They did use her in order to produce an heir to the throne. The Queen refused to fly the flag over the palace at half mask which is customary upon someones death until public pressure forced her.
Truthfully, Dianna used her title to better and help others; she out shined them and the resentment was palpable.

The divorce of C & D was a first in modern times where the prince of Wales/ the crown prince and his future queen divorced and because her life ended so suddenly, and only one year after their divorce, there were no protocols in place and so palace officials initially attempted to use protocols that were not sufficiently respectful to the memory of a future kingmother as well as the most loved and admired woman on earth.
It was PM Tony Blair and Charles who candidly told the queen that, to some great degree tradition had to be shelved in order to accommodate/acknowledge the massive grief the loss of Diana caused all of us.
In fairness, the queen was an "old dog" even back then but when the enormity of the heartbreak of all was laid out before her, the queen quickly adapted and shifted and attempted to show compassion for her countrymen as well as the citizens of every country.
Funerals plans for members of the royal family are planned out a decade or more in advance, but who would have thought to make such arrangements for a 36 yr old who was as healthy, vibrant and alive as she? She was pretty and knew how to play up her looks. But as far as common interests and rapport go, there wasn't much; if anything. And Charles was old enough to know that, and know better.
I think Diane was stunning but she was not suited to him she was very needy because of her parents divorce and insecure she wanted and needed something from him that he could and would not give her, emotional security he was unable for lots of reasons. Diane deserved better.
The QM chose Diana for him, she helped her and Charles in the run-up to the wedding and shortly after.
When Diana wasn't conforming to the "shut up and say nothing" but had told of how upset she was at his continued relationship with Camilla, the QM turned on Diana.
She made life very difficult for Diana, stood in her way etc.
Charles would have done anything for his granny, including marrying the wrong person, chosen for him because she fitted the criteria for a royal bride for the future monarch at the time.
She didn't stand a chance.

She had so many opportunities and resources to learn what she was getting herself into. Maybe she just liked all the sparkle
I can look at eyes of people and feel loads of things. You know something her eyes shows so much purity. I have rarely seen such purity and innocence now in a lady of her age or maybe younger than her. She had a gentle soul. I love her and lady Diana's eyes are so motherly. I don't have anything to say to her ex-husband.
