  • In this Howard County, MO 28 August 2022 adventure, Z-Man GOAT ToadZ enticed a goodly number of feisty bass in a private pond with quite a bit of duck weed on the surface. Two colors of the GOAT ToadZ were tested: Coppertreuse and White using different types of retrieves. The best retrieve on this occasion was to first throw the lure close to the bank and then "Skitter" it rapidly - pause- repeat. I'm fairly sure I was using a 4/0 Gamakatsu heavy wire EWG hook; it worked great. The durability of the GOAT ToadZ was wonderful and the keel design made it run upright, weedless and true. Also, the GOAT ToadZ are a heavy lure allowing for really long casts while being totally bouyant. Conclusion: These 4" topwater ToadZ are excellent!
    For more information, visit: zmanfishing.com/store/categor...
    Per usual, MegaStrike attractant (megastrike.com) was used to enhance the performance of the lures.
    Enjoy the show. P.S. Rudie Tootie will return! :)

    Hippy hopping toadies!! One of my favorite fishing lures!! That duck weed is a bit harder to fish in but with your Z-Man Goat Toadz no problem for you and a big fun day of catching my favorite fish “big bass”. Reaper Team will be back together soon and know you will have a lot of new tips and tricks to show me.😍. Great show Don and see you soon. Lorraine

      Sis, it was a sloppy adventure but still fun to watch bass blow up or "slurp" those GOAT ToadZ. I think you will have a lot of fun throwing them into the grass at Lake Joy and watching those bank hugger bass explode. You will be impressed by how far they cast and how they run great with the keel and flappy feet. Won't be long now! Xxxooo RTR 🦇🦇🦇 Don

    Another awesome video! My favorite is the Zman finesse frogz. I tried the lure after seeing one of your videos and they are deadly on high pressured waters.

      Thanks so much for the kind comments, ATB. I'm torn between two lovers (hahaha) after using these GToadZ. Finesse FrogZ are great fun for sure and are deadly for bass. The big advantages of these ToadZ is that they take a much larger hook, cast much farther and run true (always right side up). You can bet that I'll have both FFrogZ and GToadZ with me next time I'm topwater fishing. Have a great week, Don

    A good frog lure to use in the pea soup. Some nice bass caught.

      Thanks Wayn. Like everyone else, my frog box is full of hollow body frogs, hard leg frogs and the rest. I really like these ToadZ because they cast long distances, seemed to always land keel-down and run true, are crazy durable and don't get water logged. Add in the weedlessness and there's a very good topwater. Have a great day in the Great Republic. Don

      Thanks so much Virgillio for the kind comments. Although messy and requiring more clean up time afterwards, fishing in conditions like you saw can be exciting. Duckweed is my least favorite type of aquatic vegetation and I'm glad the wind helped blow some of it out for a while.
      Hope all's well with you and your family, Don

      Thank you, Rick. With the heat this summer (+ gas prices) and all the other honey-dos that take priority, fishing trips have been "slim pickins." Here we are entering September and there's still 90+ degree days in the forecast... yuk. This trip was a fun and relaxing break from the monotony. Also the ToadZ impressed me in this maiden voyage. Have a wonderful week, Don

    I caught some good bass on the Zoom Horny Toad, initially, though not buoyant enough to float, sometimes I would pause it at an opening to sink into the coontail, but didn't induce a strike with that method. The main problem with the Zoom offering was durability, often losing a leg after just one fish, or leg-tearing after coming into contact with structure. I soon switched to the Z Man Toadz and haven't looked back, caught many fish on same bait with nothing more than teeth marks, an amazing material, I refer to it as a "semi-solid ooze".

      Thanks for stopping by, peghead; much appreciated. I hear you on Z-Man Elaztech topwaters...of which there are many to choose from. Re-tying from time to time and accurate casting pretty much assures a long life for them on the end of the line. Suffice it to say that my collection of Spro and other brands of topwater frogs is enjoying a long hibernation. If you haven't already, you will probably enjoy the small Finesse FrogZ too. Tight lines and have a great week, Don

    Don, I have been trying to find these in any local tackle shop, and to no avail. I have even stopped at several Bass Pro shops, in the state of Iowa, but no luck. I am leaving for Canada in around eleven days, and was hoping to have several packages to use while I am there. I hope I find some soon, or I might have to wait until I get back from the trip. Good video, and enjoy the Zman products. They are great!

      Thanks, Dennis and glad you enjoyed the show. These GOAT ToadZ are excellent. I put a drop of super glue on the bend of the hook where the eye comes out the nose to hold them on better. Our "local" bass pro (35 Miles away) doesn't have a big selection of Z-man lures ether. I purchase a lot of their lures straight from the Z-man website. Sometimes Tackle Warehouse has some Elaztech stuff on sale too. Have a wonderful trip to Canada and hope you catch lots of fish. Don

      Thanks Robert appreciate your watching the show. I was already a GOAT fan and have used them as trailers on jigs, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits with lots of success. I've mainly used the Baby GOATS as a trailer on Micro Chatterbaits. I'm sure the Babies would also be good on Ned rigs. These ToadZ might wind up being more of my Faves than Finesse FrogZ. I was impressed by the weight and performance. Have a great week, Don

      Thanks Hookset; subbed you back. These GOAT ToadZ were quite impressive and a great addition to the 2022 Z-man lineup. They cast really well and the leg design (same as the tail on the Turbo FattyZ I think) have lots of action. The smaller ones have worked well for chatterbaits, spinnerbaits and swim jig trailers. Thanks again for the nice comments and have a wonderful week. Don

      That's awesome, I really appreciate that! In your opinion, whats the best hook size? Im thinking a 4/0. I thought zman was making their own hook for these, with that little lead keeper, but i can't find those.

    • @Winkiedoodles
      @Winkiedoodles  Год назад +1

      @MidWest HookSet I haven't looked recently for those "chin lock" hooks but yes, a 4/0 chin lock would definitely do the trick. If I recall, I pre-rigged the Goatz on a 4/0 Gammy EWG and put some super glue on the shank for better hold. The bass beat on the white one pretty hard and eventually it ran up the line during the fight; not a big deal. Thanks for the reminder to check on availability of those chin lockz... I tend to forget stuff like that after the fact. Don

      @MidWest HookSet oh, I just checked on the TT lures chin locks. They are on Tackle Warehouse as well as Amazon. I ordered the ones on Amazon; they are 3/0 but should be ok. They come with a belly weight but I just snip the lead off for top water lures.
      Best wishes, Don

    Hey Don. great video! How come you don't cast AND retrieve with the same hand, so you can fight your fish with your non-dominant arm....like the 'pros' do?😆

    • @Winkiedoodles
      @Winkiedoodles  2 месяца назад

      Ha, thanks, Charlie, for commenting and taking me back to this duck weed adventure. That goop was a real mess to spray out of my float tube and off my gear when I got home. The fish didn't seem to mind so it was a fun day. Actually I can cast "pro" style and learned the (to me) clumsy hand switcheroo thing first. Somewhere in the past, I saw L handled reels and loved them right off the bat. They are normally what I use these days with casting reels and have the same "rod stays in power hand" as spinning (open faced) outfits do. Have a wonderful June, Don

    I love your videos you've inspired me I've got a great idea I think you could make could make the Z man punch crawz one of their best selling Baites ever would you be interested

    • @Winkiedoodles
      @Winkiedoodles  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the nice comments; much appreciated. Honestly, I'm not a big craw fan - let me explain. I'm pretty sure that I have every type of CrawZ that Z-man makes...and I'm sure they are good. However, the environs I fish (usually 50 +/- miles from Jefferson City) are mostly small impoundments like private or public (conservation areas) ponds. After fishing these waters many, many times the lure patterns the fish prefer do not favor craws but rather others. For bass, things like topwaters, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swimbaits, worms and various finesse baits work the best. With limited time and resources (i.e gas $$$) I usually use the lures I have found the most effective for each body of water. Best wishes, Don
