I had to do the same thing with my adoptive family. Had to disown them! I only had to talk to them again when my Mom died 9 years ago. My Aunt kept fighting to stay in my life because she thought she was a godsend to me and then threatened me with violence, and said that I needed professional help for defending myself against her. She has also tried to gain control of me from my Mom my whole life and when she died, she tried even harder to control everything in my life. She and the rest of my family are lucky I never sued or pressed charges against them!
