- Welcome to Day 5 of our Alaskan Disney Cruise! Join my family and I on our 7-Night Alaskan Cruise from Vancouver on the Disney Wonder! Thank you so much for watching!
You join us on Friday, September 16, 2022, for a day in Juneau, Alaska! We ate at Cabanas for breakfast, and got ready for our excursion in Juneau! We booked the Whale Watching and Wildlife Quest port adventure, which we were extremely excited about. We met in the Walt Disney Theatre, and then boarded a bus to Auke Bay. It was a 30 minute drive during which we saw many bald eagles, their nests, and Mendenhall Glacier in the distance. Our driver, who went by the name of Bobcat, was incredibly entertaining, intelligent, and funny. He regaled us with many facts and stories about Juneau. He was amazing.
After arriving at the Allen Marine Tours loading dock in Auke Bay, we boarded our double-decker whale watching boat, the St. Yakov. We set out on a 45 minute drive to our whale watching location in the waters of Stephen's Passage. We spent the next 1 hour and 20 minutes seeing 27 whales, a buoy full of sea lions, and many bald eagles. We were immensely lucky to have had perfectly sunny and warm weather! We were also very lucky to have seen the most whales on that boat during that whale watching season! We set the record with 27 whales, wohoo! Whales were literally everywhere surrounding us. I had to decide which group of whales to film and take pictures of! What a thrilling predicament to be in! It was an awesome experience that I would highly, HIGHLY recommend!
After absolutely destroying the whale watching game, we headed back to the dock in Auke Bay, which took another 45 minutes. We boarded the same bus back to our ship, which took about 28 minutes. The total time on our whale watching port adventure, from checking in at the Walt Disney Theatre to getting back on board the Disney Wonder, was 4 hours and 45 minutes.
We got some snacks on Deck 9 and took in the views of sunny Juneau. We saw Frozen, A Musical Spectacular in the Walt Disney Theatre and had dinner at Animator's Palate. A server told us that this was the first day of their whole Alaska cruising season where it had been sunny in Juneau! We were so lucky!
After dinner, we met Goofy in his Alaskan outfit. I went to the Buena Vista Theatre, because I had yet to see the inside, and watched about 10 minutes of Thor: Love and Thunder. We enjoyed the Piano Party in Azure, and then headed up to Deck 10 to try and see a glimpse of the Northern Lights. After giving it our best shot at 1 hour and 15 minutes, we headed back to our cozy stateroom for the night.
Next up, a day in Ketchikan, Alaska!

Guys, this day was incredible. We still talk about our whale watching adventure and how everything was just perfect and glorious. If you ever have the opportunity to whale watch in Juneau, you have to!
When on the boat for whale watching...did the boat turn to the side so ppl could all stand to see. Last time we went whale watching in iceland they had the boat foward so everyone had to crowd around the front and there was not enough space for everyone. (If that makes sense)
Looking at dcl alaska cruise next year. Thanks for any tips!
Hi! So the boat had a lot of standing space for everyone to see! The first level was enclosed and had windows all around it. The second level was outside and had a lot of standing space at the back and on both sides of the boat. There was no standing space at the very front where to driver was, but there was plenty of space to see all the whales from all the angles. The boat driver did an incredible job getting us as close as possible to all the whales. Hope that helps! Would highly recommend this excursion!
