This is just about the best pop song ever recorded. I could listen to this over and over (and I often do). Thanks to original composer Christian Petzold ("Minuet in G Major", from the 1700s), and 1960s adapters Sandy Linzer and Denny Randell. And of course thanks to Barbara Harris and the fabulous Toys, and to PBS for staging this show 15 or 20 years ago or so. Excellent!
I have met Barbara Harris on several occasions. Not only are her performances always incredible, she is also a lovely, gracious, and personable individual who truly seems to enjoy her work and personal interactions. I remember once, when I first met her, I told her how disappointed I was that she didn't include "Attack" in her set. She informed me that she was only given so many minutes on stage and she couldn't fit it in. Then, she immediately went into a large portion of the song and sang it to me acapella..........just for me!!!. Now, who does that? The lady is wonderful!
@@stonestone9001 I don't know if she performs outside the Country or if she is still performing at all. She lives in the mid-Atlantic region of the USA and most of her appearances seem to be within driving distance (3 or 4 hours) of her home.
I love the saxophonist nod at the very last moment. The whole performance is amazing, as Barbara Harris and company **invariably** are, performing this, but that nod caps off, summarizes everything that came before it, pure musical joy and affirmation of love and everything that is truly important in life, implicit in the original baroque masterpiece usually attributed to Bach but apparently by a now obscure composer "Petzold". But Bach included it in his children's music instruction, so Bach considered it on a level with his own, and possibly admired it even more. Like the Pachelbel Canon, it takes just one masterpiece to get to the pantheon forefront. This minuet is one of the greats of all time because it so uniquely and PURELY captures all our highest ideals of love and joy.
It's great to hear Barbara Harris perform A Lover's Concerto live on PBS. It's a song that's been one of my favorites for more than 50 years and I never get tired of it.
I love this rendition and all of them. I love Barbara Harris. PBS does such a good job with the arrangements and production. There is one more recent PBS performance that I also love, but I don’t think it has been posted. It’s quite good! There a few out there and I like them all!
Thanks Barbara Harris for sharing your amazing and uplifting voice to the world and me when its definitely needed. Read all of these comments that are so powerful like your voice in this song 🙏😀

@@johnstephen7610 Barbara Harris is performing in my area in a few weeks (July 2023). The singers with her here are not from the original Toys. The lady with the short hair was from The Cookies.
Barbara is really good what a voice! Folks it’s really hard to transcend time and sound even better than 4-5 decades later with that energy!
And that is a true live performance, folks. No lip synching here. That is Barbara Harris' real voice.
Fantastic!
I will never, ever get tired of this song. A true classic!
Barbara Harris' performance here is my happy place.

The shorter lady used to be with a old group called the Cookies. The younger one not sure

The older lady is from a 60s group called the Cookies their main song was DONTSAY NOTHING BAD ABOUT MY BABY. The younger girl is a backup singer
show de musica
1963 * 2018 +
hard to do, but this even beats the original
Does anyone here know that the music was lifted from Bach himself? Here you go: ruclips.net/video/on1DDSLdDOo/видео.html
Yes
The composer was Christian Petzold, not Bach. Minuet in G Major.
