My sister and I just sang this song at our uncle Ed's funeral. He still lived on the Homeplace. His tools and pictures of the farm were on the table with his cremains. It was so fitting to sing this song.
I am still unable to listen to this beautiful piece of music with dry eyes. Reminds me of my family and friends that have moved along, some to everlasting joy others I can not say. Regardless they traveled through my life and left their fingerprint. I am now in my late 70's and I wonder who will watch my home place when I'm gone from here! Bob
Hey Bob, I just read your comment and this song brings me joy to listen to. It made me get a little teary-eyed. The first time I heard it yesterday I have friends I have friends that have left impact in my life. God blesses us with so many wonderful things every day, and I just want you to know that you’re an amazing person and God will be with you every step of the way through all of your hard times. Love you bye-bye
This song touches my soul after leaving my families farm, seeing it split sold and removed from me. it will always be my home place even if I am gone from there. The ghosts of my family still warm the hills and valleys their spirit will never leave or be sold.
Bless you for this wonderful song. Our homeplace was sold this past summer. I can relate to memories of the stream where I retreated as a child to watch water creatures and to listen to the drip of the waterfall. The tool shed was there too. The spirit of the land and our family going back more than a hundred years will always be in my heart.. .
I'm 23 and I grew up on bluegrass as well as good old country. This song was one of my favorites growing up. I'm thankful to have grown up in the country where it's peaceful and beautiful, just like this song❤
The first and only the best blue grass music ever know to me by this super artist Lewis, thx so much for her contribution to the music community the world over.
This song radiates throughout my soul. This is so beautiful....and moving. One of the most beautiful songs sung by very talented people........and I can only imagine how the other poster must feel who recalls their old farm being sold...and gone. This is one of those songs that make you thankful you discovered it. My thanks to LL and her band.
Hello, I just found your channel today and I absolutely love your guys singing voices. You guys are such amazing singers and I love your singing. Keep up the good work. Love you.
I love this song and Laurie and her band do a beautiful job of playing and singing it. The writer of this song, Kate Long is who wrote these beautiful lyrics. You all do a great job on this song, thank you. ♥ Such great teamwork with in the band members too.
This song brings me memories back from eighties. I was the bass player of a backing band for her in Finland in Haapavesi Folk festival sometime then. We were having a get-together as a practicing session and when I appeared with an electric bass, it did no please her at all. My friends told her to be patient and listen how it will turn out. And so we did a few songs and she said: " it does not sound that bad at all"... I hope that I remember that all correctly. She probably won´t remember that "incident" at all!
Mary Gibbons on guitar, Tom Rozum on mandolin, and Todd Phillips on bass. This was voted song of the year by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA).
I met Ms. Lewis at Merle Fest, I forget which year but we stayed at the same motel. It was her last day and as she was checking out I asked her if she was going to play this song on the big stage later on that day. She said it was not on the set list, but she proceeded to sing it for me alone in the lobby of the Williams Motel. Later that day when she performed on the Watson Stage she snag it again, saying this is for her new friend Pete. I doubt that she would remember it, but I will never forget what a warm and lovely person she was and is, and how beautiful this song is.
Ja, stimmt. Ein trauriges Lied, aber so so schön. Keine Frage.
A sweet voice with a sweet song. I first heard this on WWUH out of Hartford, when I still lived near there. Loved it then, still do. Laurie's other big one is "Texas BlueBonnets."
I recall clearly hearing this for the first time. I was driving 85 mph in western Oklahoma. I started bawling and had to pull on the shoulder. Soon my uncle will breathe his last, and the land that’s been in the family since 1872 will go to who knows.
I'm like you ginger. My parents farm is without their presence after 40+ years now but I go there and stand in the barn and the house and keep them close to my heart. I cry too it's a sad song and life happens just like this.
My 1st listen was years ago on Kinny Rorrer's show on Saturday night back when he was on WAKG. It is just beautiful. If this song does not touch your heart, something is wrong with you. Aside from that, don't you love the boots?
I have seen and heard LL do this great song and people are spellbound when she sings this great tune that is done in the key of B (1-4-5 mostly with a lot of 2m's and a 3m7 in the intro ).
Hey, what is the story behind the song who will watch the homeplace? It is such a pretty song and I am wondering what this story behind it is a beautiful song.

This brings tears each time I hear it. We all have that home, that space that will always be in our minds.. ❤
This song brings tears to my eyes. Makes one think of those who have gone before us.

A wonderful song. My mom sang it for my grandfather, at his funeral. Always reminds me of him.

Hard to describe the beauty of this song and Ms Lewis' lovely interpretation of it.
The first and only the best blue grass music ever know to me by this super artist Lewis, thx so much for her contribution to the music community the world over.
AWESOME song ! Great band too ! Tears from a 78 year old man.
Laurie wrote me a touching letter when I had cancer back in 2009. Love that lady! Genuine!❤️

La nostalgie d'un temps perdu ...Très joli ! (nice ! ) From France .
My time is closer every day. I don't know what will happen to my life's work on this farm. Tears roll.
Always makes me cry. Impressed to see how many folks, not just us here in WV [home of the songwriter] are deeply touched by this song.
This is how music has to be . .. ! WIth true emotion, and very well perforned . . . It leaves me quiet and in peace . . .
What a great job they've done on that song, I've sung it myself many times never get enough of it. Thanks for sharing 😊🎶🎵
Just found this fabulous singer! What a voice,it has strength, clarity, and range. Best female singer I have heard.Love it🎻
One of the sweetest voices & fiddle this side of Heaven! Laurie Lewis is an awesome Bluegrass songstress far too few folks know about!
This so reminds me of my "homeplace" on Stilson Hill. Takes my heart back home. Love it.

Beautiful! Great song, fine playing and what a truly lovely singer!! Thanks for posting!
One of my favorites for sure.
This was my song while I took care of my folks at the end of their lives.
My mom sold my grandparents farm in WV shortly after they passed. It broke our hearts. Now it is all grown up & looks awful.
This lovely song was written by Kate Long from W. Va.

havent heard this in a few years, still great
One of the Greatest songs ever written.
It's more than a piece of music, but a very distinctive poem that sinks into my memory
A special friend introduced me to this exquisite, heart-achingly beautiful song. It makes me feel sad. I can really relate to it. Thank you so much.
Thank you from the UK, great to see smiling faces, great music and great fun.
Thanks again.
Wonderful song presented to perfection. From an English Sea Shanty singer with ' Swinging the Lead '

Hey, what is the story behind the song who will watch the homeplace? It is such a pretty song and I am wondering what this story behind it is a beautiful song.
Where was this filmed? Outstanding performance that puts one right at home with the soul.
Who will filll Laurie Lewis's shoes when she is gone?
this song came from the devine and it belongs to the universe
Who is playing guitar, banjo and bass in this video?
One of the saddest songs I've ever heard.
