  • Lesser Sandhill Cranes nest in Homer, Alaska in the spring, and now, as migration approaches mid-September, cranes have begun using Beluga Slough in increasing numbers as an evening roosting area. Watch the show from the boardwalk beginning at 8 pm till about 9 pm. No guarantees though as they do change roost sites. August 28, 2016. A side note: the areas of Beluga Slough that are below Mean High Tide are also part of Kachemak Bay Critical Habitat Area.
