That was the season (8) AT was first introduced on the DWTS. And I had never ever heard about that style of Tango before (yeah I've been under a rock, lol). And that was the dance that made me fall in love with the art that is the Argentine Tango.
This is from the first season of DWTS I ever watched, and I will never forget this dance as long as I live. I watched it, then immediatedly rewatched it several times in a row, because the technical skill of their dancing was so good. It was definitely the technical skill of their dancing that got to me. Definitely just that.
One of the best ATs on any of these come dancing shows. But a 9 the first time round as he acted very little. The time he danced it in the final was amazing!!
So true! I miss these kinds of dances, where it's actually ballroom. I think the show's vision shifted when exec producer Conrad Green moved and Wade Robson took over. You can see how there's a lot more SYTYCD ballroom dancers coming on board, more lights sizzle and radio-mainstream music.
That was the best AT on DWTS, true to real ballroom dancing. Was the song Assassin's Tango? I would like to see someone this season do an AT to Soviet Connection.
Damn @ 1:23 gets me every time when he just gets ready, takes in a deep breath and picks her up into the lift. But this season is the reason I stopped watching DWTS. I don't even remember who won the trophy but in my opinion the voting was more of a popularity contest instead of a dance contest. Gilles was not only the most improved dancer but also the best dancer that season. He was the runner up because he wasn't well known. If people voted on the best amateur ballroom dancer Gilles should have won it. But alas no, that mirror ball trophy was for the most popular and well known contestant whether or not they were a good dancer. This was his best dance/performance I think. I love the song too "Assassin's Tango" from the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
Yes---Gilles should have won that season although I was rooting for Shawn Johnson!---Shawn showed great improvement the last 3 weeks but Gilles was really good the whole season!!
@@RobertJohnson-ci5wx DWTS Season 8 finale was the closest finale in the show's history. Only less than 1 percent separated the amount of votes cast for the winner and runner-up.
This has to be one of the most (if not the most/best/epic/legendary) memorable performance on DWTS!! Pure perfection!!
Agree 100%!!!
This performance never get old!! I remember watching it live 12 years ago. I still get chills from watching it. 🥰
Best dance ever
Always and forever the best AT ever on DWTS.

They ATE! The ending was ALLLLLL that!

This is what a true argentine tango should be...and Gilles is smoking hot dancing....Oh, yes!!
Still the best dance in DWTS history
I never thought I could use the word "superb" in my vocabulary. But this is SUPERB, lol.
Still the best AT ever on DWTS. I never tire of watching it. Hot, hot, HOT!!!
My favourite argentine tango on dwts
It’s 2024 and this is STILL hot af 🥰🤌🏽😍
It really was and is, I watch it all the time!! lol
Gilles was incredible with both Cheryl and Peta. He deserved a MBT. He was robbed.
WOW!! Talk about a seductive dance. These two blew me away!
Hot! Hot! Hot! This video is one of my all time faves on DWTS.
I wonder if any of the spouses of Cheryl's partners ever get nervous. She is built for steam!!!!!!!

Bravo !!
Back when they actually danced on the show and the judges gave tens for actual dancing. Now it's all gimmicks and excessive use of the troupe dancers.
+Matthew Torres I really don't like the use of the troupe dancers. Sometimes it is confusing where to watch.

And when DWTS hired dancers for their talent in dancing, teaching and choreographing Latin ballroom instead of Emmy-nominated contemporary dancers.

one of the best Argentine Tangos ever. mwah
God damn, that footwork
This is the dance that got me into this show.
That was EPIC. Now I'm torn between this and Meryl and Val for favorite AT. Damn you, Cheryl and Gilles!!!!!!!!!!
+lf1234 Also, Val and Elizabeth Berkley had an awesome Argentine Tango.

who can dislike a video like this??? I think it was mistake..
I'll never understand why Gilles Marini wasn't cast in a latin dancing movie after this. Dirty Tango Kings or something
S-s-s-s-s-s-s-mOkin´!!!!!!!!!!
Bravo! Soooo hot... Lucky Cheryl!

Both r amazing but I think juan pablo were sharper
juan pablo, but i love gilles too and they were both robbed
needed to express more through face and his shoulder leaned over her a couple times in awkward fashion. He sorted it out for the final; though
I wish they would release all seasons in HD. Im tired of watching these muddy clips recorded on VHS.
