Best explanation I've heard for flying changes. ❤ I always learn something new from these videos and it makes me a better instructor and rider. Thank you ❤️
I was and I’m still being taught to do this: Example 4 tempi. Carefully change the flexion to the side of the new lead. Count one, two, ready, change. On “ready” slide the leg for the change back just a little to alert the change. On “change” slide leg back for the change. At the same time the leg is asking, the hand on the same side is lifted slightly ( assuming you have connection) and the new inside hand softens to allow the change. All the while riding half halts before the change, keeping straight, forward and connected back to front. Repeat 5 times. This sequence may be simplified to just sliding the leg back once for the change when the changes are confirmed. Also you can slide and bump if it helps. Is this correct? It’s so complicated. How does the horse know to wait for the 2nd slide of the leg? Seems confusing and likely to cause anticipation that is already on the verge of happening. Tempi changes are a nightmare.
Wonderful explanation. Do you have a video on how to increase the air time in the suspension phase. Should you slow the canter, or increase the speed of the canter? When I add leg and half halt my horse starts hopping around and I get all kinds of funky responses, which is him telling me he has no clue what to do.
Great explanation. Can you show it as well, but in slow motion. Both when wrong and when right? How do you build up, both horse and rider to be able to change?

That's great . You have a perfect way of explaining the process
This was great. I need to work on a better developed canter

Thank you for this!
Beautiful nugget ❤
