Really appreciate this. This makes me rethink the decision of getting her cochlear implant on her profound ear.
My daughter is severe in 1 year and profound in the other and just not doing well .

It all depends on the time with a hearing aid prior to the CI and also the expertise of your surgeon and then of course the listening therapy (and full time use) and ongoing MAPPIng post surgery. See your implant audiologist for the best options and journey for MAPPing and auditory training.

I am very worried and I hope you will respond. I’m fourteen, and ever since I’ve been around the age of 12, I’ve had tinnitus. My tinnitus, I think, has been caused by how I used to listen to music, I would turn it all the way up for hours, it was also rock music. Now, my tinnitus is layered pitches in both ears, it can get loud or almost completely disappear. Sometimes, it can also spike at random moments, making my ear ring very loudly and my ear feel full, as if there was a gaping sound missing. It’s been getting worse, and now it’s so starting to make my dizzy. I think I might be going deaf, which scares me. Living with tinnitus, which I’ve been “diagnosed” with, is already hard enough, it makes my depression and anxiety worse, and I’ve thought about killing myself. I’m doing better, but living with it getting worse and maybe even ending up with hearing loss is something I fear I can’t live through. Do you think, based from what I’ve told you, I might have hearing loss? And if so, what do you think could help me deal with the process of becoming deaf? I already have terrible anxiety, and not being able to hear things around me makes me have anxiety attacks sometimes, so I hope it’s not terrible news. I’m going to schedule an audiology appointment again soon. Thank you for the video.

I am so sorry to read about your condition and my heart goes out to you having to deal with this. You need to see an Audiologist, possibly psychologist, and ear physician right away if you have not already. I cannot give specific advice about your condition over the internet but I hope you get help very soon. Hang in there and get your test ASAP. There are treatments out there.

What if you’ve just had tympanoplasty and you feel dizzy all the time and have tinnitus. My ears feel muffled sometimes I can hear worse than others. Can’t hear any whispering soft or quiet sounds would you say that’s moderate hearing loss?

    • @DrRoseHelpsYouHear

We can't base severity on self-perceived hearing loss, this is something that must be measured. You should speak to your surgeon about a post-surgical hearing test to see if you have any nerve loss and could benefit from the use of a hearing aid. This would also give you a chance to assess the bulk of your complaints. Best of luck to you!

Also speak to your surgeon about your dizziness, this is very important to ask how normal this is based on the type of surgery you had and the stage of recovery you are in.
