  • Welcome to my ultimate dog breeding guide for beginners! This video is specifically associated with Springer Spaniel breeding, but the tips and learnings can be applied to any breed of dog.
    I also took the route of responsible dog breeding - health checks, Kennel Club registration etc, so the tips and costs shown in the video are because I took that route (and I strongly advise following the same route, for the health and welfare of your bitch and puppies!).
    Note - I am not a dog breeding expert. This was a one off experience for me. I was also a beginner last summer!

    This is essentially a restriction placed on a litter which can only be lifted based on specific criteria). In this breeding instance, Pip was a carrier of PRA-CORD1, so 50% of the litter would also be carriers. In order to breed responsibly, I placed an endorsement on each puppy, which can only be lifted once the puppies are health checked by their new owners, prior to meeting their dam/sire if they want to breed from the puppies. If the health checks are clear, or the sire and bitch aren’t both carriers of any disorder, the endorsement can be lifted.

    My earliest memories is of my moms Springer taking off and leaving my mom to bottle feed an entire litter. This was 28 years ago. Momma turned back up right when the puppies all went on their way to their new homes 😂

    Thank you so much! All the information I needed! It's not an issue at the moment, haven't even received the bitch puppy (yes, I'm an experienced dog owner), and I've found it extremely hard to find golden retriever puppies here in Sweden - and since I'm at home 24/7 , I feel a little inclined to get puppies in the future. Not for the money, really, I'd just enjoy it and make people happy.

    Hi! How much time beyond the first 3 weeks (that they were born) did you need to dedicate per day for the pups? Just trying to get an idea of the amount of time, wondering if I still have time to workout or do errands, leave them alone for an hour for example? thank you so much Simon! Really helpful video here. Going to buy the book too.

      @mrheyes  11 месяцев назад +2

      Hi! Great question. Probably quite a bit of time, but that said, yes, it's more than fine to leave the puppies with their mum for an hour or so. You don't want to be housebound, or you'll go insane! :) Thanks for watching, and good luck!

    ty for this am thinking of studding my male cocker jarvis ....were i got jarvis from his parents was cleared of health problems i have all his papers so would u say no need to get these done ...but its now finding a healty female with clear health aswell an nice temper how would u go about finding them ???

    • @mrheyes
      @mrheyes  Год назад

      Hey! Great that you have a clear health check :) A good place to start (if you want to breed Jarvis as a working cocker) are Facebook groups for working cockers spaniels. The other angle is to get in contact with your local shoot (if applicable) to see if any bitches are coming into season anytime soon. One other angle is to list Jarvis as a cocker spaniel stud dog on Champdogs, and people will then get in touch with you if they are interested. Hope that helps and good luck!

      Who hasn't seen the ASPCA commercials about homeless n abused animals? It exists bc everyone turns a blind eye.
      Don't breed to abuse n kill.
      Help with the million Texas street dogs suffering, starving, breeding n dying in the streets. Or rescue street dogs where you live.
      Don't breed . adopt a homeless street dog or a dog from a shelter.
      This is not cute it's a insult to animal control that has to kill pets bc of overpopulation. Get your pets spay n neutered. There are not enough pet homes n animals are being killed because there is no more space. We cannot adopt our way out of the dog cat overpopulation.
      Do the animals n world a favor don't breed to kill.

    Hi there! Quick question, what did you feed them for worming that would pass to the pups before she gives birth? Thank you! We give her heartguard but we are not sure if that passes to the pups or not. researching now! Thank you so much for this video. Brilliant!

    • @laposta4121
      @laposta4121 Месяц назад

      Yeah we ended up giving her the heart guard and it gave her terrible diarrhea and she ended up giving birth on the 60th day (the day after we have it to her)We feel it may have been related. It definitely made he more tired after all of the pushing. Her tummy always is very bothered by it.

    Hi can you keep the female and the male together during the pregnancy and after or do they have to be divided?

    • @mrheyes
      @mrheyes  10 месяцев назад +3

      Hi - no, they don't need to be together. In fact the male should be far away from the female during birth and after, as it will cause undue stress and she'll be overprotective. The more relaxed, the better...as is the case for any species and pregnancy!

    • @gf3887
      @gf3887 10 месяцев назад

      @@mrheyes thank you for replying. Also I noticed the male is very protective of his female when I walk them around and snaps at other male dogs. Is there a way to correct that without being neutered or neutering can be the only solution? Thanks again?

    Since you breeded your female dog with another person male dog what do they get in return on the stud service? Are there any rules on that?

    • @mrheyes
      @mrheyes  4 месяца назад +1

      Hey - the unwritten rule is the owner of the stud dog either receives a stud fee (agreed between the two parties), or has their pick of the litter. The actual amount is decided between the parties and often - these days - agreed in a stud contract. Hope that helps!
