    This was the first CD I have purchased in about 20 years. After listening to it the past couple days, almost on a loop, I can why it makes just about every list of must own audiophile CDs.
    This is a must own, if you want to truly test your system’s capabilities!

    Website - OfferUp
    Where I Purchased - Met up with a nice local guy.
    Listed Price - $160
    Price Paid - $140
    Condition -90% (not counted in the Average Guy Hi-Fi score)
    Some normal wear but in near perfect condition overall. Great shape, the previous owner took very good care of these speakers.
    Quality - 8.5
    Love the build quality of these compact speakers! The veneer is too-notch, the binding posts are high quality along with the woofer and tweeter.
    These are very well engineered speakers, that’s apparent from the first time you grab them.
    Sound - 8.5
    These are very well rounded speakers. I wouldn’t say that they are world beaters at a single category but the bass extends nice and low, the highs are crisp and detailed and they have nice punch.
    MSRP Rating - 7.0
    These were still a great value when they came out but the competition is pretty steep at $700 pair. Brands like Aperion Audio, Bowers & Wilkins and Klipsch has some serious contenders in this price range. Still a very good score though!
    Aesthetics - 7.5
    These are great looking speakers, no doubt about it. With the grills off, they are a little flashy but with the grills on, they will blend into most decor beautifully.
    If you follow this channel, you will know that I love white woofer speakers and these are no exception.
    Price Paid Value - 9.0
    At $140, it’s going to be hard to beat this deal on name brand speakers, like Monitor Audio. These are the types of speakers that will give you years of enjoyment, especially if you know that you only paid speaker stand money for them:)
    Average Guy HiFi Rating - 40.1/50 = 81%
    Final Thoughts -
    Monitor Audio never ceases to amaze me with their high quality, beautiful sound and affordable prices.
    I think these smaller bookshelf speakers just might surprise you!

    I discovered your channel through Joe and Iove it man! Keep doing what you do and will always support ya! An idea, for maybe some future video, if you can show us your process on finding these insane deals. What sites you browse, what are you looking for, what determines a good deal for you, etc. Just document it and it would be awesome to see your thought process behind it!

      I’m happy to hear Joe is helping spread the word! I did a little video, providing some tips for picking up used audio gear but it was early on so I was pretty nervous. Nobody really saw those videos, since they were so early on.
      I’ll be sure to turn and incorporate some tips I’ve learned over the years. Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it!
      Happy weekend, my friend!

      Now days, local subscribers usually reach out to me when a video gets posted, and wants to buy the gear. At least, that’s the way the really good deals end up selling.
      Otherwise, I create ads on CL, OfferUp and FB Marketplace and sell it the old fashioned way. Haha

      @@blazermdx Great. I am far away. However there is a model you could consider in the future. There is a quite viewed YT channel that does a monthly blind auction of those products reviewed. Off course a sub or speakers are difficult/costly to ship, but you could charge for shipping also you can place a reserve. Anyway, it could easily be a way to get funds for more reviews. Cheers

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  4 года назад +2

      Hello Joey! Unfortunately, I haven’t owned any AV123 speakers but I’ve always read great things about their speakers. I think the subwoofer plate amplifier fiasco ended up to the the downfall of the company.
      With that said, that sounds like a smokin’ deal on those speakers. If it’s not too late and they are fully functional, go for it!
      What would you be replacing, if you end up with these AV123 speakers?

    How Do these differ from the Monitor Audio bronze br1?

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  3 года назад +2

      I haven’t had a chance to compare them side by side, unfortunately.
      The biggest difference, that stands out to me is the quality of the components and the cabinet. The Silver line is definitely a step up but if my memory serves me correctly, the sound difference was pretty minor. Again, there was a gap between me owning both so it’s a little hard to comment on the difference in sound accurately.
      Do you own Monitor Audio speakers?
      Thanks for stopping by, I truly appreciate it!

    Did you bi wire these? If not give that a try. Way better sound

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  4 года назад

      I did try but-wiring these briefly but I didn’t notice a large bump in performance, but my room and listening habits are much easier to energize than most out there.
      In the sound demos, in probably just going to run the speakers on one channel of amplifier, as I imagine most folks out there just setup their systems this way.
      With that said, I have gotten great results with bi-wiring speakers over the years, it can make a noticeable improvement, especially at higher volumes.
      Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment, my friend!

    Great video! Since you asked, I do have a few suggestions, but please don't take it as anything you're doing being negative 😎
    First, for this video it would have been nice to describe how the speakers sound a little more. Are they warm, bright, what they do well, what could be better, etc. I feel like you've done so on previous reviews.
    Second, would be awesome to see how all of these speakers are stacking up against each other. Maybe you could track scores in Excel and flash on screen towards end of videos? Probably would need to categorize by speaker type as well (e.g. bookshelf, tower, etc.). Basically, some sort of scoreboard.
    I definitely like how you include a comparison to other speakers; in this case your new klipsch set. Helps give a good baseline for comparison.
    All that said, I know it's hard to keep videos short too, assuming that's your goal.

    • @blazermdx
      @blazermdx  4 года назад +1

      That’s exactly the type of feedback I was looking for! Thank you for taking the time to type that all out.
      I’ve been thinking that I should spend a little more time describing the sound and that confirms it. I’m trying to keep the videos around 10 minutes but that usually doesn’t work out. I will see where I can shave some time, so I can go into the sound characteristics a little more.
      Already working on the spreadsheet. I’ve been compiling all my notes, so I have them down the road. I’m just trying to figure out how to implement the info I’m a way that doesn’t confuse people, especially the beginners.
      Thank you again for the feedback, I truly appreciate it!

      Nope, no sub used. The REL sub in the bottom right corner, in the demo, wasn’t on. I also left the foam port plugs in.
      These speakers put out a nice amount of bass, for their size!

      You would never catch me driving around listening to Daft Punk but I definitely respect their talents. I just think this CD does the best job showing off a speakers dynamic range.

      This CD really tests out frequency response, which is why I use it regularly. This isn’t my style of music either but I want people to hear as much as the speakers as possible.
