  • This short video shows the weird, bottom-resting fish called a "sand diver," part of the lizardfish family and common to these waters. Sometimes they bury themselves in the sand up to their heads and sometimes they will sit on top of coral heads. (I've only seen them on the sand, as in the video.) Regardless, they are "ambush predators," remaining still until an unwary little fish or even squid happen by. They have a big mouth full of teeth for a small fish but they appear to be half fish and half lizard (interesting evolutionary period they're in).
