It's a legitimate argument (I was there and I loved it), but I will nevertheless argue for the '78 tour being the pinnacle.

True on many levels, but debating 78 Bruce (Passaic? Winerland? Fox Theater?) vs 80 Bruce (tempe? Landover?) and my first show, Boston 12/15/80, hard to say clearly what was best , except simply EPIC. But Metlife 2016, gotta say, pretty amazing, and 4:12 with no break, and great set list, hmmmm

That's Springsteen's time capsule track, his best song as far as I'm concerned!✅️💯 Some raw emotional badassery contained within those lyrics (which are truly inspiring & powerful) that you really feel when he belts it out live!🔥

I was at this show with three friends, having driven all the the way from Santa Fe (almost 500 miles) to see it. I'd been a Springsteen fan since the mid 70s (thanks largely to the urging of my rabbi!!) , collected bootlegs, saw him whenever possible. When I moved to Santa Fe, a friend I made there was just as big a fan but had never seen him live. I told him the next time Bruce got anywhere near Santa Fe, we were going, no matter what. Well, Tempe was as close as he got, and we went. It was the day after Reagan's election, and we were pretty bummed out about it. Nothing like seeing Bruce to raise your spirits! I distinctly remember before Bruce launched into this rendition of Badlands, he faced the audience and said, "I don't know what you think about what happened yesterday, but personally, it scares me," and then he a launched into this blistering rendition of Badlands, a rejoinder to the election. Like Bruce once said, rock n' roll is not about giving up.
Not to worry Reagan was a pretty good President compared to the bumbling fool we have today. With Biden we have an open border while the country itself is in lockdown over COVID. Our foreign policy is a mess just check out our withdrawal from Afghanistan. Finally inflation is at its highest since the Nixon era and crime in the inner cities are up double digits and Biden is not finished-God help us.
Definition of a Rock Star...
I saw Bruce on this tour - it was life changing. There was a brief period - like 1975-1982 when the Rock was still raw and uncontrolled and unrefined - technology was improving quickly, but music still had a rawness. Bruce, John Lennon, the Clash, Rolling Stones, Queen etc. It will never be the same. MTV killed it all. Ironically, Video killed the R&R star.
No. Rock was extremely healthy until somewhere around 2010 The American Recording industry stopped promoting it. It is till doing well in Europe where bands like Fontaines DC and Inhaler still top the charts. Rock did not stop being Raw in 1983 though it did have a short creative dryspell about then until roughly 1987. That said even in that period bands like U2 and Yes put out phenomenal Rock Music. The 90's were almost a 2nd Golden Age for Rock like an echo of the 70's. Even the 2000's had a lot of energy in Emo and Alternative Rock. Bands like Audioslave and Green Day put out great albums. Velvet Revolver and Fall Out Boy also seemed to keep the music going. I'm a generation X guy but I have to say you speak an untruth if you say Rock was destroyed by MTV. MTV was last relevant around 1994. Rock kept going without it. In the 80's and 90's Rock went underground so that if you looked at the top 40 it rarely showed up. But groups like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Green Day, The Offspring, G'N'R and Metallica were selling 10's of millions of CD's. Rock isn't dead now but in the US it isn't selling. Overseas it does fine and a lot of interesting stuff is coming out of places like India and Mongolia. But if you only listen to Classic Rock you'd have no way of noing this.

What an incredible band
I first heard that song in 1985 when Bruce played it in Frankfurt Germany on the Born in the USA tour,since that day it is my absolut favorite Bruce Springsteen Song... like a thunderstorm it blews everything away that ain't got a solid foundation,buildet on love,faith and hope😎✌

I deliberately stayed pessimistic but now that counts are coming in I have some hope for a good outcome. Still, it depends on the final vote counts and the outcome of any court challenges. We'll see.
