that solo looked super hard hahaha, but IMO the song didn't translate well to a live setting with only one guitar. Still my fave on the album tho.

He just switched from DT tour to this. The music he plays is not the easiest to remember, and at that speed once you screw once you're easily gonna screw the whole song - especially JP who's someone who got quite mad at himself when he makes mistakes.

@@francescopomona2086 that is not justification! I have loved Petrucci for more than 10 years, but he should better prepare himself as a professional musician to give his solo concerts. It's like saying "aah, the doctor killed the patient because he forgot where to cut an artery", if he is professional, the number of errors should be minimal.

I love John, he is my favorite guitarist, but he doesn't do justice in this solo. Maybe it's very hard to play live!

I agree with this, he definetly plays a few wrong notes. But to be fair; I'm learning this right now and it's a logisitical nightmare, my left hand has to jump all over the place and I've found that it's really difficult if there's any lighting issues, for example: Where I practice has three main lighting sources, 2 lines of spot lights and a lamp, if I have the right (hand side) line of spot lamps on they refelct on the frets and I often miss the positioning and get the notes wrong (once I hear it's wrong I can hear when I'm out and I adjust). But by that time I've already played "wrong notes", I've also found this is easier on my guitars with big inlays. It's really hard to manage the neck locations, so God knows how hard this must be on stages where you've got no control of the lights (I'm genuinely scared of playing this out because of lighting concerns). Also, he does these really weird arpeggio shapes, the first one is at about 3:55, and then the pattern happens a few times after that. If you watch youtube vidoes of people covering this track, they all choose right hand tapping to get these arpgeggios done, but that's not what John is doing, he's playing them all with his left hand. I'm not quite sure on how he's picking them, but the best approach I'm finding right now is with economy picking changing directions after the pull-offs. But getting back to the original post, yeah he isn't getting this exactly right, but I think this is just so challenging and dependant of attributes outside of his control, to even consider playing this live is (in my opinion), damn brave. But as said; I completely agree with you, this video doesn't do him justice, but there are other videos of him playing this perfectly, based on my experience, all it needs is a light or two to mess this up.

As much as I love Mike, he sped up this song too much for John to play it correctly
