can still hear Candlebox, who was playing when we parked our car and got out after a spontaneous 900-mile road trip. To get in we bought a flashlight and a 50lbs Hemp weed bag (Empty of course) from a guy for 25 bucks and he let us through the fence in his backyard to where the tents were. Had the best time. Metallica (I still say that wasn't Kirk). 9IN. Greenday, Allman Brothers, RHCP, Aerosmith, Mud, weed, beer, and titties...covered in mud...and beer...and more titties. One of my best memories growing up.
@@richardnoggin697 great story! That was a once in a lifetime experience. I was there with 3 friends and we didn’t have any tents. We were happy idiots. We had a tarp that we strung up between two other tents and made a lean-to that kept us dry throughout the rainy night. We smoked joints all cuddled up and watched little rivers flow around us. Blueberry pancakes from heaven the next morning. The music was just beyond amazing. Some mind altering substances mixed with all the bands you mentioned, snd the general good vibes in the midst of the mud…can only truly be experienced by having been there.

I hope that Primus at least sees your work and that you are given the opportunity to discuss possible collaboration. Be it Primus, future musical projects or just each of you having yet more talented , good people join your sphere (which one can never have too many).
Now this is the shit!! He took that Primus song and made the drumming his own. I loved the well-placed half-time. I can hear funk in his playing which gives me a serious boner. His hitting is perfect. Not a tapper also not a Travis Barker that beats the hell out of the drums. He is solid with a cool style and has a great look with that rock hair. Killer playing. You could honestly play in a better band than Primus....they are cool but their music doesn't have a lot of replay value for me. I find them actually overrated. The writing is just...I dunno....mediocre? Sailing The Seas of Cheese was quite good. A band that I find underrated but infinitely more interesting and way deeper: Cardiacs. Good luck brother.
Hey Mick - this morning I was thinking that playing with a bass player like Les kind of makes me think of endless beats. It would be so great to get into a room together ;-) Thanks for checking out the video.
You are a very good drummer. The only issue is that you are still too over the top on the original music you’ve played. Tone it down and eventually you can become one of the greats.
