Absolutely superb recorder playing. I wish I had the words to describe how good this is. As a very amateur recorder player I am in awe at the musical skills of this wonderful musician - Hanneke van Proosdij.
A beautiful performance of a charming tune on a recorder with a gorgeous sweet sound :) I love playing J. van Eyck's pieces - they always start off so deceptively simple, and then get ever more challenging with every variation. Admittedly, I get tangled fingers with a few!
Some of the fingerings may look similar to the soprano, but when you cover all the holes you get a G instead of a C. These instruments are made by hand, one at a time, and you can check Peter van der Poel's website for prices.
Many years ago I taught myself the recorder. Of course I was never this talented. But I gave it up because it was hard to find music. This is a beautiful recording.
Amazing - the two voices come out perfectly - impossible on the recorder of course, but the illusion is created magically. Nice renaissance recorder too with wider bore.
I remember when I was a child, my recorder teacher gave me this piece for homework, from the Fluyten-Lusthof. I was 12-13 years old if I remember. I didn't know its (adult-only) lyrics... I stuck on the last variation, I could only play it slower than this video... But I succeeded with the piece...
Very well played! I'd like to suggest an alternative (free) translation of the song's original lyrics, that expresses the intended ambiguity more clearly: "What shall we do late at night? Let's go to bed. Going to bed is a good idea - Young lady, will you come along? Let's go to bed."
What shall we do tonight? We want to go to sleep. Sleep is well done. Beautiful maiden, will you go with us? We want to go to sleep. Hanneke plays as if they would themselves come from the time of the composer to us.
Many years when we moved to England, people asked my wife which instrument I played, she answered he plays the recorder, where up they said: yes, but what is he's real instrument.
Counterpoint and arpeggios and that kind of thing work well on the recorder and because of that very advanced recorder playing could be as wide in scope as that of a polyphonic instrument.
Roefie Marseille Woerden

Great variety of articulation and phrasing but always lyrical - not just virtuosic, a really beautiful performance! Still, you gotta admit that guy set some awfully dumb songs!
this must be the most beautiful interpretation of this piece I have heard. What a talented player!
Unbelievable, Hanneke! So flawless and yet so innately musical. The last variation was really over the top. I am in awe. Thank you!!!!

the song is delightful and you are an amazing musician. thank you...!
while listening first notes I said to myself "hey, its nice and simple melody, I can play it !" , and later ... ehm, just surrended.
My thoughts exactly.

Great piece - great play - Nice warm sound. It looks so easy but I have a feeling it is not easy to do at all.
Many thanks for this upload !
such a musical interpretation of this beautiful and playful piece. there are several interpretations I like and admire, but this is one of the best.

At the start, I was going "I could learn that". Then it was " No way in ...". She's great.

Hanneke plays as if they would themselves come from the time of the composer to us.
It is often called a "G alto" nowadays.
excellent
Renaissance recorder? Sounds so pretty. (The musician too of course.)
Prachtig🌷sluit me geheel aan bij het commentaar van de vorige🌿

Have heard that one before! Thankfully not recently....
Buen nivel

Ik herinner me nog dat je in Ede met de Duits-Nederlandse blokfluitdagen speelde, of was het in Munster?
Wat leuk, Quintijn, ja dat was lang geleden. Ik geloof dat het Delft en Woerden was.
Is this recorder a Ganassi model? Thank you. Very, very, very good!
Yes, made by Peter van der Poel.
@@VoicesofMusic Grazie!
I would love to learn how to play with my own black alto recorder
You can!
Maple :)
This composer was a blind musician and also played the organ in churches.
What is that recorder called? Is that an Alto?
that is not common. How much does that cost and does it have the same fingering with that of a soprano?
