I get the feeling that many watch enthusiasts have turned their back on Rolex when Rolex turned their back on them. They also may have suffered reputational loss through the selling to flippers, dodgy dealers and muggers in the last few years to the detriment of a once loyal clientele. They do make great watches so I hope that they won't suffer the same fate as Burberry when they got dragged down through association with the wrong sort. Other brands should take note.
@16:05. The Explorer line up (especially 2) will become a Daytona hard to get model in the future and IMHO as it stands is the only SS sports watch model that maintains the original Rolex DNA - a classy formal yet no bling/flashy tool watch heritage.
@7:20. Looks and beauty are subjective at this level of wrist instrument artistry but the two things that cannot be debated with regards to the Daytona vs Speedy topic is dial legibility and iconic status. The Speedmaster wins on both by a margin.
My two cents on the black dial GMT. I think a lot of collectors were excited to see an iteration of the black dial GMT make a comeback. It is my hope that as the years go on it will be a good entry level dial color into the GMT line. As far as stealth wealth, you can spot a rolex on a wrist from 10 yards away. I know Europe has had issues with watch theft, well robbery in general, so maybe it's not safe to be walking around London with a pepsi or batman dial. Very flashy! Cheers and have a lovely Christmas
@26:49. Imagine if Rolex brings back the 1655 Explorer 2, redefine it (without changing its DNA) and name it the Reinhold Messner model. Now that will be a hit.
I don't think Rolex has ever been about the enthusiasts market. Its market share and brand awareness means it is clearly aimed at the muggle, who does well and wants to mark the occasion, bonus etc. They are not collectors or enthusiasts. That's why Rolex does well. The fact that they are conservative, and all very similar looking, makes it easy to navigate the range.
Rolex is all about incremental changes. I think they'd obtain greater favor with the watch enthusiasts if they slimmed down the cases and moved away from the maxi dials/hands. This incremental change would be in line with current trends towards more slimmed down watches. Edit: also, Rolex would create an absolute tsunami if they released a 1908 perpetual calendar, which would be the first perpetual calendar in Rolex's history. Just sayin..........😉
That’s so strange, given that many folks I know are asking for smaller watches and manufacturers are making smaller watches in response. Hamilton Murph is just one example. As for “literally no one else”, I’m somebody and I’m wearing smaller watches. So your statement is incorrect. Cheers!
I disagree with this. The trend for oversized watches is relatively new. The traditional size was always around 36. The oversized watch trend is coming to an end and there will be a return to normality.

Good discussion and excellent audio 😉
Thank you, sir! 🙌
This was great! I’m really enjoying the content you guys are putting out, especially when there are no audio issues.

Love those as metrics!
Waiting for a Cartier NSO for 1-2 years is definitely more acceptable than waiting for an off the shelf watch for over 3.

Love it, thanks for watching and thinking!

Stop talking about watches as " Investments" , a) because they are no such thing, as we now know, and b) the FCA/SEC will be all over you.
👋
Tell me the AD where you have to wait for only one month for a sub 😅
I would prefer to buy a Cuervo Y Sobrinos over a Rolex. Rolex seem to have become so passé of late.

Will be interesting to see how they do with dress watches in general, or whether people just think that’s not really Rolex!
This "trend for smaller watches" is just in the minds of RUclipsrs and their enthusiast friends. Literally no-one else is wearing small watches.

I find myself wearing both larger watches and smaller watches. Have you really researched the market to validate your statement?

Erm I wear watches between 30 to 35mm.....

What a load of utter gibberish
