- A pair of CSX GEVOs lead southbound manifest Q647 over steep grades on the Chattanooga Sub. The steep hills in this stretch make heavy southbound trains slow to about 10-15mph. These hills don't affect northbounds very much.
CSX 796 probably has the healthiest, or at least best sounding, NF 1PC 1L K5HL on CSX.
Filmed in Fosterville, TN.

That is one AWESOME K5HL! 796 definitely has one of the best sounding 2nd gen K5HLs
Those 2nd Gen K5HLs really are epic horns! Really like the sound the tracks make when the train is approaching
Concrete ties seem to do that for whatever reason and sometimes wooden ties in certain places. It can get annoying though and cover up other sounds. But I’ll always live these K5HLs though many don’t appreciate the harshness.
@@CSXfan4589 Yep, that's what I've noticed how it's usually the cement ties. Through Kennesaw, they used to have cement ties on just one track which were redone with wood ties in June 2019. They don't seem to make as much noise now. Sometimes I film over in Youngstown past the B&O Station, the tracks are curved there and they seem to make noise more than the straight wood-tie tracks. Before I used a scanner, I would hear the tracks rattling and that's how I know a train would be coming. I can usually hear it when the train is about a mile away, probably depending on how hard it's pulling. Once I was in Kennesaw and a notch 8 southbound manifest came by on the cement tie track before they were replaced, and the tracks started rattling about an entire 5 minutes before the crossing activated! It must have something to do with how concrete is harder than wood and doesn't absorb the vibration as much as wood.
yea, the wooden ties tend to do a better job absorbing the vibration
it's not the ties that make the sound, altho the ties used is what emphasizes the sound more. it's the actual track and locomotive bogeys themselves, it's metal on metal (meaning metal wheels on metal track) so it will make the sound no matter the type of ties on the rails. but generally speaking, yes, the concrete ties do tend to emphasize the sound a little more
@@thedwaynerailfans Yes, the noise is in the rails. Forgot to say that lol
I think this is my favorite K5HL horn, I may not know cause I tend to seem to go back and forth between the 2nd and 1st Gen. One train an hour ago on Virtual Railfans La Grange stream, had to give a car a few long blasts of its amazing 2nd gen, cause he or she took their time moving.
Laying down on the horn 💯💯
Damn! Nice K5HL Horn.
0:23 nice horn for BNSF 7558 man!
Nice! Sure sounds sweet!
Nice catch on those CSX GE leaders! And kickass 2nd-gen K5HL! Hey you wanna join our train chat on RUclips?
I don't think I'd be active enough since I'm on this account only on weekdays for about 3 hours. Thanks though!
I would install one of these horns on BNSF 7558! 0:23 here comes BNSF 7558!
*THATS MINT AF!!*
Reminds me of the ferromex units
Yeah, their GEVOs have great K5HLs and K5LLAs for some reason. Not sure if it’s their air pressure, their temps, or just the mic that guy down there has
I just realized that CSX has Ukrainian Colors in order like 🇺🇦
