Is that copper wire connected to the flexible conduit? If so how? My conduit doesn't have a wire and I don't have a separate ground wire coming out of the wall.
@@josephk9182 I don't have a ground coming out of the wall but an electrician told me that my conduit is the ground. Do you think I can lead a copper wire from the conduit to the ground on the garbage disposal?
What are the pieces called that went around the conduit? I have a connected disposal & water is leaking from where the conduit is connected to the bottom of the disposal, what is happening & what is the best way to fix this issue?
You should not have water leak where the conduit is connected !! This may create an electrical short and it is also electrical hazard. You should disconnect electricity to the garbage collector and figure out from where the water is leaking. Water can be leaked from the drain pipe, from the connection to the sink or from the collector as a result of internal hole causes by rust. In case, there is an internal hole you should replace the collector otherwise, repair the leak.
@@josephk9182thank you for your reply. I knew it was unsafe & was curious why it may be leaking. It's definitely not coming from other outside attached connections so it's inside the unit. Yes will replace disposal asap. QUESTION: I have a double sinj, if I remove the disposal now for safety, but have my brother attached the new disposal another day, can I still run water & use the other side (w/o disposal) of the sink?
@@josephk9182 one of your other viewers said that putting on the garbage disposal was tough. Do you think I, a female, would have the strength to put on the disposal?
@@jjf609 Yes you should be able to use the other sink. After you removed the disposal put the drain pipe of this disposal up toward the sink that water come from the other sink will not leak via the pipe of the disposal you just removed.
@@jjf609 It is more technique than power. By the way, you may get a new sink for free from the manufacture if it still under warranty (may be 3 years).
I throw the breaker, turn off the wall switch, then check with a meter for zero volts and then as a final check I short the wires together so that if I am wrong I will get a big spark but the voltage is not running through me! I'm pretty paranoid.
Joseph K I finally got it off the sink but now the ground wire screw is so rusted that it will not unscrew. Can I cut the ground wire off and feed a new section of it into the new diaposal?
Yes you can but you must connect the new ground wire to the old ground wire properly. You can use sleeve connector look like this www.homedepot.com/p/Tyco-Electronics-18-10-AWG-Steel-Crimp-Sleeves-10-Pack-BM3032-000/205878601?MERCH=REC-_-PIPHorizontal2_rr-_-300496095-_-205878601-_-N
by nec code you are not suppost to use black electrical tape to cover already cut bare wires its best to cut it at the place where it's showing bare wire then wire it back up other than that dude good job
Thanks for you comment it always better to do what you suggested but on the neutral wire when it was difficult to cut the wire because the length of the wire it is OK.
You should first shut the breaker switch of the garbage disposal before you do any electrical work, however if your garbage disposal is connected with plug to outlet you can unplug it from the outlet and you can change or repair the garbage disposal .
If I understand, you mean that the ground is connected properly but the neutral and the hot switched. In this case, it will work but it against code. You can easily verify using a volt-meter or simple tester which wire is the hot and which is the neutral and connect it properly.
How do I test it...It's a volex cable and it shows a letter N on one leg and I follow the cable along that leg and connect it to neutral(I assume N is neutral)..I hope it's right. The reason why I did this because both hot and neutral lines from my power cable are black, so I am little worry. If the cable doesnt cross between each end, I think i got it right.

Thank you Joseph! Great instructions. You’re the best!,!!
I watched other videos on this subject and yours are the best. Thank you for the clear explanation.
Here are my five stars.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Any time.
This was an extremely helpful walkthrough. Great camera work, also. Thanks for taking the time to post!

Thank you! Garbage Disposal SUCCESSFULLY Installed by me! Your electrical piece was very useful.
Thank You
I just installed my disposal an hour ago. Locking it in place was a beast!
Good job.
Thanks , well done!

No the copper wire is not connected to the flexible conduit. From the wall you should have 3 wires: hot, netural and ground.

I'm planning to change my garbage disposal by myself. The old one is hardwired, will i still get electrocuted even with the breaker off?
No, but you shoul first diconnect the relevant circuit breaker that feed the disposal before you star replacing the disposal.
I throw the breaker, turn off the wall switch, then check with a meter for zero volts and then as a final check I short the wires together so that if I am wrong I will get a big spark but the voltage is not running through me! I'm pretty paranoid.
Do you have to cut the power to the switch from the main power box or can you replace take the cables just by having the light switch off ??
Preferable from the main power box unless you sure that turn off the light switch cut the hot wire to the garbage disposal.
what size of the wire clamps is that
Should be 1/2"
thank you sir
Very Helpful
Thanks
