your voice is beautiful! Im studying at Wellington performing arts centre in New Zealand, and i love how you have done this song. You will go far girl! XX Natasha!
Thank you so much! This is such a fun show - we all had a really great time with it and with this number in particular! I hope your production goes well!! :o)
wow, well you guys did an impressive job on this number. I hope my school does this well with the song. we're doing jekyll hyde this year. Small Town School in Central New York.
This is the best live version I've seen! Thanks for posting! I'm singing this for my Musical Theatre class, and no one else in the live videos I've watched has used a mixed belt for the high notes....which is not screaming.
Does Linda Eder, one of the greatest vocalists of all time, have competition? Maybe not. But this is still a very powerful version, I like the subtle changes in the line readings. I also love how strongly you bring it home.
Thanks for the comment. Just a quick note though - this number in the show is a number at the club...so it would look choreographed...because it is a show within a show. Lucy is a performer (among other things) at the Red rat. But still - thanks for your input! I had a great time playing her and would love to do so again! Kathryn
Thank you! I think it is more the digital camera's microphone than it is me...at least I hope so. He was reeeeally close to the band and, well, it is a small digital camera that just happens to also do video. Also, during much of the show my mic was off (I am loud... :o)
@dgmartino2 Haha! Well thank you very much! I have taken some time off from performing recently - my husband is in the Navy and we have moved around a lot. And I am now expecting our first child. But as soon as I get back to it, I will post some more videos! Thank you again!
@SadisticGlamour All of Lucy's songs were specifically written FOR Linda Eder, so of course she's going to sound better. Plus, she's a trained professional. I highly enjoyed Ms. Engelke's performance. This was a fun video to watch. Yes, a few of the moves were too modern, but everyone interprets the show differently.
And now I'm going to reply!! :) I'm not exactly sure what you mean by the comment on dancing in even numbers, but as I was not the choreographer, I can't really respond. As far as my costume goes, I was wearing a handmade, historically accurate corset, a can-can skirt, and vintage can-can/granny boots. I did quite a lot of research and did the best that I could with the budget that we were given. But you are certainly entitled to your opinion! :)
@SadisticGlamour While I appreciate that this is your opinion, I must disagree with a few things. 1 - I most certainly was not screaming. I wouldn't even know how to go about screaming with vibrato.... 2. I did not choreograph this. 3. I have no idea what kind of rap videos you watch, but I have never seen one that looks like this.... 3. What exactly do we know about how Victorian whores danced, as we do not have an video of it....
This comment was from boy19oc - it was edited to remove hurtful comments about the appearance of one of the people in the video. If anyone wants to read the unedited, let me know! umm...this is a horrible performance...first of all..."dancing" in even numbers??...lucy in a tango dress and cowboy boots....historically accurate?....and lucy should do some more research on her part...this is bad...
I hear no screaming; simply a fantastic belt.
This is honestly the best and most fun version I've seen, honestly just astounding.
Wow! Very good voice!!! I also like the 'feeling' you put in it! Congratulations

No, this was a small community theatre production in a small town in Eastern North Carolina. :)

had the honor of seeing Eder do this part on tour. Ignore the negs, you did fine (and it's not an easy piece.)

You are a dynamic performer - great job! I wish you'd had better dancers behind you, because you were a much higher caliber than they were.

My high school did this and it was MUCH more raunchy then this xD
