@@heimlershistory im sorry to say this but you didn't define communism correctly. what you've said in the video is Socialism, and your explanation of theoretical communism set forth by karl marx made your explanation even worse
@@heimlershistory i hope next time you can contain your biases to yourself and not use World History as a tool to introduce them to other people. your mentioning of the second man on space (who's american), is quite irrelevant. you didn't even mention the first woman in space or the first animal in space (which were both sent by russians)
@@hetaeramancer how is the mentioning of the second man in space irelavent if he is showing both the soviet union and the united states achievements in space. plus if ur just gonna complain make your own videos or something like omfg
The best thing you can do is take a couple practice exams and keep to the time limits. That’ll show you where you need to increase the pace. By far the best thing you can do is to REALLY know the content. That way you’re not wasting time searching your brain for the answers…
Honestly, the way I’ve interpret it from the readings, communism wasn’t that bad. Every bad thing with the Soviet Union, from what I’ve observed, was Joseph Stalin. Just my interpretation though. When reading unit 8 I was just confused as to why the US was s o u p s e t over communism spreading. It seems to me that Stalin forced communism on other countries just because of the containment act because that posed as a threat to his power. The Soviet Union seemed to do just fine under Lenin. Communism seems to be so taboo because of Animal Farm, which is just George Orwell’s opinion on communism, and Animal Farm is an extremely bias account of communism. Orwell hated communists and snitched communists out to the government. Animal Farm is extreme anti-communist propaganda. And going back to what I said about every bad thing about the Soviet Union was Joseph Stalin, not communism, Orwell only satirizes the Soviet Union under Stalin. Also just to clarify, I don’t think it’s bad that Animal Farm is bias or that it’s George Orwell’s opinion of what happened with the Soviet Union. My whole comment is bias. People just have different opinions than one another. However, it’s not really fair to base your own opinion by only looking at one side of the story. You’re free to do so, but I feel like by doing that you’re limiting your worldview. I also want to clarify that I don’t think communism was the greatest thing ever. It’s a good idea, it’s rooted in equality and benefiting the people, but it’s not perfect, but neither is capitalism. Capitalism is a good idea at it’s core, but just living in the US and seeing homeless tents everywhere I go makes me think otherwise (among other reasons). Gee I sure wish there was a way to live where we combine the two so that it works ~socialism~ Edit: I’m sorry that this comment is so long I got really carried away and I think now it’s fair to say I shouldn’t comment anything on RUclips until I take my adderall and I have learned my lesson
Exactly, however, I would use Islamic Communism as it is another way to combine the best of both, and it aligns with my religion, but you aren't giving enough credit to communism given that it managed to pull a backwater country to the forefront of the world in a few decades while every card was stacked against it. Love socialism though too.

here are my notes from the AMSCO and this video, may your AP test go well this year
8.2: The Cold War
Iron curtain: the split between Eastern and Western Europe
Differences between the US and the Soviet Union that caused tension
US
Capitalism
capitalist goods (goods that make other goods) owned privately
Economic decisions made by private interests
Democracy
Free elections and independent press
Role of women
Women were not as equal
The soviets were mocked for not giving their people freedom
Soviets
Communism
Economic assets owned by government
Emphasized equality and fairness
Authoritarianism
Elections operated by government
Role of women
Women were made equal
The soviets said that the US gave their people the “freedom to starve
Both countries constantly want to expand, leading to conflicts because both want to remake the world in their image
Conducting the Cold War
Soviet satellite countries (also called the Soviet Bloc)
Bulgaria
East Germany
Hungary
Poland
Romania
These countries developed 5yr economic plans that developed industries and collective agriculture, outlawing any other political parties than the communists
Allowed the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics)
Containment: contain communism due to its spread during anti-capitalist revolts
Marshall Plan
US attempt to take Western Europe in its image by offering 12 billion dollars to help the Western European economies
Rationale was that it would prevent a shift into communism because economy was fine, surprisingly worked
Truman Doctrine
A speech from President Truman in 1947 outlining how they would stop communist influence
promised military aid to any country that was being threatened by the spread of communism
Looked specifically at Turkey and Greece
Soviets wanted to put a military base in Turkey and communist groups were close to taking over the government in Greece
Arms Race
Bombs
Even more powerful nuclear bomb (Russia, 1947)
hydrogen bombs (both powers, 1950’s)
Intercontinental ballistic missile (Russia, 1959): capable of delivering a nuclear warhead into US territory
However they never fired at each other because they both realized they had hit a point of mutual assured destruction meaning that no matter who started the war, both would be obliterated by the end of it
Functioned on a balance of terror, assured by the fact that both countries can and will keep advancing
Space Race
Started in 1957 when Russia launched Sputnik, the first artificial satellite into orbit, followed by the US in January of 1958
The competition came to be who could launch the first armed satellite, and then who would be the first to land a man on the moon
Non-Aligned movement: African and Asian nations wanted to enjoy their freedom and stay far away from the conflict
Established during the Bandung conference organized between China, India and 27 other countries to keep the African and Asian universities away from the Cold War
Wanted an alternate framework for international economic political and social order
Passed resolutions condemning colonialism
