Ironically, the best part about not being a neet anymore is how little free time i have in comparison, makes those moments way more enjoyable, specially when you don't have those "I'm wasting my life" and "I'm a good for nothing parasite" thoughts at the back of your head all day long. You can change your life, it's definitely not easy but 100% worth it

Finished this series around 2015 when I was 13-14 and out of curiosity rewatched it a few weeks ago, I'm 22 and this show hit a lot of raw nerves.

LightswrathUltimatum Ok. Well, i just wrote how i felt at the time. This anime made me really take a step back and reexamine some stuff in my life. Sometimes you need something to interrupt the cycle, you know?
I'm 23 now and I've been living like this for 3.5 years since I was 20. No job, boring and depressing life, no girlfriend, no friends, skinny, no skills whatsoever.
I used to go to college, but I stopped when I was in my 4th semester because I experienced something that I only found out some time later that it was depression.
Since then, my days have only been spent watching Anime, RUclips, playing social media, and all sorts of things on the Internet. The only time I stop playing on my cellphone or computer is when I sleep, and even then my sleep hours are chaotic, maybe I only sleep 4 hours a day. I use those things as distractions for my useless life. My daily food is only junk food, I rarely go out of the house. I just lock myself in my room every day. I tried to commit suicide several times but failed because I was afraid of the pain.
I've tried many times to get up and change, but for some reason maybe because I'm weak so I always fail and that makes me always feel hopeless.
But deep down in my heart, I don't want to live like this forever.
Now I want to try again, I want to change completely. I want to start over from zero.
Starting today, I promise to take action for my life.

i remember being a hikikomori, these were the worst days of my life waking up everyday full of regrets but fortunatelly i overcome this...
there were times when I couldn't even have fun with anime or games, because guilt and the feeling of wasted time took over everything.
I may not have much time for that unlike those days, but the best feeling is being able to watch anime and playing games knowing that i'm moving forward in life.

I think everyone has watched this anime during periods of depression. I watched it last year. The most realistic slice of life anime. a complete masterpiece
Not really realistic since the guy got himself a woman from the very first episode.

Welcome to the NHK is easily the greatest slice of life anime I've ever seen followed by kids on the slope. The writing in this is phenomenal. Great series

Golden Aura Woah there Jean from Podtaku. When I heard the reuniting of Shinichirō Watanabe and Yoko Kano, I was expecting another Bebop and I was disappointed af. The soundtrack was decent, but the plot was god awful.
Sam Graff I'm just happy seeing everyone listened to this! The show and soundtrack is fantastic.
My friend was literally sato but after watching this (and a few crying moments) he has a job and his own apartment.

Sam Graff How? The characters were all perfectly developed, it was well paced, and had a nice conclusion. And the soundtrack wasnt "decent" it was amazing, i'd argue on par with if not better than Bebops.

This is an anime that every anime fan should watch, not only because it's great, but because of its *messages* that it's saying.
I think those people who haven't experienced depression, anxiety or anti-socialism still should check this out, to see what it is like to suffer from them, how someone with those issues thinks, feels and acts in different situations.
I loved this because the main character was such a jerk xd. But yeah the messages of the Anime are very deep.

I remember watching this after i dropped out of college around pandemic. My short college life was tragic. Had hard times on online learning and just frustrated with the people around me. Though after dropping out, i had a coding job but that didn't satisfy me enough. This anime was the sole reason i went back to college and finish what I should've finished right now. Here I am at my 2nd year taking Economics.

Sometimes I hesitate when searching up this song because as nice as it is it reminds me of a dark time. But it serves as a reminder to never let things get that bad again and that things can get better if you just do something about it.

This anime is heavily underrated. Literally changes the way you see things and for many, it helps us see ourselves, and it could be a that push we need to get ourselves a reality check. This may be my experience, but this anime greatly helped me.

It is not underrated, it is one of the most respected SoL and psychology titles in the industry.
It literally is placed at the top of most must watch lists and only the most casual of viewers are unaware of it.
If you want something with a cult following yet not popular you'd need something like Haibane Renmei, and even then it's marginally well-known.

Con lo "rota" que estaba Misaki por dentro, era imposible que pudiera realmente "curar" a Sato. Y al final, no fue ni ella ni su amigo los que lo curaron. Fue sólo cuando él tomó la decisión de cambiar que pudo realmente hacerlo (aunque estuviera obligado a hacerlo, al final, fue él el que lo hizo).

Well, I had problems with drugs and girls. At an early age, I was in high school and in a way school made me sick. With women I had many disappointments, horrible experiences that made me fearful, very afraid to open myself to a relationship. I finished school and on vacation I remember seeing this anime, but I did not finish it, I honestly got bored in the first chapter. Meanwhile, I kept making mistakes after mistakes, staying more and more alone and locking myself in the house. In a moment, two years later, I met a girl that I fell in love with, who recommended me to see this anime and this time I saw it complete. I cried, and a lot, I identified with Satou, the main character and I thought that girl was Misaki. They were tears of frustration but also happiness, I believed that that girl and I could support each other and improve. But no, after some problems she left, I was alone, again.
That was two years ago. This is getting long, many more things happened in the middle but a few months ago I wanted to change, forget that I need someone else and try to improve by myself. I want to fulfill my goals, I want to finish my studies, improve my health. I do not use more drugs and for a long time I do not have a toxic and insane relationship, but I'm still alone.
Things are difficult but I struggle, day by day with problems. Sometimes they win, sometimes I win.

I remember watching this with a group of friends I know and it was psychically painful to watch because Sato reminds me of well myself. 23, no job, living with my mom and going through college still. (Dad passed away 3 weeks ago)
Though the anime itself was pretty depressing which didn't help matters as I was going through a pretty hard rough patch at that point.
This anime speaks truth. It's not pleasant and doesn't sugarcoat it. You won't achieve your dreams so just try and enjoy your life and be outgoing. It's all you can really hope for.

This anime truly shows that if you don’t take control of your own life it can lead to you going into a downward spiral. To all my brothers and sisters I want to remind you that you are not alone in whatever struggles you are facing and there are many others including myself fighting with you.
I just absolutely love the dissonance of this;
A really upbeat and happy sounding song in the backdrop of a story about depression, anxiety and mental illness, quite smart of the studio to do this to grab the viewers attention.

(2022) I was reading my diary when I found the word "NHK ni youkuo" damn... to think it's been 7 since the last time I watched this. This show hit me so hard that it changed me for the better. I've watched 200+ anime now and even still, this is still my no.1 anime. People who love this anime will gain my respect no matter how awful they can be

This song made me cry, it's been so long since I listened to it. It's one of my favorite anime but i'm so afraid to watch it again because I know it'll make me cry again.
I watched this anime when I was 13 and I didn't understand it or even relate to it. But when I rewatched it a while ago all what i can say is Puru Puru Pururin

Darkest slice of life story ever
Cheezy I disagree. I don't think Clannad even comes close to being as dark and depressing as this entire anime.
Cheezy Yes, I have lol. I have watched it and the first season over 3 times. Clannad just deals with the death of major characters, NHK deals with drug use, suicide, depression, loneliness etc.
Cheezy Clannad AS is more melancholic, NHK is darker.

Well this anime actually helped me, it made me realize that I have social anxiety disorder and its quite serious. As I watched the anime many times I saw Satou going through same situations as me. So I made my research and the thing is that I have it and its a big issue now. So I will work hard to change my situation.
Anyway, the only purpose of this comment is to show that an anime actually helped me in a serious real life issue that can change big part of your life lol

+noledareminombreaunamaquina I had similar feelings in my old home town, after moving out and meeting people who are able to take me as crazy fool as I am, I were able to get rid of those thoughts of others laughing at me.
Still I can't handle random insults for no reason, such people still confuse and put me on tilt.
It was quite a throwback to watch this anime and realize that how much easier it is to be without stressing over constantly about your every movement and how others might react.

+noledareminombreaunamaquina I used to have it quite bad as well. Just try desensitization. Gradually expose yourself to people and crowds and public speaking. Start off small, and up it slowly until you reach what would be considered normal functioning. I used to avoid going into stores to buy stuff, even essential stuff because I was too uncomfortable with the interaction.
Now, due to the aforementioned regimen I can talk to masses of people with considerable ease. There'll always be a vestigial remnant of the anxiety, but the important thing I've learnt is that you can't rid yourself of it, but you can learn to deal with it.

I think this one is better than Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei. Welcome to the NHK is more relatable in my opinion and has a more serious tone onto it, even when there is comedy around. It even deals with depression, loneliness and suicide. YST is pure comedy from episode 1 to 9. The last two are the only ones that are really serious. Not that it isn't good though.
Also recommend reading the Manga of ReLife if you ever get the chance
I watched this show for the first time back in 2014 and I decided to rewatch it again since I'm satou's age now
it's funny I really didn't understand the show as much I thought I did when I was 16.
but now everything has come full circle. I resonate with satou's character now more than ever.

16 rn and in a way i felt like the sato of old. just like he said he just went with the flow of where life will take him and look at what it led him to. even as a youngin i feel like animes like this really teaches u a thing or two about life, no matter how young or old u are

I love series like this that take common anime characteristics and flip them on their head. For me they've been the best of anime genres. I like it when shows comes up with original ideas as they are a rare thing these days anywhere. Whether you're in Japan or America.

I just finished the whole series, its masterpiece and thank god I found another hidden gem. This anime really gives you a life lesson even thou your mentally stable you can still feel the MC pain, anxiety depression, negative and suicide thoughts in the whole series and how he overcome by changing his life and himself. I became depressed 2 years ago and somehow I overcome it by myself because the only person who can sympathize me and understand me is only myself its not that you have to always seek help for others but you have to learn to stand on your own feet too. Goodbye Satou-san and congratulations for escaping your hikikomori life.. Im gonna miss the characters in this series

Man this song hits different after nearly a year of lockdown
This is one of my favorite animes simply because of the ending. It is an Anime that some people can really relate to. We all feel alone or we feel like we are broken. Then somebody comes along the way who is just as broken as you are and tries to fix you. The ending he said, that he knew he wouldn't be happy forever, and he was okay with that. That is so true, because we all go through so much in life, we suffer, we get depressed, but we will know we will be okay. We will get through this. Especially if we have someone who helps us get through the pain. It really changed me after watching this.

I love this show. I listen to this on cardio every workout. The show resonates really well with anyone who has been through real depression and isolation.
Esse anime é mt especial pra mim, assisti ele pela primeira vez faz uns 4~5 anos, ele me deixou preocupado com o futuro e deprimido, eu fiquei com medo de acabar em uma fossa tão profunda, mas eu só senti isso pq eu me liguei verdadeiramente com o protagonista. Eu senti que somos parecidos demais, e sinto até hoje. Eu amo esse anime sendo como ele é, pq ele se liga perfeitamente com minha personalidade e tipo de pessoa. Provavelmente é algo n mt bom, levando em consideração o contexto, mas é como se eu pudesse entender o protagonista como entendo a mim mesmo. Acho que quando um autor escreve sobre algo com q tem experiencia, isso realmente torna a obra mais rica
Most realistic anime ever. When i started to this anime, i though its just a normal, chill and short anime. I used to get mad to Sato because he was coward and unstable. As i watch, i slowly realized that i really have commons in Sato. It became harder to watch.

I'm not sure why but this song in itself is a very well composed and just a beautiful and nice opening and the sting itself when it gets toward the middle a bit it becomes better in every sense and respect. Absolutely with listening to and letting the music guide you along the notes and vocalizing

I was sad when I was a NEET, living empty lonely life without any purpose or goal.
Then I decided I that I can't let it keep going like that. I became afraid of the future that awaits me, partially due to NHK influence. I pulled myself together, got a job, stopped leeching my parents money, (everybody liked that), I reconnected with some old friends, started to go out more often...
Now I just wish I could get back. I hate it. I hate everything and everyone, and somehow I became even more miserable. No magical positive life-changing happens just because you stopped being a sad lazy parasite. I just wish I could return to that time in my life I stupidly despised, but, well, you can't reverse grinded meat trough a meat grinder...
