Why were BX's so great? Take it too London park anywhere and just adjust the suspension to it's lowest. Then watch the traffic wardens fail at putting a car clamp on it.

I don't know if you've driven these too, but, as for handling, I think the best would be either the xantia activa or the bx, being considerably lighter... though they may not be as comfy as cx or c6.

The hydraulic suspension on these and other citroens was litterally like nothing else on the road. My father worked at a citroen dealers in the 80s and 90s so we grew up with several bx's including a lovely GSA, the older brother to the bx. Many fond memories of them i must say, including driving through a flood around 1990 with the gsa, we were followed in by a beige toyota i think a corona or similar, and right in the middle it died!! We came out the other side and just dropped the xar back to normal ride height and with a cheeky toot"toot" drove off!! 😂 I should say it was a very busy road and their were plenty of people about to help the now silly stranded toyota driver but memories like these never fade!!

If nothing else, the advice on rear facing seats for non-isofix cars is damn useful. Lots of high end luxury cars and performance cars even in the 00's didn't have isofix as standard (Audi apparently charged hundreds of ££s for it as an option back in the day). I feel kind of old that a car that I rode in as a kid is now an every-day-classic...

Nice! But check out the suspension, from what I can see it’s too stiff/springy (not enough pressure in the spheres, easy and cheap job to fix). Engine is a marvel, we had a Peugeot 405 turbo diesel with the same engine, did 284K MI and still very reliable, fast, very low oil consumption < 1l/6000Mi. Never had a BX, dad had 3 GS(A)s in the day, currently own an Xm myself.

I owned a BX - 1.9 n/a diesel TXD hatch - K223 DDP. Only car I have ever regretted scrapping. It was slow but that XUD engine was bullet proof and while it did sound like an old tractor, it was part of it's charm. I loved it's pillowy ride, the steering, the on/off brakes, the almost lack of body roll, the suspension that could rise and lower on demand but most of all, the seats. Comfiest seats this side of a Swede!
