Christ almighty, that voting procedure was crazy. 18 countries, 3 in each group. Basically they had to go through the whole list of countries 6 times to collect all the votes. Nor did it help that the votes weren't cast in ascending order, but in the order of performance. That killed a lot of the excitement....
News Note 1. Sandie Jones (1951 - 2019). Became The First Singer To Sing Ireland's Song in The Irish Language. She Was also The First Irish Woman Eurovision Singer to Die. Sandie Jones was an accomplished Singer and sang this song very well indeed.
Ceol an Ghrá (The Music of Love) may not have gone down well with the juries - and Ireland has never tried an Irish-language song since - but Sandie not only topped the charts at home with a slower (3'31") version of this song, she came home and cut an English version of the Dutch entry - scoring a second No. 1 single out of Eurovision 1972. There can't be too many who can claim such a feat in their national charts in any year before or since.

@@terrybaker8156 I don't know that people are "hating" on Malta, I know I'm not hating. I don't care one bit about the countries, all I care about is the music. Didn't care for the song from Malta this spesific year.
Luxembourg often couldn't get any nationals to write or perform their songs so relied on singers from other countries as here with Vicky Leandros and a year later with Anne-Marie David - not much point really. And in 1961 they should have been disqualified as the ruling hadn't been changed then and the singer and the songwriter were both French. They only got away with as the Allisons who came second for the UK were a couple of nice blokes and didn't want to make a fuss when this was pointed out to them.
