Yeah, you're missing applicability. It's more than 1 second faster but if you're doing hundreds of these over the course of job, then the time savings will add up. Also, power draw is going to be a huge factor. Iirc, the 5ah PS pushes out like 40% more power than the regular 5ah battery. It was on part with the 9ah flexvolt.
If you do a lot of overhead work, a lighter battery pack that simultaneously provides more power is a godsend. Lifting less weight overhead while also spending less time in that position makes a huge difference if you’re doing it a lot. The price is tough to swallow though lol
Curious, do you swap batteries *between the two tools?* just to make sure the one on our right (your left), just “isn’t faster” (would still drive better with the standard XR battery lol)
Flex stack would be a godsend - I highly doubt they won’t make it happen seeing as they’re now making their own batteries. You can’t do film edits when you’re doing a heads up comparison. How do we that cut in just before you pressed the power button was from earlier or even from a different battery?
When you find out the batteries are exactly the same one just has a better BMS and small circuit that unlocks the motor’s geometry for more torque and that you’re paying for a $.03 chip.
Issue with that, flex batteries are 24 volt vs. 20v nominal (18 working volts) on the Dewalt, unless they are actually delivering 20 *true* working volts on the new power stack?
Tests have already been done. Side note first, power detect and flexvolt advantage are actually the same. Obviously both can detect power draw differences. It seems to be just a SKU difference so different stores can sell them without having to price match or some such. Some speculate for example, one is for Lowes, the other for Home Depot. With that said, tests have been done, and the 5ah is just under the equivalent to a 9ah flex and just over an 8ah 20v.
Its not just about speed. They also provide more power to get jobs done easier that will make weaker batteries struggle. At that point the difference will become more than a second. So yes, on easy tasks the difference wont seem to matter, but on hard tasks, you will notice.
So a bigger size ( longer ) more expensive pack for a little bump in performing. Maybe when they drop in price, other wise the cylindrical is still good to go !
All down to the battery. Damn!! Explains sooo much when it comes to battery lawn tools. Got a battery leaf blower. The smaller battery we have does a better job than the big one!
Anyone who has ever used those new Dewalt Batteries knows that they lock up and overheat after about 100 screws I’ve had at least 14 of them replaced by Dewalt. They lock up for about 30 or 45 minutes and then they appear to work again.
Do a couple more screws for comparison, but yeah, you are finally learning how to compare apples to apples. Amp hour is a rating of stored energy, a battery discharging at 1 amp for 5 hours is rated the same as one that can discharge at 5 amps for 1 hour. A 10 amp hour battery might discharge at a slower rate then a 5 amp hour, but it will be able to do so for much longer.

@Whiskey.Tango.Actual it's like putting a bigger gas tank on a car and saying it has more horsepower. A 5ah cylinder cell to me will always be better than a 2ah pouch pack battery. The 5ah has twice the capacity. The only time the pouch packs would come into play is they can surge out higher amps * sometimes * it depends on what you are doing with it. If you are using a drill that is pulling 20 amps while driving a screw, using a standard cylinder style batt, using a pouch design battery would make no difference.
