    off topic question. what does it mean when linode is a website hit? is it a crawler or bot and is it scraping data or something? just curious, not sure what some of the IPs are that appear in the hits of a site.

    Is the public IP address a static IP address? Is there an extra charge for the static IP address?
    My domain name is pointed to a public IP address which is DHCP. My router port forwards that DHCP public address to a Debian computer on my local area network. My Internet provider will not provide me with a static public address with a residential Internet account. Perhaps using a Linode server could solve that static public IP address problem.

    I have a newbie question. My ISP's modem/router blocks port 22. They will not give me access to the settings to fix this and told me to contact the modem manufacturer, Smart RG. They do not support the end user, only the ISP. Do you know of a way to get around this besides purchasing my own modem? Can I just search for a different port to use for SSH and configure that port instead? Are there any good reasons not to use another open port?
    Thanks for the great videos!

    • @AkamaiDeveloper
      @AkamaiDeveloper  3 года назад +3

      You can change your Linode's SSH port to something else by editing your /etc/ssh/sshd_config via Web LISH and then restarting the service. Find the line that says "Port 22", remove the # from the beginning of the line (if it exists), and change the number to something else before saving and restarting.

      How can I schedule launch of a “server/node/instance” e.g. Ubuntu to run 20min daily and then shutdown?
      Maybe using scripting in a management console is possible or some other tool with api request. Shutdown is can do with cron, but how to launch/boot a preconfigured server by specific time/date e.g. Mondays 10am UTC.
