There are 3 generations of teams in TF2. We play as the third team, TFC is second, and the first was formed back in 1890. Unlike our Pyro who's a mystery, we know a fair bit about the other two. The TFC Pyro is a sadistic woman named Betty. And the first Pyro was Abraham Lincoln, who helped popularize the Rocket Jump

fun fact! pyro is referred to as both he and she in his meet the team video, and she's also referred to with they in their mann co. weapons box description. although h is mostly referred to using he/him, there's other notes of them being referred to by all, technically including some of the domination lines from spy, engie, sniper, ect

“If he even is a man” is probably referencing meet the Pyro, as he performs these inhuman acts on people that even cause his own team to fear him.
i mean, burning people alive was banned from the rules of warfare for a reason. It’s a monstrous and horrible way to die. Pyro holds no regret or pity for his victims. He truly is inhuman.

Alexander Pronoun really revolutionized the english language, before words such as I, Me, You, Them, He, Her, etc. didn't even exist, we would just point at things.

Soldier doesn't imply he knew that Pyro was a woman. It's a joke. He says "There's only only two things that attract bears. Honey and menstruating women."
He then points at Pyro and says "My God, I knew it. Somehow I always knew it... Pyro!" then he shoves him away, "Stop blocking the door!" revealing that inside Amleia Earharts plane there was honey, ending with "Amelia Earharts famous sweet tooth has doomed us all."
It was a gag, so soldier didn't actually know. He always knew about Amelia's sweet tooth.
Really goes to show that context is an important tool.

The part where Soldier was talking about "always knowing it" actually refers to him "always knowing the plane they were next to was filled with honey." Pyro's gender is still unknown, but there have been a lot of theories about Pyro being a woman because of stuff like "I fear no man... but that thing... it scares me" (in reference to Pyro), so the tf2 comics team threw in some jokes to make us question it more (hence the Soldier line, which once again is confirmed later that Soldier wasn't talking about Pyro, and also the tfc Pyro being female)
Pyro is not a woman. Pyro is not a man and the word man doesnt always mean male. This argument must end. Developers obviously doesnt want anyone to know its gender. If you ask a developer he is going to say he is designed in a genderless way. The tfc pyro being female doesnt have anything to do with tf2 pyro. It changes almost nothing about the fact that we dont know his gender. We will never know it. Gaben wont come out and say its a woman. Worthless argument, i wish people nowadays were able to think deeper about things, critical thinking is dead. Everybody just expects some resource or theory to give them the truth but nobody is looking carefully to see that he is designed genderless on purpose, if you just look at small words like 'he' or 'man' you won't get anywhere and it will confuse yourself a lot.
