Exactly. For me my reading journey started with a Kindle where I could just tap tap tap and read books in a speed I never thought I could and in a font size I never thought I needed for focusing.
I read Atonement 5 years ago and thought it was really well written and clever. Solar has some nice writing but just like you say in your review I kept waiting for something to happen. Adlous’s death was maybe the most eventful thing to happen. But otherwise it’s not great. I agree with your review!
I really need to reread Atonement. I have so little memory of the book I can't even comment, but I really do need to give some of his other books a try. Solar was just an unfortunate one for me to pick up.
I agree with you on the reading reviews on Goodreads thing before starting a book. Although I'm guilty of doing that way too often, lol. I should really let that site stop giving me preconceived notions! Funny, I see a lot of Ian McEwan on my library displays and had a passing interest in his books. But I'll take your word for it on this one!
I have heard really good things about people loving his books, but I hated this and it had such universally negative reviews. It might just be a fluke, but I'm eventually going to get around to reading a few more of his books. I just had the misfortune of randomly picking this particular one off the shelf haha.
Reading books in school are the worst. Somehow school makes books and reading really depressing and not fun.
I'm pretty sure I just skipped two thirds of the books I was assigned in school lol~

Good review, thanks:) Watch it in 2023 after the finishing my reading of "Solar". Agree with your point of view about it
Thank you for watching!

The plot is regarded as sacrosanct. In this book, the plot itself is the protagonist, literature without constraints.
Interesting perspective.
For some reason I've never read his books. However, I have seen just about every movie based on books he's written.
I've only ever read/watched Atonement before now, but I'm really looking forward to trying some of his other books!
