As a FS trailbuilder that goes nationwide and maintains and builds new trails (with equipment) I am firm advocate of the term maintainable and not sustainable trails. I have been trying to change that mind set in the agency for the last 5 years. Sustainable is such a catch phrase and people use it to just sound good in paperwork. Glad to see some sick trails in my home state popping up in small coastal towns. Fun ride along, thanks guys.

Hi! Speaking from experience as a longtime southwestern Oregonian, it's really interesting living and riding in areas that are periodically logged. What happens is that as the older stands of trees get logged, the areas with short trees grow up so that there's always a mix of tall, medium, and short trees (or closed-canopy and open-air parts of the mountain, if you will). So there won't be a time when all the forests are gone around the Whiskey Run trails, but there will be a time when the part at 1:30 and the part at 4:55 will "swap places," if you will, so that the trail shown at 4:55 will be the tall stand of trees with dense canopy cover, and the part at 1:30 will be the part where you go, "OK, now we can see."

They log it and send the prime trees to China at the log yard in north bend. By freight ship. Trees are planted to close together so they use the bike trails to access the. Timber with a feller buncher and log it by machine with free labor trail building, but as long as we can ride we will keep building.
Keeping on the whisky theme " American Outlaw" would be a good trail segment name for the new trails being built there.
I've been watching you for a while and I'm so glad you visited my local trails! They are amazing, and loving that we're getting trails in my town of Coquille nearby.

Wow! Bandon has really changed since I was there last...I went to a prep school (Millard Prep School) for the Air Force Academy there back in 1978. There was so little there then we used to call it "A-Bandon". :-) Looks like great trails!
This area is about 90 minute drive but been there half dozen times in the past year. Super fun and challenging for wide range of skill levels and perfect in the summer when the inland valleys are hot and dry...or on fire. I noted that you said the area was slated to be logged at some point. We have a local trail network near Lorane OR on BLM land and a couple of units with existing trails have been logged over the past couple of years. I was pleasantly surprised and encouraging that the logging crews, as part of the clean up process, take time to clear the trails so they are rideable soon after the equipment is gone and it's safe. Hope that holds true for the Coos County Forest as well.

One of prettiest areas in our country IMO. Looks super fun and flowy but I dont remember seeing anything that warrants a black rating. Certainly no bone crushing rock gardens ala moab.
Yo you need to try the Insta 360 camera on some downhill shots. Also some overhead drone shots will keep your viewers happy.

Thats a great trail system. Plus they allow e bikes. Which makes it so useful for all types of riders. If you can make your trail system anything like Whiskey Run you will be in luck.

I rode there last year in July. Great place to beat the heat inland. Now how DID you get that camera to work so well on Gnome Wrecker? It was like midnite dark in there!
It went together easily in less than an hour. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.

Trail riding is the best fun. I wear a chest plate though, when riding ungroomed trails, if not canvas Carhartt jacket, to keep from getting speared or lanced.
In that mess, a spine guard would save you if you ended up getting across a tree with a gravity assist. That's a lotta trees. :-)

I also wear safety glasses if I don't have shades on. I almost got poked in the eye once and it was TERRIBLE. So, cheap 10 pack of safety glasses are in the backseat lol
Whiskey run is because they found black gold on the beach and used the alcohol in the whiskey to separate the gold from the black greasy sand, lots of history.

I reall like watching your videos a lot. Lately though I have been hearing the F-bomb alot. I am a 55-year old Christian women that is now disabled follow 21 surgeries. I get to enjoy the trails thru your lenses. I love the crunch of the tires and your breathing, it makes it more real but if it continues, I will either mute you and try to pretend I’m on a bike and if the feeling is gone I will change to a different you tuber. Meant with kindness.
