The R8 and R18 both raced at Le Mans 6 years, 2000-2005 and 2011-2016. However the R8 was basically the same all 6 years while the R18 changed so much I think the last gen R18 is a completely different car from the 2011 one.
This is certainly not my favorite car in the Gr.1 category, but according to my calculations using this car against all other hybrids and diesels, this thing is a killer on the road in terms of competition, specially in Nurburgring track.
Trying this car out myself, I immediately noticed a difference. This one seemed abit more raw and really close to its real life counterpart whereas the 2011 one just sounds abit like the generic effect every other sim uses for diesel LMP1 cars.
This R18's best asset is its fuel economy. I did a custom, fuel consumption race - 3x fuel consumption 15 laps - and with Fuel Map only set at 1, this car will run out of juice AFTER 11 or 12 LAPS depending on the track.
Even tho acel is 8.0 it's slow i recommend to lower rear and front downforce and it's interiors has a problem shift lights are so bright that is gonna block your view a bit witch can be saw on other lmp1 cars so if you hate shift lights blocking your view a bit get a group c
Think the problem is the fact that boost is off and you can lower the brightnes for the shift lights this is why group c some vgts and the 2011 audi r18 are ones that i recommend and avoid any hybrid like black death

Imo the 2011 r18 is wayyyy to op if ur in a newer lmp car theres no chance. This one is a better realistic racing option if you want good racing and not 1 car leading by 40 seconds
All of the recent audi r18s being called the same thing is slightly misleading. Because Renault hold the trademark for r20 to r35 audio decided to just stop at r18. Só despite the fact that in 2014 the r18 got a quite substantial upgrade and again in 2015 and then again in 2016 (basically 3 completely different cars) they are all called r18

Get the 919 its like 2 seconds a lap quicker. I cannot keep up with the 919 when i am in this. I am a Bdr and Ssr player and being beaten by cdr and asr players in 919's. If you dont have the 919 you are screwed.
The car sounds like a regular V6 and not the turbo diesel in V6 configuration that is in it in real life. I'm not expecting perfection but ugh I can't get past the sound

Not surprising given the advancement of diesel racing tech each year, but good to know. :)

It isn't. Its a part-time AWD hybrid, same as the 919 and TS050
the only thing this car has going for me is the sound. performance wise, yeah the LM55 and Alpine VGT easily dust the poor diesel racer

I got it as a Prize as well. Same thing happened with the Porsche 919.

This car is good, but I do prefer the older R18 over the new one.
My first car was the 919 (LMP1 anyway) and I sold it because I got another lmp1 as a gift. I now regret it because now I know it’s a good car ;_;
