It’s a true honor to be interviewed by such a young and accomplished calisthenics master. From early on, I recognized potential in only a few, and you were one of those rare individuals who stood out with remarkable promise at a very young age. I appreciate you taking the time to reflect on the golden era of calisthenics and the journey of those who became the seasoned masters of today. Continue your vital work, teaching the youth with precision and integrity, and inspiring future generations with the Barbarian blueprint-a legacy of strength, discipline, and excellence. 👐🏽💯🅱️🅱️4LIFE
I remember seeing bar-barians in like 2011/2012 i was like 15-16. I remember you, littlebeastm, ironloo and others there, took me a minute years ago to realise you were the same Daniel from there when I found this channel and subscribed. Also Zef,Jude as like the original members was great to see the the group videos. I know there's more been too long I can't remember but it was good seeing you having Zef here. Have fond memories of that time.
Zeff is huge inspiration. Eventhou I know him just through videos, I can almost feel how much he enjoys working out and loves even pain those exhausting workouts bring to him
Finally!!! Been waiting for this one for ages! Been following Zef for years, he’s a legend in the calisthenics space and someone who has inspired me, not just performance wise but also longevity wise. Few have been doing it for decades and still at it close to 50yo
He should consider having Maxim from "Gymnastics based training for all ages". His channel is new I know so maybe in a few months. At some point I believe we need someone with high level gymnastics background, especially to talk about the humongous gap between calisthenics and gymnastics
It's about damn time you went Barbarian, it's good to see the legend Zef Zakaveli, founder of the Barbarians. That man is a pure natural beast. He inspired everybody....
Wow u got the MAN. This man is one of my original inspirations right along with HFK and Giant from bartendaz. The 3 kings of calisthenics. Can't forget HIT Richards either, the 4th king.
Amazing Podcast. Was glued to the screen whole time. Much respect to Zef!!, what a humble guy. Motivational, gold standard knowledge & passion, sensible approach for long term training. You definitely motivated me to pick my “poison” & train sensibly. Thanks Daniel for this Podcast & picking the brain of this amazing, humble, veteran Barbarian. Much respect to you both.
I started doing calisthenics and street fitess when i was 12 with the bois from the neighbourhood watching Zef and other members of the BarBarians squad so inspirational the impact of Zef on the whole movement be blessd!
Wow! You came to NYC! Normally I don't comment but seeing you with the bridge as a backdrop just made me really want to reach out. Back in 2011 I emailed you through RUclips seeking fitness advice. I was overweight, desperate and very poor. It's been 14 years and since then I may not have mastered the amazing skills you have, but that plan you gave me and your kindness really motivated me. Just wanted to say thank you and I'm sorry I didn't email you back when you were awaiting a brighter response. I'm much fitter than I've ever been, and I attribute most of not all my gains to your videos and programs. I've purchased a few programs and have been a huge fan. I will never forget how you went out of your way to help me at one of my lowest points in life. I'm now 35 years old and still working on skills and handstands and enjoying the content you create and inspire with Thank you thank you thank you
Zef is a living legend, very inspirational guy with his attitude, philosophy of training, inspiring others and dedicating for his craft for years, he definitely changed life of thousands of people, thanks for being a fitness role model for many many people.
Great podcast. I started calisthenics at 41 and in better shape than my 20s for sure! I was lifting weight back then for maybe about 4 years, but i wasn't consistent and couldn't gain weight past 155 lbs. 20 years later I went from 140 to 160 lbs now at age 43 and I have pull ups, dips, push ups, rows, pike push ups, muscle ups to thank.
This is great🙏 i've been following Zef and BB since 2010, since then i've also tried weighted calis, freestyle, statics etc, but always found my self back to the basics and BB style of training, always kept me in above average physical condition, now as a 35yo with two kids sometimes life gets ectic, so i do a 5MD, if i have more time i go for Higher reps/volume and different routines, the amount of routines BB have i their portfolio is just astonishing, most people dont know that, i have a note book with 100's of BB routines and variations that will challenge me for a life time, and tbh a great deal of them are just Impossible to complete for most people. Shoot out to Daniel and Zef and the all BB and calisthenics community.
Yesss, i like to see different perspectives of different people that do different types of calisthenics, weighted, skills, endurance/super high reps/sets and reps, i enjoy all of this. Great interview
bro i remember soooo many years ago getting into working out and at that time, naturaly came across guys like hannibal and zef, beastmode etc....good and simpler times
Definitely one of the OGs that’s motivated me to chase gains on calisthenics. How big are Zef’s arms? I notice he prefers overhand pull-ups over chin ups.
This is the interview we've all been waiting for! 🔥 Would like to see more calisthenics athletes from Team Barbarians on the podcast like Irving Felix John dudes a tank!
I am 67 and stay away from muscle ups. Too much shoulder stress. But I presently have PRs of 38 pull-ups and 46 chin-ups. I also do many variations of pushups (floor pushups to wall handstand pushups) and tricep extensions. Dips are hard on my shoulders so I replaced them with the tricep extensions.
Strength, power, endurance,. Longevity. Zef's calisthenic exploits is legendary. He is the blueprint that shaped the likes of Sergio D. As CT Fletcher once famously said "somebody got to be the baddest Zef (in my opinion) Is the best.... Ever! 🅱️🅱️💪
I gotta say though, to hear anyone claim that a person should be able to do more dips than pushups is kind of crazy. Doesnt make sense. Pretty sure no one would disagree with me on this.
So with in 5 minutes you have to do 5 muscle ups 50 dips 30 pull up 60 push ups 5 muscle ups Is this the current BBR And does this mean you got to do them with out with out stopping Is this what he means by unbroken Who can do this I could not imagine doing 50 dips mind you I do them on rings
The difference is the objective. High reps at any certain level of intensity are in themselves a goal (endurance). The same volume may become "junk" when the goal is increasing max strength or hypertrophy, because you're doing the exercise at too low of an intensity, therefore you would be able to do more reps until failure, but fail to gain strength or muscle size. When we say to stay in a certain rep range for a certain goal, that means adjust the intensity so that you can only to so many reps before failure.
@@buianhquan2722 Understandable. I train more endurance than pure strength. He also said when he was young he would train 7 days a week? I missed that part. I’m 26 and did a lot of calisthenics and got some bad wrist injureies and elbow from doing a lot lot
@jamesmartini8639 my work has a very high level of wrist and elbow problems, stretching consistently is the best way to combat this. I stretch 15min before I do anything. Longer if I have time. Stay safe
Old barbarians is where I gathered my first calisthenics information. There were a lot of videos on youtube but mostly raw training or freestyles and those were the source of inspiration. Too bad it closed shortly after in 2012 I think.
Bro is this split good Monday weighted push Tuesday weighted pull wednesday leg day Thrusday core Friday full body calisthenics Saturday cardio Sunday rest
Yes or you could do a bit of core after each session and just do Monday- push Tuesday- pull Wednesday-legs Thursday- push Friday-pull Saturday-legs Sunday- rest REPEAT So you can target each muscle group 2 times a weak
I wonder about the Barbarians' early requirements, though. I mean, 10 minutes for all of those things is quite attainable, safe for the muscle ups, if doing it the way they notoriously do things, with ridiculously short rom and really fast. Zef can talk about full rom and control all day, but the videos are there for everyone to see. It's one thing to do things like that, it's another to actually do things with full rom and slow. Evidently, fast reps have other purposes, as does short rom, but looking at some of those things, I don't understand how some of those reps can even count for an actual workout. The only way I see this making sense is from a performance point of view, as in: you have the basis of an actual real training program that you perform as it should be (full rom, slow reps), and are now just showing off what that basis can do from a performance and endurance level. But still, it'll always be odd to me that 50 fast push-ups are impressive, as opposed to 20 well made ones. More often than not, the person doing 50 fast ones can't do 20 slow ones.

Legend
After 30 years of lifting, I started calisthenics at 45 and am in better shape now than ever. Thank you for helping me to discover my potential.
Finally, I've been waiting for this. The next hour will be spent productively.
excuse me if this sounds rude. but who are you? how come you have got 110k followers with only a few videos with little views? I am just curious.
Zef and the dudes from Wingate inspired me to jump on the bar when I was overweight and couldn't do one pullup years ago, shouts to the legend 🫡

You should consider having K Boges
Yes please!!
He should consider having Maxim from "Gymnastics based training for all ages". His channel is new I know so maybe in a few months. At some point I believe we need someone with high level gymnastics background, especially to talk about the humongous gap between calisthenics and gymnastics
Yes, I, and a lot of people would absolutely love to see a 1 hour podcast with Kboges, they both offer an interesting point of view.
