Very nice job and great playing 😁. I’ve built the 5F1 amp, but I need to install it in a cabinet .. And it’s too cold outdoors to build a cabinet in my garage right now 😬. Thanks for posting !
Rock on!That is awesome man. I love this amp it is just every old rock song right out of the gate no pedals needed. I see it has been a while since I checked my messages so I hope you have it together and all went well and you are Rocking Out currently.
Thank you so much Rod. Its my #1 amp at this point. I like modelling, vsts and multi effects its very versatile and has been extremely useful with recording but... I gotta love a hot smelly tube amp for that special tone. Its just a thing of arcane outdated beauty that I don't think will ever be fully phased out. Thanks again.
Where did you get the circuit board? It looks like screws or something like the did back in the day. lol. Did you hand make it? I have no experience building anything, but I'm going to give doing this a shot some day after I learn electronics a bit more. I dont want to start out with a kit, but I definitely would love to get my hands on that point to point board of yours!!
Thank you so much for watching and taking time to comment john. that is a turret board. you can make them but I bought this one from ebay. good luck and dont get yourself shocked if you keep 1 hand in your pocket at all times when touching it then it cant send the pulse through your hearts as easy jumping to the other arm to get to ground... your pocket is ungrounded. no bs its a real and good tip. It was good to me when I got knocked. Hahaha
Man I feel ya paying twice for everything, that teaches you to research well and buy good components, great channel! subbed. sweet sounding amp man! next project add another gain stage?
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment SP&C. Yes, I tried to cheap out on the components and ended up paying more in the end but it did turn out quite well and I still have the extra tubes and the transformer to use in other projects and experiments. I may build a higher gain amp at some point, I do think thought that I would be more likely to lower the feedback resistance to get a higher gain rather than add another tube but who knows. I have since built a little 2 tube 4 stage preamp from a cheap ebay board that really does put the sauce on it. Doing a Solid State Fet boost or overdrive on the front end like a Dumble may also be a thing to try in the future. Thanks again for The kind words and your time much appreciated.
Thank you Ardi. Funny thing is... She is actually the one that taught me how to solder. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and leave such a kind and light hearted comment. Stuff like this just makes my day better.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave a kind comment James. I actually just used the classic tone 5 watt 8 ohm only output transformer. I can say Im pretty much glad I did too. That old Akai Alnico 10 is VERY efficient. It may not be big stage volume but I wont turn it up past 3/4 and sit directly in front of it. I never thought 5 watts could shake the house but it does. I tend to use something like a boost pedal or klon clone in front most of the time for just playing at a decent volume in the house but still getting breakup. I bet with a vintage 30 speaker and the 15 watt upgrade transformer you would be plenty loud for a small stage or club. My brother lived next door about 100 yards from my living room and he always knew when i had it cranked up over 1/2. LOL
Hey man, do you prefer the ceramic or alnico with the 5f1? Also with the bypass resistor , did you use a capacitor or a resistor ? I’m currently using a register but I might switch it out for a 2-5 uf bypass cap to make it a little beefier/hotter
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment Josh. I havent tried it with a ceramic speaker yet but I like the alnico 10" pretty well its very bassy and breaks up well but being as efficient as it is when its turned up high enough to distort nicely its Very loud. Would not recommend for an apartment or small room. I used 25uf bypass cap on both tubes and a 1.5k resistor on my preamp and 470 ohm on the power tube. If your looking for grunt I would try changing the negative feedback resistor to a lower value. If you want fullout cranked Marshall style distortion you can remove it but the amp will be super loud. Thanks again for the feedback.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment Russell. I agree and the fact that is is a super efficient vintage alnico equals quite a high amount of volume from such low wattage. To get it into the sweet spot gain-wise in a small room is borderline painful and I'm sure the neighbors all enjoy it... LOL Thanks again.
Thank you so much Josh. I try to keep it light and be myself as this stuff can be boring if its just facts and diagrams. Thanks again I'm glad you dig my unorthodox personality. Not everyone gets its Those who do are the reason I do this stuff. Whole lot of really cool and funny guys in the comment section on this channel. Welcome Brother.
sup, I’m gonna build sum thangs like this, but I’m afraid of gettin electrocuted, I found a battery powered version of fender champ that has 3 1T4 valves and the pushpull output audio on 2 6V6GT. I’ve got a 300V boost, maybe I should just use that on the ones where a single-ended 12AX7 premamp
Thank you for taking the time to watch Andy. I'm glad you understand the dangers associated with tube equipment.Ive never messed with any 1t4 valve or audions but a while back I did some experiments and got a 12at7 to produce gain at 9 volts though that wouldn't drive a transformer and speaker it would make a good preamp. Anyway I think you should be able to build a 2 tube champ with a 300v boost/buck converter just fine. Just be careful I took about 450 volts from the exposed end of a cap a while back and it was a "shocking experience" to say the least more scary than painful but luckily I had one hand in my pocket and not on ground so I'm still alive.
MojoTone.com has 5f1 kits as well as buildyourownclone.com stewmac.com prob has the nicest ones and most expensive though, all these places even offer covered cabs with nice speakers all those kits will be better quality than what I built but as you seen if you cheap out and put the parts together from random ebay vendors like i did you risk mismatched parts or bad parts and may have to order more like what happened to me + you dont get instructions or customer support.
@@JCTrucks410 I bought the mojotone parts kit and chassis, then the transformers. I built the finger jointed cab myself, used TAD tubes, and a 4ohm Jensen 8" speaker with the green frame. I also changed a few components for some better ones and have a toggle switch for 4ohm or 8ohm. I bought some better ceramic military spec tube sockets, gold plated off ebay, from China but they are actually Russian. Really good sockets compared the the rattling ones that came with the parts kit. The tiny cab has mojotone's real tweed, not the tolex plastic tweed. Two brush on coats with Bullseye Shellac Amber Tint gave it a light brown colour. I should have used one coat of tinted shellac and a top coat of clear spray Bullseye Shellac. It's not quite as amber as I would like but it looks good. I have a Fender logo, a clone, of the really old FENDER from 1953 due in from Russia. I like the old brown logo better than the backwards F on the later Champs. This sounds incredible but even better with a digital reverb pedal and a vibrato pedal. Even at 5 watts, it can be very loud...mine edges over into distortion at about 6 or 7. Nyms
Thank you for watching and taking the time to write such a kind comment Andrew. I do love the tone this amp got in the end myself it is a little dark with certain guitars/pickups but, it seems the combo of the hand select JJ tubes, the upgraded transformer and the old alnico 10" Akai speaker really did a special thing.
It definately sounds good. I've been looking at the 57 fender champ but don't want to spend a grand and have no reverb. Just discovered what a 5e3 is too. I don't gig just jam with buddies and at home. I played a tweed blues jr the other day I'm thinking about getting until I can build a nicer amp like you have yourself there. LOL yeah I guess I didn't have enough respect for the jigsaw im terrified of a table-saw and a chainsaw but you wouldn't want to watch me use a band-saw... pretty reckless and Ive actually been cut by a band saw... He said, "I know you didn't just do what I think you did"? I said: oh yeah! I looked and I had cut through my fingernail into the top of my right middle finger about 1/2 inch deep, Luckily it made that bang sound on the fingernail and got knocked back out of the saw and I still have a finger, It healed perfectly no scar or mark at all now. Good times Hahaha
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment Frodo. You are correct, I wish I would have gotten it on camera but I wasn't going to do it again on purpose... it was a spectacle and the speaker was popping like a pot of kettle corn. Id never seen anything like that.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave this awesome comment. But, no it was unintentional. Just a Muscle Shoals area accent toned down a bit for YT.
